    * FTR #400, Review #700!!!! *…read more What are the chances of the milestone FTR and review count to coincide?!?!?!?! What to review? And why Le Tigre? 1) This isn't a fancy brasserie. 2) This is just a small neighbourhood local spot. 3) I have never had lunch here. 4) I've never had a drink here. So why the review? I ate breakfast here almost every day in Dijon. It was close to where I was staying, and I really really liked the owner. He really has such a fabulous attitude for a small local brasserie. Oh, and there is an artists' rendition of him (shaved head and all) on the menu cover! I wondered if his nickname was "The Tiger?" Hm....... The breakfast offerings were quite simple. Your choice of croissant or baguette. Both were quite good and sadly better than anything we can get in Vancouver, even though this is just a small local place that doesn't bake their own. Your choice of coffee or tea. Again nothing fancy. Pure simple honest food. The thing I like about the owner though? Even though breakfast was so simple, he was sitting behind the bar reading a cookbook! He is constantly trying to learn new techniques, and it left us wondering why we didn't visit for lunch to try his cooking - I suppose for another trip! (Perhaps after he has finished reading the book!) Another thing I like? He let's local musicians play in the brasserie many days. So you can enjoy a very casual setting, with simple pure honest food and a little bit of musical entertainment. A perfect local hole-in-the-wall - Dijon style!

If you are a seasoned restaurateur or a foodie fluent in French cuisine, stop reading this review…read more It review is not for you. If you are an American tourist with a couple hundred euros to spend on a delicious, authentic five-course gourmet French dinner, you are far more likely to gain something from what I'm about to say. Restaurant Stéphane Derbord is a treat for the senses. I'll start with the wine. As one Yelper already commented, the wine list is extensive. I ordered a 1999 Chardonnay for about 75 euros. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Completely. It bears repeating that this is not a bargain hunter's establishment. I could describe in detail the sensational appetizers, entrees, cheeses, and desserts we enjoyed, but I'd rather advocate for the overall experience and allow your taste buds to do the talking if ever you dine here. It is foolish (and impossible) to rush through your meal. Take a page from the French and "seet back and enjoie zeh whole sing." Sip your wine slowly. Take time to admire the artistry of everything that arrives at your table before you begin eating. When the waiter rolls out a cart covered in every kind of cheese imaginable, don't pick just one to try - pick ten, and cogitate as you chew. Be delicate with your dessert and give your stomach time to digest. For a main course, I recommend the duck, though I would be doing le chef a disservice by recommending anything at the expense of anything else. Every dish is lovingly made and French to the core, so don't be afraid to explore. I also recommend requesting a sampler platter for dessert. It's not on the menu, but the waiter ought to oblige. From the dainty macaroons to the beautiful cake sculptures, the platter is a sweet, rapturous journey to oh-la-la-land. You'll find yourself reluctant to spoil the food because of how pretty it is, but spoil it you will, and the decimation will be well worth it. Just before you enter into somnolent bliss, clear your palate with a couple of after-dinner drinks and a cup of coffee. If you foodies and restaurateurs got this far, I hope that you too can find as much pleasure in this culinary adventure as I did. And for the rest of you laymen, start saving up for a ticket to Dijon and a reservation at Restaurant Stéphane Derbord.

This is really 4.5 stars, but who's counting. My wife and I…read morestayed in Dijon for a few days this summer and had our last meal here. It was a great meal. We ordered the 3 course meal, and in hindsight, we wish we had gotten the 2 course version instead. The 3 course one is only 10E more per person so we thought "Why not?" We started of with Kir Royals and then asked the waiter to match wines to the courses and as a result wound up spending about 50E per person on beverages, but it was totally worth it. Our 3 course meal was really more like 6 courses, as the only 3 courses they count are the main appetizer, the fish course and the meat course. They provide several additional courses including another appetizer, a cheese course and two dessert courses. It was more like a 7 course meal. The cheese cart is quite impressive...love the one made with ash! Service and wine selections were great as well. We dressed nicely as we were there for dinner and did not feel out of place. Not sure if that is required or not. It was mostly French diners in the restaurant the night we were there.
