Most people shop because they have to, not because they want too. For many Herne Bay residents…read moreMorrisons is the only viable option they have for their weekly shop. Unfortunately they manage to make it as depressing as possible. Appearance: The Morrisons supermarket has never had much going for it cosmetically. The ourside is covered in drab grey slate and broken signing that shouts Eastern Europe rather than quaint seaside town. It doesn't get any better when you step foot inside either. Morrisons has recently had a refurbishment that has somehow rendered the shop looking worse than it was before. Products are literally all over the place and have no logical order. You end up traipsing from one aisle to the next trying to find the product you expected to be in aisle 3 in aisle 12 next to the crisps. Staff: There are several different types of staff that work in Herne Bay Morrisons and I shall attempt to classify them all. Firstly there is the middle aged lady who works even though she doesn't want too. You can identify this staff member by her complete lack of customer service skills and scary ice queen appearance. Morrisons employs a few of these ladies and I strongly suggest you stay away from them. We then move onto the younger workers. They may look slightly more welcoming than the scary ice queens but that's where the differences stop. These members of staff lack basic knowledge about the shop they work in and when asked a simple question go and find someone more senior to palm you off too. 'Let me go and get my manager' is a phrase you will hear a lot when you have the pleasure of shopping in Herne Bay Morrisons. The management themselves are a funny lot. I have heard the store manager shouting at his staff several times in the past and staff morale seems to be at an all time low which surely explains the staffs unhelpful attitude. Retention of management seems to be a bit of a gamble as well as they always seem to change. If the company can't keep good managers then there has to be something wrong with their whole operation. Products & Availability: Morrisons is incredibly small compared to supermarkets in Canterbury in Whitstable and therefore stocks a limited amount of items. However they do have a pie shop, deli and an in-store bakery that all sell 'fresh' items. The rest of the store stocks everything you expect it to, or not. On numerous occasions when I have visited they did not have any steak, salt, and only a very limited supply of bacon. Availability seems to be the main issue that blights this store. They just don't have what I want most of the time. They do stock it but it is never on the shelf. It could be in the warehouse or the chiller but they rarely go and look for you. Price: Morrisons do occasionally have some good offers. Half price rump steak is one my favourites but they normally sell out by the time I get there and they often do the same offers as Tesco. The price of Morrisons own products is reasonable but all of their branded products seem to be a bit pricey. Rambling conclusion: If you have no transport to get to Asda or Tesco then by all means shop in Morrisons. But be warned it is not going to be a pleasurable experience.

The pricing is reasonable and there is a good range of special offers usually available. There is a good deli counter and bakery, with a wider range of products than you'd expect given the size of the store. There is plenty of parking both on the road outside the store and in the store's own car park to the side and on the roof of the store.
