I had the same experience as Katie S. Melissa is the worst thing that has ever happened to my hair. I came in as a white/blonde asking for more golden color to my hair and specifically asked for no brown base. What's the first thing she does? She covers my entire head in a brown base and I end up looking mousey. The whole time she kept telling me she knows what she's doing, but she doesn't listen. I think she's so set in her ways (and tired of doing hair) that no matter what you ask for, she's gonna do it her way. read more

I told my boyfriend to go here due to the high rating and booked him an appointment with Michael who had good reviews. The cut wasn't that great. It made my bf look like he was in middle school and he's much older than that. The stylist went too thin with the thinning shears so some hair was too short. One thing is the cut, but what about styling it afterwards? I don't think Michael styled his hair well. My bf looked pretty bad when he came home. The price is very good and they were good on time. read more

Melissa is wonderful. Her shop is cozy and incredibly efficient for its small size. I have very long hair and she expertly cleaned me up for the holidays. read more

This is the place to go if you are: 1) a dude who works in menlo park 2) don't want a barber shop type cut 3) don't want a frufru salon experience 4) want / need flexible and responsive scheduling I am sure M is great for other stuff too, but this is the place I have been looking for over the last 10 years. Melissa gives an awesome haircut at a reasonable price, and its super convenient to Sand Hill Road offices. read more

I don't trust anyone to cut my hair but Nina! She's been cutting my hair for about ten years. I've now lived on the East Coast for the last three years, have *desperately* tried to find a hair dresser I like. Every 6 months or so, I'd do a lot of research to find a great salon, get a bad (and expensive) haircut, then have to wait for my next visit home to family for Nina to repair it. At this point I've given up. I don't care that M Hair Studio is 3,000 miles from where I live, it's worth it! read more

Blonds stay away! BE CAREFUL !!! I went to the HOSPITAL after Melissa's work. I had really beautiful platinum blonde, long hair. For more than 6 years I died my hair. I didn't have any problem with my color and scalp. I moved to Menlo Park 6 months ago. I found this salon with excellent reviews. I made an appointment. Of course, I was confident that I will have good service and perfect result. Melissa promised it to me. I needed only color treatments for my dark brown roots. It's pretty simple treatment, so it's not a problem for a colorist. In addition, I said that I DON'T NEED glaze. It makes my hair dry. She put color on my roots for 40 min. After 20 min I felt burning on my scalp. First time in my life! She helped me in unusual way - she begun to heat up my hair !!! Burning increased. She promised that its ok. After rinse ( it tooks no more than 2-3 min, normal way - 10-15) I had RED ROOTS !!! I was shocked. She didn't react. Her colleague smiled and said that it's ok! Melissa begun dry my hair. She begun to put on WET SCALP blond powder 2nd time. I asked her if it is correct. She said that it's fine. SHE PROMISED THAT I WILL NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM after it. She used white powder. It's absolutely not correct. (Only blue powder must be used on dark roots. ) I had the biggest burning pain on my scalp after 2 min after treatment. ( My scalp was wet and she puts powder with ammonium !!!). I said to Melissa about my severe burning on my scalp several times. She was absolutely calm. Moreover, she began heating up my hair again!!! (What is it??? Maybe she loves torture people. Why ???) I cried -- it did hurt so much! She calmly read magazine. Her colleague enjoyed conversation with another client. Nobody helped me. I asked Melissa about rinsing out my hair maybe 20 times, before she reacted. I asked about special treatment on my scalp after rinsing, because I had tremendous pain. She rinsed my hair for 2 min and put CONDITIONER on scalp for few seconds. Of course, she didn't rinse all powder with ammonium. My roots were steel red. Then, she without asking me, puts GLAZE on my hair!!!!! I said that I CAN'T use glaze. After she just apologized saying that she forgot that I can't use glaze.. I asked again about my burning pain. She said that it is should go away in 15 minutes. I spent in this "salon" over 4 hours. When I come to home my husband was shocked about my ugly red roots. Burning pain increased. I were not able to stop crying. My husband decided take me to the hospital because my scalp and even skin around it were very red and bleeding. The doctor called to Melissa. I gave her card to the doctor. MELISSA DID'T SAY TRUTH TO THE DOCTOR saying that she didn't notice anything. Also, she said that she applied bleaching powered only once! I cancelled all my appointments with friends and I were not able to work more than two weeks. Now, after 1,5 month I lost 70 percent of my hair!!! My scalp is dismounted. I CUT MY LONG HAIR!!! I still crying when I look in the mirror. I spend more than 1500$ for procedures, expensive cosmetics for hair, and treatments to recover a burned scalp. (+ over 12k follow on) -- and no reply from this business at least to apologize for it. Unfortunately, I didn't ask for Melissa's license. I hope that the owner of this "salon" will make the right decision. Even Melissa has fake license, it must be suspended ASAP. This women must stop working!!!!! read more

"Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hairstylist you like." This review is for Nina, who gave me a great haircut recently. She asked me what I want and gave me just that, and was super friendly. On my way out she noticed a few uneven strands and made the adjustments. As for the location, it's super easy to find and parking should not be a huge problem. Cute ambiance in the place, and they're open until 9 on Tuesday nights so us working folks can look good. read more

These ladies are great! I've been seeing Nina for a few months now, and I always leave there feeling so much better than when I walked in. She always takes the time to ask me what I want, and lately I've been wanted a change every time I go in and she always suggests new ways to freshen up my hair. I've had both cut and color from her now, and continue to be impressed with her work, and I get compliments all the time on my hair. Never been disappointed and can't wait to go back! Nina and Melissa are both very sweet and friendly, chatty and knowledgable about what they are doing. Their salon is small and cozy, and it's nice that its not big or crowded or impersonal. Easy parking, and good hours (open on Saturdays!). read more

Well, its another year and my hair continues to look and feel fabulous! Melissa has never disappointed. Now my two teen daughters are also going to Melissa and very happy. My older daughter had her hair cut short for the 1st time in her 18 yrs (she was born with hair and we just let it grow, with occasional trims.) She left for college with a new do and full of confidence. She and I both have very fine, straight hair. My middle daughter is a complete opposite. She has extremely curly, thick hair. And Melissa cut and styled her hair perfectly! Melissa can do it all! read more

Melissa is by far the BEST at what she does and I am super excited that she now owns her own salon! She has been cutting my hair for as long as I remember, she is great with all types of hair as well. Even if you have long hair like me (and are always not sure what to do with a hair cut) she will give you the perfect look. All the stylist here are great and I recomend every one of them! read more

This review is for Meli McNeil at M Hair Studio. Meli is so personable and talented and I feel great entrusting my hair to her. I was actually a hair dye virgin when I sat in her chair for the first time, but was ready for a change. I wasn't very good at articulating what I thought I wanted, but Meli was very patient and intuitive in helping me explain, and transformed my hair with beautiful, natural-looking blonde highlights and a fresh haircut. I love that she provides complimentary bang trims and is available for evening appointments one night per week. The salon environment is cozy and welcoming, and free nearby parking is a plus, too! I will trust Meli for my regular hair maintenance, and for whenever I'm ready to try out a new look. Thanks Meli! read more

Awesome experience - I had called several salons in need of a last minute highlight as my previous stylist had cancelled my appointment due to her being sick. I still needed my hair rescued badly and Melissa called back. She said at first they didn't have anything open on Saturday but would let me know if anyone cancelled. I then got a call shortly after saying she could squeeze me in. I gladly accepted after reading all the great reviews I knew even if it was rushed the outcome would be likely good. I was right... I have to say this was one of the fastest and best salon experiences I've ever had. Partial highlights and a layer refresh in 90 minutes? Wow! My hair looks and feels amazing. This boutique salon is very relaxing, clean and comfortable as well - highly recommended! read more

