    Harbor Classic Homes

I don't even know where to begin. And to be fair, a lot of the issues we encountered wasn't…read moreentirely Harbor Classic Home's fault, it had to do with the contractor they hired. But, it should be up to them to verify the contractors work. They admitted that they did not and "they feel ashamed." of the shotty work that was done not to code. Some of this also falls on the town building inspector, but that's a different story.... First, our house was supposed to be done and ready to move in and closing was penciled in for May of 2021. Then pushed to June. And continued to be pushed out. At that point, we had already moved out of our original home and pretty much homeless for a couple of months. Contractor kept dragging his feet to finish the little things before getting occupancy permit from the town. Harbor Classic Homes never got involved to helped speed up this process. Very painful experience in more ways than one. Secondly, house had SEVERAL issues. Contractor kept blowing us off, wasn't honoring warranty, wasn't taking issues seriously. $150K in repairs had to be done based on quotes we got, including landscaping pitched towards house, water getting into basement, 8 foot retaining wall not built to code and failing and leaning forward making it dangerous, driveway was not done per the P&S agreement... Had to get a litigation lawyer involved. This got Harbor Classic Homes attention. Ronald Koivu name was on the closing documents, so he got a copy of the demand letter from our lawyer. At first, Ron and Laural seemed legit and they too were concerned about all the issues we outlined in the demand letter from our lawyer. First time we've interacted with them. Eventually, we got most everything resolved, but it was like pulling teeth in most cases. They didn't communicate very well at all, some times a contractor would just show up at the house to work on something without verifying with us first on a date and time and just assumed someone would be home. And when they did schedule a date and time for something, they would blow us off with no warning and then we would have to chase them down again. But, at the end of the day, 3 years later, MOST big ticket items were completed. Thirdly, the driveway. Again, not done per the P&S. They said they would take care of it when everything else was done in case any big equipment to regrade the hard and redo the retaining wall damaged the driveway. We were OK with that, made sense. At this point, driveway was already crumbling and wavy because it was not done correctly, never mind not done per the P&S. They did BARE MINIMUM (if that...) and just patched a few areas, didn't do what we discussed in person, and just showed up and did whatever they wanted to do with out us signing off on the work. Then they said they were done with us and refused to do any more work. (This was last fall.). And the patches are already crumbling less than a year later. (Side note, Miller Paving company did the driveway and report work. One of the owners, before we got lawyer involved, said they admit they did a quick job and not proud of their work, but was under pressure to get tarmac down. Once we got the lawyer involved, Miller completely changed their tune, saying driveway will last years and years and years. Come to find out, they're friends with Ron...). Got our lawyer involved again. He said we still had a case, but had to drop us eventually because of health issues. He recommended a new lawyer. Finally got him involved earlier this year. He said we totally had a case, but talked us out of is because he said more often than not, when people like this say they're done, they're DONE and will take it to court. And even if we did win, they could still not pay up and take their chances. Then we would be out of a ton of money for lawyer fees and court fees and still stuck with a failing driveway that was not done per the P&S. I was still willing to move forward, but, at this point, my wife was going through some serious health issues of her own, so we decided to step away and never went any further and focused on her health and well-being. We got a couple more quotes on our driveway and we're looking at about $40K. It's abut a 500' driveway. Hoping to get another year or 2 out of it if we're lucky. We've heard through the grapevine that this isn't the first time that they've done this to someone, and from the sounds of it, they're still doing this to other people, but can not confirm as it's just word of mouth. But, overall, very painful experience, poor communication, slow to respond, don't honor P&S agreements, huge time suck and emotionally draining.
