The girls who served us (including Emily who settled our bill) were absolutely lovely, they even apologised for our service profusely and how long we were waiting, as for the manager no words can describe his lack of accountability or even acknowledgement of our poor service. We arrived at 1245, served at the bar brilliantly and were shown to our table with no issues. At 1305 we ordered our starters and mains. Starters arrived at 1350, no check back on our table if the starters were okay. Mains arrived at 1500 (2 hours after we arrived) I ordered the swordfish and it was completely raw. When we arrived we were sat on Table 45 and the table directly behind us Table 40 was undergoing a deep clean and the staff were not quiet and I came to understand that there was a persons sick covered over the table and the window behind us, now I understand why, raw food served up to customers making them sick. I was just lucky that I sent it back. My swordfish was served at 1500 sent back at 1502 and came back at 1510 (god knows how so quickly considering it took nearly 2 hours to come out initially and it wasn't even that busy, literally 15 tables at a push). I managed to get the managers attention before our mains were served, he stated we were the next table coming out of the kitchen to which I explained our waitress (who was genuinely lovely) explained we were the next table to come out 20 mins prior and we'd witnessed 2 other tables of 6's food come out. The manager was so rude and stated because we ordered 3x starters that's why our order was put behind the others. No apology was given he simply walked away after stating we were definitely next. You best believe it.. we were not next. Desserts taken at 1515 when we helped ourselves to the dessert menus, (we were starving so ate the mediocre cold food within minutes). And we left at 1545 when still nothing and no show of anything. We paid £145 for a terrible meal, terrible service, cold and raw food. We left 3.5 hours after we arrived, the manager rolled his eyes when asked the waitress for the bill before our desserts were served as she told him we were paying and leaving. I'm glad I looked at him when she told him because I wouldn't have seen him look at me and roll his eyes. I could have gotten better frozen food from Sainsbury's at 1/5th of the price but we all know we don't eat out for the food all the time we come for the service and yet I've still paid £145 for a god awful service. The girls who served us, it was not their fault and they are a credit to your chain but the manager, well.. is he just a miserable old man waiting for his pension, I think so.. I appreciate restaurants have bad days but rudeness and basic customer service skills from a manager is really not asking for a lot when I've parted with £145 with no apology.

It had wooden tables, sometimes covered with red-checkered table clothes. Each setting had a candle and it was fairly quaint. As a Canadian who wanted to leave the crowds of London it was perfect. Paired with an awesome guy, the entire evening was incredibly romantic. The service was prompt, friendly, and quite attentive. The highlight of the evening was our glass of wine and their Rockerfeller (sp?) oysters cooked with cheese. Best oysters I've ever had, hands down. I ordered the crab, and my date had the local sea bass. The fish was cooked properly and was quite fresh. It's quite a large fish, so you better be dedicated to flavour of fish and only three baby potatoes when you order it. Because ultimately it was quite simply marinated. The crab was done... differently. I don't know if it's a British style of cooking crab, but to eat the crab cold felt like I had lost some of its flavour. Another reviewer said that creamy roe was placed in the shell, I'm not sure if that's what it was, but it was pretty plain. In fact both of our dishes were fairly plain. Ultimately I think you should come here for oysters and fresh food, but I'm not so sure the prices were completely fair. But you can chalk that up to my igloo-maple ways!

But once inside, you don't need to look out of the windows. There are bamboo screens and an indoor water feature and it all feels Japanesey enough without intimidating a newbie. The maitre d' lady is great fun, very smiley and keen to assist in any way. We always have a lovely chat - even if we don't quite understand each other! (The staff are all Asian but I couldn't put money on them all being Japanese) There is a conveyor belt with all the beautiful and freshly made sushi on coded plates, with a menu decoder alongside. The offer is 5 plates for £10 or 10 plates for £17.50 with a limit of one yellow (most expensive) plate. Or you can just pay for each plate individually. The main menu is also very wide-ranging with a lot of traditional Japanese fodder: ramen, miso, tempura etc. as well as Thai offerings (the restaurant is owned by a company which has a Thai restaurant in Canterbury and one in Thanet somewhere). The tom yum soup is gorgeously spicy with juicy fat prawns and just the right amount of lemongrass infusing the coconutty base. The specials are most definitely worth a look. I managed to have the bento-type platter with beautifully roasted duck, plum sauce, lovely light sticky rice...twice in as many weeks. Oh man it was good. Yoshi is more personal than Yo!Sushi, with the friendly staff and quick service that I feel really makes the experience. We once ordered something that was no longer on the menu and they happily obliged and made it up quick as a flash. Wonderful people! The menu is wide-ranging enough that non-sushi-lovers and Japanese virgins (woah, that sounds weird but you know what I mean) can enjoy it equally and just talking about it now is making my mouth water and I'm booking my train ticket back to Canterbury. I popped into Champs today on the way home from the school pick up so best I review it then!…read more Champs is quite a small bakery with traditional cakes (gypsy tarts, gingerbread men and those strange pretend ice cream cones filled with gooey sweet stuff). On display inside are several awards for their products and indeed their bread is very nice. It appears that they now offer a soup and bread service however this is illustrated by a photograph of an empty dried cup-a-soup packet and the finsihed product with a roll..I think they would be better with more home made soup. The staff are always friendly and as it is right near the busstop it is a great place to pop in and grab something before/after work. Champs also makes cakes to order.
