I first experienced the Everglades about 20 years ago. I did the typical thing, pulled into the first place I found, jumped on a packed boat with about 20 people, and 30 minutes later we were back at the dock. It was a memorable time no doubt. But I don't remember the name of the place or the people who took us out. Fast forward to now, I'm back on a family trip with another couple and we have 4 teenage kids. This time I was looking for something a little more unique. I wanted to experience the everglades, not just see them. I spoke to a handful of places and nothing really flt. I was about to give up and after over looking Mack's Fish Camp initially I decided to call. Immediately my conversation with Marshall was much more personal than the previous outfits. He mentioned he was the 4th generation owner and his enthusiasm shined as he spoke. He highly recommended we take the sunset trip and although it was pretty much the exact opposite of my plan I felt I needed to listen. I didn't feel like a number anymore, I felt like this dude I was talking to lived in the Everglades and wanted to show me his stomping grounds. I could feel the passion and I knew he was the exact person that I wanted for the trip. As we arrived at the entrance we turned onto a two mile dirt road, my wife and the kids became a bit skeptical, but I knew as we entered the foot of the camp this trip was gonna be badass. We were greeted by his wife and Pumba the pig. We took some pictures with all the killer swamp buggies sitting around and hung out on the dock while we waited for him to get the boat ready. He showed us a camp in the middle of the everglades which apparently was at one point an old Indian reservation, took us fishing, educated us, told us stories and we saw plenty of gators. Put it this way, we had 2 girls, 16 and 17 years old, who are not outdoor enthusiast... and they absolutely loved the trip. Marshall simply turned out to be an awesome person to meet, we felt like we made a new friend. I know it seems like the name doesn't quite fit the bill when your searching for a fan boat ride but do yourself a favor, don't over look Mack's Fish Camp. I had my niece in from Washington DC and I wanted her to experience the Everglades in a different way than I had done previously. I'm a local and have toured the Everglades on three separate occasions. I have had one good experience and two lousy ones. The last time I went I ended up on a boat with 10 other people. It felt like I was on an amusement park ride. I decided I would never do that again. Boring and too commercial for my taste. I found Mack's Fish Camp online and read probably 50 reviews. I was was curious to know what set this place apart and, admittedly, a bit skeptical about the price. Nevertheless, I headed out there and when I say out there I'm not kidding. It's close to home but my GPS couldn't find it. (Use Waze and not Google maps) As soon as I arrived at the end of the gravel road I knew I was in for the real deal. Friendly dogs came up to me on the dock near the office and barked at the alligators floating in the canal. Cats were lazing in the sun. Crazy Mad Max type vehicles were parked alongside the dock. I thought, this place is cool! Marshall, the owner, was coming back from an earlier tour with a woman from Indiana who had been there eight times previously. She had a few family members with her. They all seemed happy and excited about their experience. About 20 minutes later Michele and I were on the water in an awesome airboat fit for four people. The power of the engine and the wide openness and beauty of the Everglades was exhilarating. The rain clouds were far in the distance and Michele and I settled in for the ride. For the next two hours we began to learn a little bit about everything going on in the glades from the smallest of plant life to the large alpha alligators that were enjoying the young breeding season. Marshall not only has knowledge and passion for what he does but a profound respect for his surroundings. It's infectious and addicting. He even let me co-pilot the boat. What a rush. Sorry for the long review but I can't help but think about the next time I'm going to head out there. All in all I only have great things to say about my experience and I highly recommend making the trip out to Mack's. Get ready for a unique and wonderful ride! read more

If you are looking for a real Everglades experience this is the place. We called around to many airboat tours and Mack's was the only place that suggested that we not go due to weather being bad and animals would not be out. I appreciated their honesty and not just trying to make a buck off of a tourist family. The entrance to Mack's fish camp is not exactly what you expect from a tourist attraction but if you want an authentic experience it is a real working fish camp. We were met by several dogs and a pig but as soon as we got out of the car my kids were all over them and having a ball. We were greeted by Marshall who runs the camp and also was our guide and probably one of the best tour guides I have ever ran into. He took us on a long boat ride that was over an hour which he did not charge me extra for. We saw many gators right off the bat as well as birds and fish and Marshall was a wealth of knowledge about the Everglades and the flora and fauna in the area. The boat ride was better