I was excited with my first visit, as I appreciate these experts of Make-Up who genuinely embrace us non-wearing makeup people as myself. Even though I'm a lipstick fanatic, I didn't know there's a Primer for your lips. Azeez, sold me on the Primer as well as the Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick - Red, that he said was long wear & doesn't run. Even with applying the Primer, the application still looked feathery & the lipstick comes off/runs pretty easily. Not to mention, I had to return to the store to exchange the first Lipstick as it was broken. Azeez stated he had to keep the box to 'damage out' the product, which I didn't prefer in case I needed to make another exchange/return. I did mentioned my concern with the lipstick & wish I would have just returned it...wasted money & lesson learned. Sometimes 'Freebies' aren't always worth it. read more

They were ok and helped me find good colors. I did a trial and the artist applied good colors but she gave me the wrong color lipstick to purchase after I tried 3 different colors. I mean the color I purchased was not one of the ones I tried. Expensive error on her part. 40 bucks down the drain. I might seem spoiled for trying on makeup but I don't buy makeup much and it was for an event so I hope she didn't ring up the wrong color on purpose. read more

(This review is for the Macy's MAC -- not the one located in the mall) Came to the MAC Makeup Artist this past weekend to get my make up done for a wedding. I arrived about 30 minutes earlier and thankfully they still took me because I was running a little late. Marilyn, Maryann, Sue-lyn (sorry I am terrible with names), but a VERY nice lady with the cutest dreads did my makeup. I don't like to toot my own horn but TOOT TOOT! I looked amazing. I asked for something not too flashy that will make my eyes pop and she did just that. Not only did she do an amazing job but she explained the process of applying the makeup as well. The entire night I received compliments on my make up and I felt gorgeous! I hardly wear makeup because I hate the way it feels on my face especially after a long night, but at the end of the night I still felt as beautiful as I did when I first saw my transformation. Granted to you have to spend $50+ to get your makeup done it is well worth it. I gave all the products I brought to my Mum, but my next paycheck I think I am going to start up my own makeup kit. This review is for the MAC store, not the kiosk in Macy's. I went into MAC to purchase makeup for my wedding. The staff was so very friendly. Angie helped me pick all of my colors, listened to my concerns, offered helpful suggestions, and showed me how to utilize my products. She did my makeup for me (one eye in a gold color and the other in a plum so I could see which I might like best). She has a great eye for colors because I liked everything she picked for me and these are not normally colors I would choose or wear. I read some reviews about the MAC stores being snobby but I did not encounter that at all. Everyone was fun, polite, helpful, and knowledgable about their products. I was not sure how expensive these products would be. They are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but I found their prices to be pretty on par with things like Smashbox (another fav!). Lastly, not only can you turn in 6 of your empty plastic containers and receive a free product but they donate money for each product with the red/fuschia container. Who knew? read more

Why do I feel like customer service is dead? . Went into the Mac store today and at 7:00 pm on a Friday there's one associate and a security guard at the door. The security guard was dressed in a black suit and at first I thought she was a makeup assistant but she said there were some girls in the back. Turns out there were about three in the back but they seemed to be occupied with their own thing, not customers that's for sure! The girl that was finally helping me, and I use "help" generously, gave the vibe of wanted to get back to whatever she was doing rather than help. I kept asking her questions about products and for suggested liners to go with the lipstick I picked. She would give me a few options and then ask "is that it." She must have asked if I was ready to check out like four times kid you not...(sigh). My last question was about a lipstick 'Myth' and some other suggested liners to make it look "better" and she all but sighed and said 'I don't know you can try one of the ones you've tried or lip gloss if you want to make it pop I guess.' Well I got frustrated and bought my stuff and left. I've had better service from this store, so disappointed today though. Good thing their product is bomb cause I so wanted to just say "never mind" and walk out. Grrrrrrr read more

This is a cute little boutique MAC store. Really your experience will be based upon your needs and the Artist you just happen to vibe with. For me it's been a hit or miss. I'm not a huge fan of Mac make up. I know some people swear by Mac but maybe it's just my skin type or my complexion. I came in for a concealer and foundation. The artist working mismatched me on both. To be fair I do have an odd skin type and coloring. Usually for me products have to be specially blended. However one artist did do a superb job and matching a discontinued lip color for me. If you're just looking for a quick make up tips or a nice makeover check this place out. While causally entering Mac i was greeted by a bunch of beautiful ladies isis approached me to assist me individually. I explain to isis that I was looking for a foundation that wasn't to heavy nor to light. Assuming the question was asked too frequent she began to say irritatedly " y'all come In here asking for that all the time but all our foundations are full coverage" instead offering me something that would best fit my request I felt I was being pushed out the store instead . read more

First of all, I went in this store knowing what I wanted to try ( just needed to swatch to 2 foundation shades to see which matched better). So I asked one of the girls if they can swatch the shades for me( mind you I had already picked out the two I wanted) she starts picking out other shades that weren't even my skin tone and I made a comment as how it's funny every time I need a shade match every person gives me something completely different (which is true!) she literally just walks away and I'm like uhh what abt the shade match I asked for and she's like do you want to do it yourself ! At that point I was like you know what sure ( I'll probably do a better job anyways) she just goes away and behind the counter starts texting on her phone and then few mins later just leaves the store( maybe it was her break idk). I picked up what I wanted and even the other chick working there looked like someone was holding a gun to her head to work there! Not sure if MAC just doesn't have a good hiring process cause the workers they got working at this location were just full of themselves. Lesson learned .... go somewhere else :) read more

I went to the MAC store at the mall (I think on the 3rd or 2rd floor) and I was really impressed with my experience. I was reluctant to go because any time I've been to a MAC store, it takes forever till someone helps me and they have always been indifferent about helping me. Not this time! I walked in and someone immediately asked me what they can help me with. I told them I needed to be matched for a foundation, she found a seat for me and asked me to wait. I waited for about 3-5 mins and someone came over and really took her time to figure out the perfect color for me. After she told Me what it was, she made sure my face was done- added powder, bronzer, and highlight just like how I walked into the store. Usually in my experience, once they color match, they never really care to make sure you're put together again. I really appreciated the care she took to make sure I liked my look. I was so impressed by the use of the products, I made sure I wrote down everything. The best part? Since I told her I wasn't going to buy the bottle, she gave me a generous sample of the foundation. For my wedding day, I wanted to hire a make up artist who could do my makeup at the hotel that me and my bridesmaids would be getting ready. My goal for the makeup was to have a look that brought out my best features, looked beautiful in person AND in photographs, and had staying power through my ceremony and reception. By pure luck I called the Nordstrom counter at Pentagon City to ask about their freelance artists and was introduced to Clara Epps, the counter manager for MAC Cosmetics at Nordstrom in Pentagon City. I made an appointment for a trial (free at the store) with her and loved the look she created for my wedding day. She was incredibly friendly, personable, and professional. Needless to say, I hired her for my wedding day and am SO happy I did. She came to the hotel my bridal party was getting ready at in Old Town Alexandria, arrived early, and did an amazing job on my mother's, stepmother's, and my makeup. I got SO many compliments- she made me look like a glowing bride in person and in photographs. I can not recommend her highly enough to future brides (or anyone looking for a great makeup artist)!
