They are open til around 11:30pm at night, and have a wine/beer selection. The menu is a small chalkboard with the daily fresh options of salads, toasted bread w/ toppings, and quiches. The desserts are home made, and looked amazing, but I didn't get the chance to try one. I also want to try the tea selection sometime. They have a real coffee machine, none of the nespresso stuff here. The most expensive options on the lunch menu were around 19 CHF.

The unassuming building in which Au Cheval Blanc is located hides both the beautiful interior, and the gourmet aspirations of the restaurant inside. Because the place is beautiful - old-fashioned without being kitsch at all, with original features highlighted and friendly dark-yellow walls that make it cosy and surprisingly light. The staff are just the same - friendly and welcoming. The food is lovely - I had stuffed and deep fried courgette flowers, followed by Crevette geantes 'facon chef' (giant prawns, served with roasted tomatose and vegetables), and then shared a lime meringue pie with my mum for dessert. All of it lovely and tasty, but a bit oily for me - too much dressing on the salads, too much grease on the deep fried courgette and a bit too much olive oil on my tomatoes. Not enough to spoil them though. And the lime pie was tasty, but not quite what we expected (we were thinking lemon curd, it tasted more like cheesecake). Towards the back of the café there are several doors open to other rooms, looks like storage areas; this definitely takes away from the ambiance. The path to the bathroom is like in a Victorian age motif... looks out of place. While it's not a run down spot at all, it does feel a little tossed together. Now, that being said, for breakfast, we wanted to keep it light because we would be traveling later that afternoon and didn't want to feel heavy making our way to the airport. It was also Easter Sunday, so most places were closed. Easter is a nationally recognized holiday in parts of Europe, so it's treated much like Thanksgiving or Christmas and most stores were closed. Both factors limited our options, but thankfully this coffee shop was open for business. It was located around the corner from where we were staying, so it was really convenient. They offered an array of pastries and coffee options. We ordered the croissant, fruit tart, blueberry & cream cheese muffin. We also ordered a latte complete with latte art! I think of all the pastries, the croissant was my personal favorite. It was flaky & tasted fresh (not sitting out all day). Although there are many other coffee options in the area, this one is worth trying!