M Hair Studio is an adorable shop right across the street from the Dutch Goose. The shop is tiny, but so warm and inviting you feel like you're visiting in someone's living room. Melissa has been cutting my hair ever since I moved to Menlo Park. She's so sweet, and a great hair stylist. She listens to what you want and I always look great when I walk out. If you're looking for a new stylist, try Melissa--you won't regret it! read more

Melissa has been doing my hair for a few years now. Before I found her I went through a few hairdressers that always seemed to have a problem with my long hair. You see, I have pretty thick hair and every time to get it highlighted it gets a little tangled and it's hard for most hairdressers to work with. I've had one roll their eyes at me, another worked really hard to convince me to cut it, I was just made to feel uncomfortable instead of being able to relax and enjoy my "me" time while I get my hair done. From the start Melissa never said a word. She made me feel comfortable and has always been very easy to talk to. The best part is that she does a fantastic job. If you're looking for a new salon and hair dresser, give Melissa a try. You will not be disappointed. read more

Melissa is awesome, always willing to do whatever I ask, even if it is sometimes a little out there. Ask her about the "Sharks Special". ;) Even with my odd requests, she makes it look great! Everyone there is a lot of fun to talk to, and really good people. Oh, and they can style a hair or two too! Great quality and great pricing. Best hair stylist I've ever had! The salon is great! There's parking in the back, and it's easy to get to. read more

My regular stylist suddenly left her salon right before my wedding. I was in panic. Nina had an opening and did an excellent job with my color and cut. I am not her clients and it is five minute walk from my house. She is very flexible with times. read more

I highly recommend M Hair Studio. Melissa is professional, kind and completely focused on you and your hair. Her cuts are excellent!!!

Melissa did a touch up hair color for me and it was a great experience. She was kind enough to fit me into her busy schedule as I desperately needed a touch up to look good for an event that night. I love the color she used and the glaze made my hair softer and shinier than it's been since I started dying it. Her brush rollout made me look fabulous. I didn't need a haircut but will definitely return to her when I do. read more

My long time hair stylist moved and I was left to find another person who was good with blondes. I scheduled an appointment with Melissa, who happens to be the owner. Long story short- my highlights looked great, my cut turned out really cute, and my hair felt soft and looked healthy. I will be returning! read more

Melissa is awesome. Does a great job cutting hair on guys as well. Gets the job done really nicely, is reliable, fun to chat with. She's a pro. read more

I followed Melissa over from her previous salon, and I'm very very glad that I did! M Hair Studio is totally professional, from the moment you contact them (hooray, a business that answers its emails!). They've been fantastically flexible about scheduling, even for last-minute child-related issues. Melissa always does a great job on my cuts and colors. When I said, "Cut it all off and make it blonde!" she made very, very sure that *I* was sure and we spent a few days testing out the chemicals on my hair before taking the plunge. I trust her judgment - she's never let me down. I'll be using M Hair Studio exclusively for a long time to come. read more

Melissa is a really terrific hair stylist and highly recommend her. She has consistently given me the best haircuts I have ever had -- and my hair is difficult -- very fine and thin. I was living in the in the Palo Alto area for a year, and started going to her then (at the time, she worked at Textures). Since returning to my home in Santa Barbara I haven't found anyone else who is as good as Melissa -- so for the last two years I've been driving to Menlo Park to get my haircut ! I just went to her new studio in Menlo Park and it is really nice. read more

One again, M Studio delivers a quality styling for the male client. I am always impressed with the quality of service and professionalism of the staff. The value they deliver solid and results speak for themselves. TY again for quality style. read more

Melissa is amazing. She's the first hair stylist I've met in the last 5 years that can actually cut curly hair well. In the past, I've had to deal with a few weeks of an awkward looking haircut because the barber/stylist had no idea on how to cut curly hair. Highly recommend getting your hair cut by Melissa - great experience and quality work! read more
