UPDATE 2:
After many months of calling, texting etc., M&S finally responds, UNANNOUNCED, and 'Mac' wants to know what "the problem" is! He starts off with "Why didn't you call ME?" Which was odd since I had been dealing with his son all along and which I HAD called multiple times. I walked the entire area where asphalt was put down, inspecting together to show what poor work that was done, from settling of different areas, to impressions where the car would be parked overnight! To showing cracks and finally the large areas where the asphalt had and is still crumbling. He kept repeating, "Why didn't you call ME?
The solution? Mac gave me his word that he would come back, remove a portion of the driveway immediately in front of the garage and put a 2" layer over the entire driveway. He informed me that the quarry where he gets the asphalt is currently closed and as soon as it opens, he will be back to resolve the issues. He extends his hand to shake indicating his commitment to correcting the issues and drives away.
I was happy that it would finally be resolved even though it was over a year. But as I waited and waited and waited, and... you guessed it! It was another no show. I called again, and texted again and this is the response:
Mac: "My son said there is nothing wrong with the driveway. He makes all the decisions now."
(How convenient) When I texted the son, his response was:
"There's nothing wrong with the driveway, I'll seal coat it for you at no charge, but I'm not repaving it!". 'I make the decisions, not my father'.
(Of course, why would you offer to sealcoat the driveway at no charge unless (1.) You know the paving job was inferior and want to make the customer feel that by giving you something free, this will compensate for the poor work, and you won't say anything, or (2.) You want to seal over and hide the crumbling, soft, unproperly laid and rolled asphalt so that it is no longer visible and therefore cannot be noticed. And why would the 'father' who continually would state: "why didn't you call ME?" if he did not have the authority to make decisions for the company? This unprofessionalism by a company that boasts of so many years in business yet would be so unwilling to correct their poor job speaks volumes to their work ethics and character.
In the meantime, pictures will be posted of the job on www.ms-4asphalt.com. You may wish to look at the "Quality" job of which there is supposedly 'nothing wrong with' in the words of Mac, and judge for yourself. You'll realize that sweeping off the crumbling driveway will literally result in just that....sweeping off the driveway.
UPDATE 3:
Noticing that a neighbor was having their driveway seal coated, I was solicited by that company to have mine done. It led to a discussion about the poor job of paving on mine to which they stated that their company would never have done the job in the manner that was done on mine. They pointed out many faults M&S did, which only confirmed the above review.
BOTTOM LINE
Poor communication, Poor equipment, Poor service, Poor quality, Poor tactics to weasel out of the responsibility to correct the poor work. And lastly, left with a 'brand new' 50-year-old driveway that needs replacement. read more
