Was visiting my folks in Ajijic. We came here after having had a real nice experience the last time I was visiting the area. There were only two other groups of customers and my mom and I waited 45 minutes for food that we never received because they never put in the order for the food in the first place. They took our drink order after 25 mins of sitting there. I'm really disappointed because I really liked their food before. I'm a pretty patient and considerate person, and figured that they were busy and didn't think anything of it at first. We realized that the actual kid (maybe 13 years old at most) that took our order didn't put the order in after my mom asked them in Spanish why it was taking almost an hour to get the food out. To make it even worse, they didn't even check in on us or really acknowledge that we were there and they knew we were there. That really bothered me. I won't be returning here ever again. read more

I came here super excited for an all organic restaurant. It came highly recommend by 3 people. The vibe and energy in the store is amazing! They sell lots of great organic food items and other zen stuff. They Have wonderful paintings on the walls. Was even a incense burning with great ambience music. Service was wonderful. The reason for 3 stars was my large salad. Now the dressing they should bottle it. Delicious. It didn't state what it had in it on the menu but I figured it would be wonderful. It came with lettuce, green beans, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds. It was great tasting. I just left unsatisfied. Honestly for $95 pesos I would expect a medley of veggies and a lot of them. Maybe they had sold out all there veggies for salad. I will go back to give another shot. read more

Such a hidden gem! This place is vegan and gluten free. Perfect for tourists and americans, but also for locals who are craving change. I would love to go back for the breakfast menu. The food is so colorful and refreshing. Oh and don't even get me started on the scenery. From breakfast, to lunch, to desserts and juice, they have it all. I was also impressed that the servers spoke english and the menu was in english. Very helpful for a non-local. We will be back tomorrow! Food tasted better when you can pronounce the ingredients. My husband and I were introduced to the wonderful Machima a couple of weeks ago by friends. We've now dined here five times and every time has been superb in terms of food, service and overall experience. Machima serves mostly organic, artisanal vegan items. Some menu items include cooked whole eggs which can easily be omitted for vegans. Dining on the peaceful shady garden patio is the perfect way to start your day. Some of our delicious favorites are the Budda Bowl, Avo Zen Toast, black bean tacos, and the gluten free Mesquite Waffle. Machima offers regular, decaf, and copomo coffee and offer rice, almond and coconut milk. We were guests at a recent Blind Vegan Dinner hosted by Machima which was a great treat. I recommend Machima for a delicious soul and tummy-satisfying meal in Ajijic. read more

The two meals that I've eaten here so far have been excellent. The portobello mushroom with avocado on a bed of cauliflower couscous was amazing. And their plantain dessert with vegan chocolate ice cream was a great finale! Excellent service and a lovely garden atmosphere. Even though they are right on the Carretera, their garden is in the back and quiet with a lovely view of the mountains. read more

All of the dishes we've tried have been very good, and it's nice to have vegan/vegetarian options. The smoothies are especially good. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the service can be very slow. Once we had to wait for one whole hour before we got our food. They explained that they were short-handed that day, but they should have told us that when we were seated, not after we were served. We will go back, we love the food. read more

My daughter lives in West Hollywood, California and is a health fanatic. I visit and stay with her several times a year where we go out to vegan and vegetarian restaurants daily. She shops at organic and natural food stores like Whole Food Markets and Erewhon, and over the last few years I have become quite fond of health focussed restaurants. I moved to Ajijic in April 2017 and have been searching for health focussed restaurants since my arrival. To my delight I recently discovered Machi Ma' on the Carretera close to the XOXO. Machi Ma' means the "Healing Power Of Mother Earth" and what better way than through healthy natural food? Although husband & wife, Jorge & Jessica Ramos, were born in Guadalajara what better place to open their health focussed restaurant than Ajijic which for centuries has been known for its therapeutic waters and healthy climate. This lovely couple and their new baby boy "Karun" (born in February) each brings their talents to create not only a healthy alternative in eating but in creating a healthy atmosphere in which to enjoy your meal. Jorge worked in restaurants in Guadalajara and New Zealand. He brings the delicious flavors of México and international cuisine to the mix. Jessica, a licensed nutrionist for 12 years and a practitioner in alternative medicine, message therapy, reiki and yoga, brings the focus of restaurant. As for baby Karun he adds to the atmosphere of "New Life". Together they create a unique and healthy dining experience for body and soul. Machi Ma' offers high quality vegan (~85%) and vegetarian (~15%) cuisine that equals the best restaurants in the health focussed areas around Hollywood and San Francisco. The menu is varied and extensive. At long last I found a vegetarian/vegan option Lakeside. Machimá is a sweet little restaurant on the main highway in town. A cute young couple from Guadalajara runs it. They have a huge menu, with lots of choices for breakfast, lunch, dessert, and drinks. You will find gluten-free, lactose free, vegan, and vegetarian options here. I had the Buddha bowl today, which was fresh and tasty. My friend had the vegetable fritters which she gobbled up. We both had coconut milk-based ice cream for dessert. She had taro flavor and I had chocolate mint. I also had a vegan brownie. Happiness galore! read more

Machimá is one of our favorite restaurants for breakfast or lunch, not just because of the creative dishes and drinks, but because it is mostly organic. They are able to accommodate gluten free diners (like me!) and their gf waffles are so yummy! Jorge is a creative chef, so the meals are not only delicious, but beautifully presented as well. This is a great spot to just drop in for one of their juice or smoothie blends, but once you see the menu, you'll want to order food. Well worth visiting, again and again! read more
