I've been training at RCJ Machado in Farmer's Branch for over 9 months now. I have really enjoyed my time so far and look forward to many years of training. This location is the home-base of Master Carlos Machado who runs the training. In addition to the world-class instruction, there are great students. The beginner classes are always large enough to give you plenty of options for training partners. The advanced classes look to have a good mix as well. Training has become one of the highlights of my week and I highly recommend you come try it for yourself! read more

I was able to attend an open mat on New Year's Eve. I saw a post on instagram and reached out via text. I heard back quickly and was able to attend. It was a great open mat, I wish I was able to stay longer. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, the level of Jiu jitsu is very high at this academy. Got beat up a bunch and enjoyed the learning experiences. Thank you to Michael for beating me up but also taking the time to teach me as well - inside camping lesson both during the round and after. There aren't many academies that have a master walking around and mingling with their students. I was so lucky to be able to talk with master Machado and take a pic with him. He is a true legend and is such an ambassador as a master of Jiu jitsu. Thank you for the hospitality and rolls! read more

Cmon, the Legend Carlos Machado in Texas? This is the source of BJJ right here in the USA. Not only is he a master at BJJ, but a great teacher who cares and is an amazing human. I can't say enough great things about this academy. Just go!!! read more

I just wanted to take a moment to share how much Antônio, my 11-year-old son, has been loving the classes. He is usually a very enthusiastic boy, but he tends to want to quit things after a while. However, with Jiu-Jitsu, he has been truly passionate--not just because of the sport itself, but also because of the people, the environment, and the way everyone teaches, cares, and leads the classes. I really appreciated the call asking how things were going, what could be improved, and how Antônio was doing. That level of care means so much! Antônio has become more disciplined, and he comes home really tired--he uses up all his energy in the best way possible. One of the reasons we enrolled him was because he has so much energy and is such a joyful kid. It has been incredible. The complaints from school have stopped, and I am truly happy and completely satisfied with the love, attention, professionalism, teaching, and technique of the entire team. This was definitely the right decision for us, and it has been an amazing experience. Antônio attends every day from Monday to Thursday, and it has been wonderful. We are totally satisfied! A huge thank you to the entire team! Lays Tateno, read more

Master Machado made me feel at home! I was visiting Dallas for work. I am a black belt from Arizona and was impressed by the caliber of instruction and the quality of the students. I learned from of the best. If you are considering BJJ or switching Dojos, I recommend Carlos Machado to a beginner and experienced person! read more

Seriously this is the BOMB! Carlos Machado is the 1st cousin to the famed Gracie family that mastered the art called Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. He is also thought of by many as the best of the family when it comes to training others as is seen by the pictures on the walls of the many UFC stars that have trained with him. Pro/Con: This is NOT a fight club. It's a training dojo which may be a pro or con depending on your definition. You can learn the basics and more here without fear of getting your face smashed in. That said, there are several folks training here that compete and win. More than that he's just a good guy with a great staff! I highly recommend you checking them out. read more

I was fortunate enough to be able to train with Carlos for over 8 years, before 99% of people even knew what Brazilian jiu-jitsu was! I would still be training with him today if I hadn't developed kidney failure. There is no doubt that among those in the Jiu-Jitsu world, that Carlos is one of, if not the best instructor in the entire world. He stresses the basics, something many do not do. I haven't trained since 2005, but Carlos' teaching is so ingrained into me that if I was attacked today, I have no doubt that I could defend myself, even though I'm a broken down, old man! DFW is very lucky to have a teacher like Carlos in town! Back when I 1st started training, people would travel 3X week from Houston, Shreveport, OKC & many other places just to be able to train with Carlos! I was so impressed that I had my son, then 13 train with Carlos, & he feels the same way about training with Carlos as I do! read more

