MAC is the only makeup brand I use and I don't mind paying a pretty penny for the three things I normally buy...in Canada. But in Canada I lost an eyeliner brush and figured it was no big deal/sacrifice of my first child to get a new one. I hit up the MAC counter in De Bijenkorf (not the one on Heiligeweg!) and plunked down €21 for an eyeliner brush. In Canada I think it's $17, which I thought was expensive, but I was pretty blown away by Amsterdam prices. That said, I did go to two other stores in search of said brush. First I hit up Ingflot, which said they were out of stock for two weeks and had an off-putting sales person, and then some store on Kalverstraat, which also had off-putting staff and lower quality brushes. The person at De Bijenkorf was kind, quick, helpful, and not off-putting. Thanks, MAC! Update: I recently learned about Hema. I wish you could have seen my face when I saw their brush is €2.50. I was so happy to run across Mac Cosmetics in the center. What I love about Mac is that they have so many vibrant colors for all women. They offer a wide range of quality cosmetic products.To be honest I am more of like a Clinique girl but this is the next best thing for me when it comes to brand makeup. I was happy to find Mac in the center of Amsterdam. When I first came to Holland, I was disappointed that Clinique did not carry my complexion in foundation, so I just end up ordering a few items from Nordstrom in LA to hold me for a while. However, I did run across a few spots that sold makeup for women of color but there was no way I was putting cheap makeup on my face. I know makeup isn't all too great for your skin in general, but Mac is a great makeup brand when you want to get dolled up and rock the covergirl look. Plus they are very environmental conscious and Mac is a brand that does not test on animals. read more
