Unionville GO Station - The cars leaving the 1730 train on a Wednesday. It best just to wait

Ah, Unionville GO station. A decade ago, I took the GO train to and from downtown Toronto for work…read more Unionville is a stop along the Stouffville line. Milliken station is slightly closer to my home than Unionville. However, if I end up missing the last train for the evening, my next best bet would be to take the GO bus, which stops at Unionville station. Buses run all the time. Trains don't run on weekends. The parking lot gets extremely busy at rush hour. It's interesting seeing folks drive in like maniacs, park, and run like their lives depended on catching the train. It's both amusing and stressful. The parking lot is one of the larger ones for a GO station in the area. I rarely got a seat on the train during rush hour when I boarded here. I only got a seat when it was March Break and thought I had won the lottery. I also learned how to stand up and sleep on the train. It's a skill that I am still proud of to this day. This station has a cute building where you can purchase tickets. There are also washrooms. This location is ideal. It's by Kennedy and highway 407. So, if you need someone to pick you up, it's pretty easy to find this station. There's more retail development around the area since I was a GO commuter. I would estimate a five-minute drive, at most, from this station to the local plaza to eat and shop. You can walk it, but I wouldn't recommend it on a snowy day like today! (432)

Lots of free parking all around but may need to park further sometimes as this lot is busy. Since…read morethere is technically only one visible exit for each parking lot, some people run for their lives to get out of the parking lot as fast as possible to avoid the exit parking traffic. It is actually very stressful getting in and out of trying to pick someone up during rush hours. It will take a good 10 mins+ to just get out. You need all lot of patience as there are quite a few rude drivers out there. They really need extra stop signs for incoming traffic and extra exits. Whomever designed this place didn't think clearly with just one visible exit !! The go office is closed over the weekend so no washrooms are available. I could be wrong but I don't see a reload machine anywhere. You can buy a ticket , check, your balance or tap but no reload machine. There are two machine tickets booths - one near by the bus stops and one very the office that are self serve. Convenient but slow. Run for your lives!!

I live in Markham and their rates are fair compared to both Uber and Taxis. For a family of 4 with 4 full sized suitcases and carry-ons, they would typically provide either Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna. My last ride in March 2024 was a GMC Yukon. The equivalent Uber sized vehicle will be UberXL; which cost quite a bit more. I would call them in advance ... about a week ahead and they would follow up a couple of days before to confirm the ride. They were always early on arrival. I'm non-Chinese speaking and most drivers can communicate with basic English. For those drivers who spoke English, we had decent conversations to the airport .. vice versa. For those who spoke basic English ... so be it .. talked about the traffic or if preferred ... nice relaxing and quiet drive.

Operator wasn't particularly friendly, but effective.. The procedure went like this: 1) call to pre order. 2) arrive at YYZ. 3) when waiting for your luggage, call the number. The driver will tell you which massive concrete post to wait under 4) The driver verifies your name and phone number on the reservation 5) away you go. I'm told the driver was efficient, but sullen on the ride in. The car was a silver minivan, in good condition. 35 mins from time of pick up to downtown toronto. Overall, got the job done without having to wait in the taxi cue.

Used this "company" once before and the man called me saying he was 1 minute away but took 5 minutes. I was late for work so it was really frustrating. During the ride the man kept answering customer calls. He would give them the approximate time they'd have to wait but based on where I was going and where they were his times made no sense. Missed my bus to work today and called again because I had forgotten which taxi number this experience belonged to. Same man answered again and spoke very rudely. When he said 10-15 minutes I let him know I was late for work hoping for some urgency but instead got "I told you 10 - 15 minutes OK!?" In a very rude voice. Im use to reliable taxis not this garbage

I called this company for a taxi from my home in Markham to a clinic near Markham-Stouffville…read moreHospital. They said I had a 10 to 15 minutes wait time. So far so good - I would get to my medical appointment with lots of time to spare. 20 minutes later, I went back to my apartment and called the taxi company again. He didn't listen at all, just shouted, "yes yes 5 minutes". After 20 more minutes I called again. He just shouted over me and I couldn't understand what he meant to say. So I said, hey - just a minute - I've been waiting almost 45 minutes. If I have to call again, forget it, I don't want the taxi. Back outside, a cab driver passed me and parked down the street. I shouted and waved but no response. I keep waiting outside. Minutes go by and the driver backed along the street and parked the cab behind a big snowbank where the plows pushed all of the snow from the parking lot. I can't believe it - the cab driver is hiding. I can't walk over because of ice patches. That is why I called a taxi - if I wanted to walk down the street over ice to a transit stop I would take the bus. He had to pass me to leave, so I waited for a chance to wave him over. He stopped and tried to look innocent - a big, hairy, unshaven innocent cab driver. I was upset but I hoped to get to my appointment a few minutes late. As I started to climb into the van (hard for a senior), I asked him if he would drive me to the clinic near the hospital. Huh? Hospital? Do you know where the hospital is? Huh? Hospital? Yes, the Markham-Stouffville Hospital. Huh? Hospital? How is it possible that you can be THIS STUPID? I asked. Huh? NEVER MIND. I left to go back to my apartment. You know what? He had the gall to call-and-hang-up. A harassing phone call - incredible. The really awful part was calling the doctor to ask if I could come late. It sounded like such a lame excuse. They were not able to see me and I had to re-book for a week later. My doctor charges a fee for no-show patients who waste his time. I will find out next week whether I will be billed for this mess. The misadventure ends with another week in pain, an angry doctor and an extra fee. I had to give this company a star to post this.