There is literally no better place to practice! My daughter is in the kids class and has grown so much. Long story short she was being bullied in school and now has the confidence to stand up for herself. Professor Philip is the BEST and deserves all the praise in the world but he has an AWESOME team helping him train all these little ones. Coaches Brian, Mark, Clara and Bishop all make a wonderful and supportive team. If you're looking for a kids program, this is the BEST kid's program around. Philip, Brian, Mark, Clara and Bishop if you see this we love everything and all the hard work you put into all the kids not just ours! read more

Machado Method Jiu Jitsu - Carlos Machado is the best - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Carrollton, Texas

I have been blessed to have the opportunity of training at Carlos Machado's academy for a few years now. This is hands-down the best place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and practical self defense in the Southern U.S. let alone the Metroplex. Carlos Machado is the head instructor and head instructor I mean the man actually teaches--all the time. The man you are learning from is the nephew of the man who invented Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a cousin to some of the notables in the sport, Royce, Rickson, etc Gracie. He is also the man who gave Chuck Norris his belt in the sport and coach of regular UFC fighters including Elvis Sinosic, GSP, etc. Carlos is a decorated warrior in the sport and won the 2008 Hall of Fame Instructor award. The school is family friendly, free of douche-bags, and a clean learning environment with an awesome MMA instructor on deck as well who himself is an up and coming cage fighter. The advanced students of RCJ Machado are generally able to bulldoze peers in the sport and usually steamroll those of comparable rank from other academies. It is legit and lives up to its motto of "Accept No Substitutes." There are few places which are capable of truly building bad-asses from the cradle to the grave. This place is one of them. read more

To have the opportunity to attend a legend's school such as Carlos Machado's is quite a blessing. To actually be taught by Mr. Machado directly is even better. To grapple with a legend, unbelievable... and you'll learn two things, one; you are not as good as you think you are, and two; he is a legend for a reason. I was wary of getting into jiu-jitsu as I have been away from the sport for almost ten years. I didn't feel out of place in Mr. Machado's school from the very first day. Mr. Machado is ever-present in the school and attempts to welcome every person, every single class, personally. I wanted to learn honest jiu-jitsu without the bells and whistles, and I've been nothing short of completely satisfied. I have found that my own skills are growing, and my fitness is increasing, while I'm having an amazing time. There is a huge variety of all shapes and sizes within the school (including my 6' 9" self) so I've never felt self conscious. Small, large, out of shape, in-shape, there is an opponent on your level for you, and a class that will help you out. I did notice the lack of muscle heads, Affliction wearing frat boys, and general bullies that I experienced in other schools, and they're a welcome absence. I love the school, and I couldn't be more satisfied with my fellow students, my instructors, and Mr. Machado's demeanor. As in my other Yelp reviews, I'm a stickler for atmosphere and treatment of the customer. Machado's school exemplifies what I look for in a service and I can truthfully say that walking into this school for the first time has been one of the best decisions I have made since coming to Dallas. read more

My son, age 6, has been training here for about 6 months. He enjoys the classes and has learned a great deal, and almost immediately after starting here, his behavior at home and in school improved. We obviously couldn't ask for a better instructor. The price is reasonable enough, well worth every penny. If you're looking to learn bjj, for kids or adults, this place is top notch. read more

Carlos Machado is a living legend of jiu-jitsu. A true original pioneer of the art. He is regarded as elite level and one of the finest instructors in the world. But all of this you'll find on google. I've been training with him and his family for many years and vouch that his level of understanding and presentation of jiu-jitsu is rare. At 50 yrs+ he is vibrant, passionate, on the mat, sparring and teaching classes regularly. You won't find maybe a handful in the world at his level doing what he does. read more

