Before 1848, this was done with a trip on a rowboat or ferry; after 1848 a train suspension bridge was the preferred highway to freedom. The museum takes 30-60 minutes to explore, and it's beautifully done in multimedia. The gift shop is worth a look too: Volumes of history, and T-shirts. As I was driving away, I looked over Whirlpool Drive to the gorge, and saw the ruins of the old suspension bridge. It made the heart ache: So much human drama happened there, and now it's incognito.

The location is also convenient--if you're traveling by Amtrak to Canada, the museum is in the same building, making it a great activity before your train. The cost is a small fee, and absolutely worth every bit for the experience and knowledge gained. A must-visit if you're in the area.

And it is all free!…read more The parking lot is huge, but if you have someone with mobility difficulty, make sure you drop them off, because once you get in you will need to do a bit of walking as well. When you enter the building, you get lanyards and can visit a station to register. When you register, it takes your picture and tracks the various activities you do throughout the exhibits. You don't have to do this, but it is a fun step to see the results of your various activities and pictures at the end. You proceed down a long walkway with amazing views of the Niagara River and Lewiston Queenston Bridge. During December, they have a festival of trees which line the hallway with trees decorated by local organizations. It was a fun touch! There are a variety of information panels along the way. When you enter the main area, you proceed down the escalator (or elevator) to the main exhibit area. There is a movie about the power authority (and power in general) that I recommend starting off with. There is also a fun 4d simulator ride! If there isn't a staff person at the ride, you can go to the information desk and ask someone and they will get you in. There are interactive sections where you work through a variety of situations (like working to keep and restore power to a fictional town). There is also a cool cave like walk through that talks about the geology of the gorge area. We spent about two hours here because my kids were insistent on doing every activity. But you could spend less time if there wasn't as much interest. A highlight was the literal hair raising Van De Graff generator. Staff walk you through the safety protocol and then you get to experience your hair standing straight up! It was really a fun touch. You can go out on the balcony area for some stunning views or a quick break from the action. I also learned that they host birthday parties or other gatherings here. What a unique idea! If you want to learn more about electricity or are just looking for something unique to do, this is a great place to visit.

The long hallway going over the Niagara Scenic Parkway, that you have to walk to get to the power vista fun exhibits, is lined with Christmas trees decorated by local organizations like the girl scouts, people Inc., etc.. It's fun to see how they choose to decorate incorporating their organizations purpose. It's different every year. Many handmade ornaments showcasing the talents of individuals, many who benefit from the organization. I always get a few new ideas to use by seeing their creativity. Plus you can still so the rest of the power vista fun things like the simulator ride. Free admission, free parking....what more could you want?

This attraction doesn't require an appointment, but it is a longer bus ride from the other Niagara Parks attractions, so be sure to plan for that. We used our passes to take the WEGO bus from Niagara Takes Flight to the butterfly conservatory. Rain was in the forecast, so this is a nice, indoor option. The conservatory itself houses so many butterflies, and they tell you upon entry that it is thought to be lucky if a blue one lands on you, so everyone inside is doing their best to attract a blue butterfly. Several landed on us, and while you don't want to move for fear of them flying away, you also want to get your companion's attention to snap that perfect pic! We had lots of fun even though the temperature is kept very warm and the space was crowded. Clearly, everyone had the same rainy-day activity planned. My only complaint comes from when I asked about re-entry. I was told that we could leave the conservatory, but not the building. We wanted to visit the cafe and grab a bite to eat or something to drink and perhaps return once the crowd had thinned out a bit, but that is not permitted. We were told that we could step out to cool down in the gift shop or lobby area and then return through the same entrance that we used when we arrived. The volunteer got on her walkie to tell someone that we'd be coming back in, so I'm not even sure that this is normally permitted. Overall, it was a fun and new experience for us. The staff was kind and the conservatory is beautiful. There's also a botanical garden and at least one beehive there, but we didn't get to explore the outdoor areas due to the rain.

This small museum has a ton of Lewiston History packed inside the converted old church. Run by the…read morewonderful people of the Historical Society of Lewiston the care taking shows in the details, the displays and the cleanliness. Lewiston history is recalled with video presentations as well as physical items on display in the beautiful showcases of around the room. The HAL members are very knowledgeable and willing to tell the stories of the people and times of Lewiston's past. A nice place to spend a bit of time wandering and looking at unique remnants of days gone by.

This is a festival I try to attend every year. I love the different art that is there and the…read morefestival vibes. Most years there are the same vendors there, but it is comforting. There is always something new to discover. Also, it is in Lewiston, which is one of the cutest villages in the area. During the festival, most of the stores are open, and it is nice to also shop there. I absolutely love the chalk drawing competition every year that the students create. This year's theme was Woodstock, peace and love. The students have so much talent.

They're currently doing some renovations so we walked around to the entrance on the side of the building. It was relatively close to the parking lot which was nice especially with a toddler. We looked at all the exhibits and the tanks. We loved the penguins and the sea lions. We watched the sea lion show which was really cool on the top level looking down into the tank. They have a touch tank for their rays and baby sharks too which was cool to try. The only downside is that it's a bit small. We were done with everything in less than an hour and could've stayed for another show but opted to leave. It was a great experience but we just needed a little more.

Overall, I like the Aquarium and it was well worth the $7.16 I paid to get in. I'd feel cheated if I paid the full $25 ticket price.

I love their programs at this museum. Artist talks are fun, relaxing and informative. It's an…read moreinteractive experience where you can learn and talk about art in a beautiful environment. Most exhibits have an opening reception where many times you can meet the artist and hear about their process. There are a few different galleries with changing exhibits. One is a very large space which is sometimes used for lectures and presentations. The museum is free. Easy access from the 190 but parking is limited. The volunteers and staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The exhibits are varied in styles. Right now there's one on tattoo artists and one on fairy tales and Greek mythology. I keep going back so I don't miss anything in this ever changing space.