than expected we went slow to look at things of interest but we also went quite fast to get from place to place as well as just have fun. When we got back to the camp there was a nice picnic area and the kids got to go fishing off the dock with GATORS right there(They were not aggressive and amazing to watch swimming and sun bathing). I recently visited Mack's Fish Camp for a sunset airboat tour. Upon our arrival my family and I we were greeted by Marshall Jones and his wife Nicole Jones the owners of Mack's Fish Camp. We were welcomed with a professional attire smiles from ear-to-ear Pleasant atmosphere and very professional, and of course a view that only Mack's Fish Camp has. Marshall was our tour guide for our Sunset airboat tour he is extremely knowledgeable about the Everglades in gladesmen culture Marshall was able to show us the most wonderful Everglades experience you could ever want to have. From alligators two trees plants when the water side when the water is low where he goes fishing and where he educates his children and family about the Everglades, he is extremely professional loves to tell jokes but keeps it fun and professional I recommend anyone who's traveling to the Everglades and wants an Everglades true experience for family business trip or just some relaxation and some knowledge about the Everglades culture you have to get to Mack's Fish Camp we will definitely be back for more fun and relaxation. Wow!! Absolutely amazing. It was a total impromptu decision to go air boat riding. We were quite literally trying to decide what to do at 5pm on a Friday afternoon and randomly decided to go on an adventure. What an incredible ride. Marshall and his wife were extraordinarily kind. My 2 year old son was enamoured with Marshall's wife. Marshall even found a way to put my 6 year old at ease when it looked as if she was too scared to ride. It's obvious that Marshall carries a true passion for the preservation of the Everglades. He provided us with a plethora of information and facts that spanned from teaching us about native plants to the history of its past human inhabitants (which of course this History teacher ate up). I am a Miami resident who spend alot of time entertaining guests and this place makes my job easy! By far the best air boat ride and eco tour available. Marshall and his staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and have great attention to the details. The bass fishing is fantastic and they will provide you with everything you need or you can use your own gear. There is also no need to worry about what kind of presentation to use, they will tell you what is working and what isn't. You will see lots of alligators, in fact sometimes they will affect where you can cast, and where you can't. A great place to take your family! Wow all I can say is WOW! After reading the reviews we decided to go to Mack's Fish Camp for an airboat tour because we were looking for a more authentic experience and not just your every day 'big box store' type commercialized one. We took our chances and showed up without a reservation and was unable to get a tour at that time but after meeting Mack and his wife we decided to come back the next day. We are so glad we did. It was one of the best experiences we have ever had. Marshal was a wonderful guide and made our experience so personalized and authentic. A few weeks ago i spent four-five days at Mack's fish camp, and i loved every minute of it. My dad, and i came down from georgia with a camper, and an airboat. While we were at the camp, every body treated us just as nicely as they could, and they have a boat ramp they let us use. We jumped the levy, and it was some of the best airboat riding we've ever done. I found mack's fish camp to be the perfect mixture of good buisness, and good old southern hospitality. Between my dad, and i, neither of us wanted to leave. My dad said he almost teared up telling everybody bye. I can't wait for my next opertunity to go see Mack's fish camp. read more

My boyfriend and I booked an airboat ride with Marshal while we were vacationing in Miami. We wanted desperately to explore the Everglades in an authentic way. Man did this not disappoint!! Best experience of our trip!! It isn't touristy at all, it's about as authentic as you can get. Marshal knows his stuff and is just a wonderful tour guide. We saw all kinds of wildlife but I think the baby alligators we spent time with were our favorite part. We plan to come back in the future! We can't sing their praises enough. If you ever want the Air Boat trip of a lifetime, Mack's Fish Camp is the place to go. A hidden gem for sure. Take a step back in time and travel through the grasses where you're engulfed in a sea of cat tails, birds and alligators. Marshall, our tour guide and owner was knowledgeable and extremely hands on with our family. We went near the end of the day and watched the sunset over the marshes. We came from Texas and we were trying to have an experience like my husband had in his teens in untouched Florida. Man, this is the real deal, don't waste your time on those other air boat rides done the road. These people are just ordinary people (like me) and this is what makes it so special. My wife and I with our two sons had a great time on the everglades tour. We were presented with great hosts and enjoyed every aspect of our adventure.