A moved to Dallas a few months ago and had been feeling like something was missing from my "normal everyday". I live a very active life and have been an athlete my whole life and for the first time I was away from my everyday gym, hiking trails etc. I decided I wanted to try something new and challenging and Jiu-Jitsu crossed my mind and I came across RCJ Machado. Hands down.. the best money I've spent since moving to Dallas (besides the roof over my head of course) !! I am just finishing up my 3rd week here and I love it more and more after every class. Its addicting and I always seem to want more the next day. It challenges me mentally and physically..exactly what I was looking for. I admit, I was a little bit intimidated walking into my first class but 15 min into it & I felt completely at ease and very welcomed by everyone there. Its a positive and encouraging environment and Mr. Machado has a great teaching ability. He's smart and his teachings are well thought out and acted out. From beginners like myself to advanced.. there is a spot here for everyone. They have children classes and adult classes. I highly recommend that if you are thinking about Jiu-Jitsu and you are still reading this review... go and check them out now!! You wont regret it! :) read more

His jiu jitsu is a straight line through Carlinhos & Rolls Gracie back to Maeda. Go to the source! read more

Our journey with RCJ was a long-time coming! For years my husband spoke of 'one day learning BJJ' despite his hectic work and family schedule. Last year he began carving out that time and finally took the plunge. To our delight, both of our sons soon followed suit. Given Master Machado's super-star status in the sport it was a no-brainer where in Dallas area train. We've had added privilege of being students to other instructors at the academy who, in addition to Master Machado, are arguably the best in the area. Master Machado and all of the instructors are engaging, encouraging and genuinely value the student mastery of technique and development. Both Lindsay and Elizabeth in the office work their asses off and passionately support the academy and all things BJJ. We value and appreciate the warm family-feel of the academy during the kids' lessons. My sons' blossoming confidence, increased overall concentration and respect are undoubtedly results of their training. In a culture cursed with instant gratification and softened consequences my boys learn through BJJ resilience and perseverance of long term goals. Of all the sports my kids have played BJJ is by far my favorite as a parent to watch. My husband's BJJ training is now an integral part of his weekly schedule and his love of training grows weekly. To witness both his growth and that of my sons' is a wife's and mother's dream. read more

My brother went to this gym and recently he hurt a kid that was a purple belt and the kid told his dad that my brother laughed at him when my brother did not laugh at all he said sorry and asked if the kid was ok. The dad told the instructor Coach Johnny and the next day the coach had my 11 year old brother go against a 17 year old that is a blue belt. While they were rolling my brother would tap and the coach would say keep going this went on 3 or 4 more times until my brother was in tears after the coaches see my brother in tears they ask him why is he crying and that the only reason they rolled hard with him is because he can't hurt other kids. My brother left in tears because they were punishing him for no reason they were punishing him because another kid lied on him! When my brother that was watching him asked why is he crying all they could tell him was "we don't make paper airplanes in here" We called the gym to see what happened and the coach told us that the reason they did that was because he hurt another kid and didn't say sorry and that he would cancel our membership which they did. We were furious that they took maters into there own hands and punished my brother in there own way! They had no right to do this! After begging someone to have a meeting with my family 2 weeks later we finally had that meeting the two coaches and the instructor that rolled with my brother were there and could not tell the truth all they could say was that they roll with everyone like that and they did not do this to punish him because of hurting the kid they just do this all the time they said it was a normal thing and they said that my brother was only mad because he got controlled which is ridiculous because my brother gets controlled all the time in practice they literally said to my brother that the reason they did that was because he hurt the kid! They also told my mom the same thing. They were lying to my family in order to not face legal action because that's what this was ASSAULT they ganged up on my 11 year old brother and had him in tears just to try and teach him a lesson when he did nothing wrong. I would not recommend this gym to anyone. read more

This place is amazingly clean, the staff is very friendly and it is a family oriented place. I have looked all over Dallas to find a place where my kids and I fit in and are not always surrounded by a bunch of guys. They have a great group of women and kids that train here and we just love it! The instruction takes students from A to B easily making progress in rank easy to understand. No guess work or wondering what it takes to move up in rank. It is all laid out. Another thing that I love about this place is the instructors take the time out to help you one on one in case me or my kids need extra help learning something we seem to be struggling with. If you want amazing instruction and a place where everyone feels like family then this is the place for you! read more
