The process of registering for a class was quite simple, and did appericate the fact of being able to select your bike, prior to class . The front desk was quite kind, as I unfortunatly got stuck at a few lights and was a few minutes late for class with giving me a quick tour, helping set my bike up , and ensuring that I had the correct shoes for the class. My first class, was Mo, Remix Ride which is a beat based power ride that is measured on metrics. Lets be honest, I just wanted to keep up and get a good work out. The cycling room consisted of 30 bikes, with towels at each station for the riders comfort, and convience. Mo, was amazing, very motivational and uplifting is just what I needed for an early Saturday morning class. The only reason for the four stars, which I would have been able to take a beginner class, prior to the Remix Ride; but it didnt work out that way. The workout really gave you a workout of muscles that I havent used in quite a long time. Highly, highly recommend Mo, for a class, overally clean facility, and outstanding experience. I finally found a wonderful meditative yoga practice in Buffalo...and it turned out to be only a…read morefew blocks away from my apartment! I've heard about the Himalayan Institute for a while, but finally took the plunge and signed up for a 6-week long class series of their "Level II" yoga classes last night. The Himalayan Institute is a wonderful 501(3)c non-profit that offers yoga classes, workshops, lectures, etc inside their elegant mansion on Delaware Ave. When you stop in, you feel like you're inside a cozy home. There's a place to take off your shoes and an immediate bookstore to your left. Further down, there's the main living room where classes take place. It helps to take a class that has 10-12 people and not too much more as the room can get pretty crowded with 16+ people or so I hear. Here's what stands out about the Himalayan Institute: their yoga classes generally center around a meditation-practice. As a result, I feel incredibly relaxed and focused afterward. As opposed to some classes (such as Evolation), where I sweat like I'm inside some Finnish bathhouse and leave the class with more of an exercise high. With most classes, you have to sign up for a full 6-week commitment (usually $80), although they do offer drop-in classes on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm for beginners ($5) and on Saturdays (9:30-11am) for a more intermediate ($10) practice. In summary, I adore their meditative approach, yoga teachers as well as the novelty of practicing yoga inside a cozy old mansion. Unfortunately, there are no accessible showers in the facility, but there is a bathroom where you can change.

I can't imagine how difficult this past year would have been without these classes. Karen teaches Zumba Fitness and Back In Shape classes on Zoom several times a week. These classes have helped me strengthen my core, maintain good balance, stay flexible, and respect my body. I love taking these classes in the comfort of my home. Karen is a licensed certified fitness instructor, so she knows how to teach you to tone, stretch, and strengthen without injuring yourself. The music that she plays is always fun, and she is very motivating. I can tell that she truly cares about her students as she adjusts movements to all levels of fitness and ability. Fifteen minutes before class, I sign into Zoom and adjust the sound and video. Then anyone who wants to "chat", ask questions, or voice a concern is able to talk to the group. Next, we gear up our weights and stretch cords and off we go. At the end of the class, we come together as a group and sign off. Karen always has a smile and an inspirational message for us.
