I believe I spoke with Rodney himself, who graciously accommodated my request at the last minute and even took my call after hours--something I truly appreciated. Matt did an excellent job and was able to successfully remove makeup stains from a bedroom carpet. He was pleasant, professional, and took the time to answer my questions. He was also very respectful of our home as he worked, which meant a lot to me. The pricing was fair and exactly as quoted, with no surprises. Both Rodney and Matt were friendly, professional, and easy to work with. I would absolutely recommend Rodney's Carpet Cleaning and would gladly use them again.

5/5 Stars -- Absolute perfection! Better than brand new. I…read moream completely blown away by the work Furniture Magicians in Newport News did on my cabinet. They gave it a high-end, classic Pottery Barn look by applying a stunning black matte stain to the exterior, while keeping the original hardware and beautifully cleaning/buffing the original oak interior and shelves. The craftsmanship is pristine, and the contrast looks gorgeous. To top it off, they updated my French country wall clock to match the black matte cabinet perfectly. The turnaround time was incredibly fast (less than 3 weeks). They were professional, gave regular updates, and handled everything with the utmost care. I will definitely call on them again and highly recommend them!

I met Jen (JC Caning) at a festival and even though she was booked until next year she agreed to look at my chair on the weekend. I had very little expectations on how good it would look. I highly recommend Jen.

If you want to get yourself immediately corrected by a CW tradesperson, come into the shoemaker's…read moreshop on DOG Street and either call them cobblers or ask them if they are cobblers. This will likely get at least one of the people working there to stop what they're doing for a moment and go into an explanation of why the two are not the same thing. Thankfully I was not the person on the receiving end of the explanation and it's not like the person on the receiving end was scolded, but it was interesting two days in a row watching someone say the C-word inside the shop and the accompanying reaction it garnered. The day of our most recent visit there were three people working in the shop which may not sound like it would be an issue but everything inside is very small. You can fit maybe eight or nine people tightly before things start to get claustrophobic. Each of the three was working on a different part of an order/project that day for a CW employee. To clarify, a shoemaker of course is the one actually making the shoes whereas the cobbler is the one repairing the shoes. In this shop did they do cobbling in the 18th century? Yes just like they fix shoes now for either themselves or for other CW in costume employees but it's not their primary duty. (Note that the current shoemaker building is not original) The way they are making shoes in this shop right now is very similar to how the process unfolded 200+ years ago. You come into the shop and take note of the display models hanging on the walls and see if there is something to your liking. If there is and if they have your size then you walk out the door with your new shoes right there. If you have an odd size or if you're looking for something a bit more specialized, you place a custom order and the shoes are done in about a day. In 18th century Williamsburg the shoemaking trade was very cuthroat. You had several shops in town along with larger operations where people could buy from cities like Richmond and of course people could always import things from London. Be good, be fast or be done. This wasn't a specialty item like a carriage where only the wealthy could afford it. The average person would be buying four pairs of shoes per year so there was a good amount of business to go around. The below link has way too much info about the historical angle of this trade. www.history.org/foundation/journal/summer00/shoemaker.cfm The shop is currently open 9-5 Wednesday-Sunday and is one of the more interesting trade shops in the historic area.
