I have had MacDonald Insurance since around 2005. When first signing up they asked what day I wanted my payments taken out and they helped me set up my EFT for the 20th of each month. Over the years the holder of my policy changed once. MacDonald's informed me and had me do what was necessary. It changed again this year and this time was different. I was informed my policy was changing by mail and that I didn't need to do anything and to keep an eye out for correspondence from the company. The first thing I receive from the new company is a notice of non-payment saying my insurance is being cancelled. The previous company had taken out the insurance in July and it's before August 20th so I was confused.
I call MacDonald's thinking there was some type of mistake and that they would help me sort it out and was basically told it was my problem because I didn't update my EFT which I didn't realize I had to do (but was irrelevant as it isn't even the 20th yet so it wasn't even time for the EFT to be taken out). Then I was informed that this company takes the money on the first which was new to me because every company Ive had through MacDonald's has always adhered to the 20th setup and that I had to now put down 25% of my yearly amount. NONE of this was told to me or run by me before changing my policy. I was told the insurance company sent me a letter ...never got it.
The worst part of all of it was that Joe was very rude to me. I asked who I was talking to thinking it had to be someone other than him as I've never had issues before and was really surprised to hear it was Joe, himself. I kept asking questions and asking for explanations and he would laugh at me as if I was stupid for feeling like I should've been informed so that I was not stuck with this large bill and a shut off notice. He basically told me it was not his problem how my money was setup and that I should be happy that he saved me $100/yr in the long run as if that helps me at all with the bill sitting in front of me. When I stated that the letter he sent me stated that the policy was changing and there was nothing I had to do, he stated "You're reading into 'nothing you have to do'." He told me the conversation was going in circles when I was trying to understand why I was never given any information. He said to me "Um, this conversation has been going on for 16 minutes now" in an irritated tone and when I asked if that was the kind of customer service he provided, he stated, "Yes."
So that anyone who attempts to use MacDonald's knows, does their customer service consist of misleading information, rude and disrespectful interactions, lack of knowledge of the policies that they are randomly signing you up for, and then laughing at you for not understanding the mess they have made? In the words of Joe MacDonald, yes. read more
