My elderly mother is a resident of St. Louis Park and was confronted with a serious land dipping which lead to terribly large sink hole, unleveled landscaping, improper relief and consequential water drainage issues. This issue happened over the past 20 years. I had stepped into help mom find a contractor to fix the issues. We solicited 4 different bids and wound up choosing these folks. Rupert's bid was not the lowest one in the group. They were in the middle. But the owner Jake impressed me so much with his candor and attentiveness to what we wanted done that he was impossible to overlook. We were also clearly not a big money-making gig for Rupert's. They do mostly paver patio work and stylish retaining walls. But our issue was something Jake said they could address and they were able to squeeze us into an already tight schedule. Jake arrived with a small crew of 3 and finished the job in the amount of time he said the job would take. He used all of the materials and had no remnant soil. He actually saved us some money on the delivery fees by consolidating land materials into one type. Most important, they fixed the issue in my mom's backyard and left our property without any mess. Through it all we were made to feel just as important as any larger account. I have posted a few before and after pictures. If you can get on their calendar, I would recommend Rupert's Landscaping. I called to inquire if this company worked with areas of a yard where pavers had shifted over many years and were becoming hazardous to walk on. A third company had over reacted by my needs and kept stopping by when I was not home. Rupert's returned my call, we set up a specific meeting time and the owner Jake came to see the area that needed to be repaired. He suggested different ideas that I might consider and assured me that he could re-use the existing pavers, a significant cost savings for me! Jake and his team of 3 total men would remove the patio and walkway of pavers, reinforce "no shifting" with a border around the whole project, followed up by sweeping with a poly sand to keep pavers in place and weeds out. His team arrived as planned, began to work immediately and explained the steps they would be taking. Throughout the day they were diligent in their work and very knowledgeable of how to complete the task safely and efficiently. The project was completed in one day thanks to the heart and soul of these three individuals. Jake suggested my using a dark shade of mulch that would make the patio and walkway stand out....great idea as I have already had three neighbors ask for his company phone number. Third, I sat in my lawn chair and watched the entire installation of my new driveway. The personal pride and attention to every little detail was amazing. The entire crew appeared to be "perfectionists". The roller operator must have gone over the driveway 10-12 times. He even got off his machine once to hand pick-up small pieces of asphalt that had gotten on the top skirt of the driveway. Fourth, my neighbor got a new driveway a few days later by a different company. I asked him if he would share how much he paid. It was $3,100 more than I paid for about the same sized driveway! I originally had a…read moreconsultation set up for Saturday (and had scheduled my day around making sure to be at my house during the scheduled time), and was called 1 hour ahead of the appointment to be told that Greg would not be able to make it on time. I understand that delays happen and wasn't super broken up about it, so I called the offices and had the appointment rescheduled for 3:30 on Sunday. Come Sunday, Greg calls to confirm the appointment. We confirmed that the appointment was made for 3:30, but I had a flexible schedule so I let him know that if later works for him then we could meet at that time, though the 3:30 time would also work if he preferred. He suggested meeting at 4, which was completely agreeable to me. Indeed, at 4 he came by and said hello while I was speaking with my tenants out front. The conversation was to inform them about a worker who would be replacing the locks in their apartment and to nail down some leasing details, so I told Greg I would meet him in the back yard shortly. At 4:05 (according to my phone), I went to the back and Greg was nowhere to be found. I circled the property looking, to no avail. At this point (approximately 4:07) I called his cell, and he very curtly informed me that I "made a mistake by making him wait", and to "not call the company ever again". In Summary: American Landscaping cancelled the initial consultation session for the originally scheduled day, was allotted another 30 minute extension for the rescheduled appointment, and then drove off without a word when I had the audacity to take 5 minutes to complete a conversation with my tenants. This behavior is confusingly unprofessional.

Unfortunately we had another water event at our home this year. This time it was in our basement. A…read moreline on our water softener failed. That sent a lot of water into our newly remodeled bathroom, hallway, and laundry room. We had recently been inspired by watching Renovation 911 which is a new renovation show on HGTV based here in MN. It was this inspiration that led us to contact them. Aaron came out right away and accessed our situation. He advised us that the water had gone under the floor into these other rooms and hallway. Aaron was able to remove our sink and floor in the bathroom, pull up some carpet and cut out some drywall. He then set up fans and equipment to start the drying process. I believe her name was Kathy, then came out a few times including on the weekend to check the status of the drying process. Once everything was dried, I advised Aaron that we would like their team to also handle the rebuild. Aaron referred me to Drew who contacted our insurance agent and assigned our file to Mark G. This is where everything went downhill. For the next 30 days, 30 days, I emailed, called and texted Mark. Sometimes he replied, sometimes he didn't. When he did, he would say that he was waiting for something from our insurance. So I would call my insurance agent, he advised me everything had been approved. I would then go back to Mark who said he still was waiting for information. After 30 days of confirming with our insurance and repeated attempts to contact Mark, we figured they had other projects that were more important. I again contacted my insurance agent and requested that the approved amount be sent to me. I then advised Drew and Mark that we would be going in a different direction. We did our own research, and about two weeks later we had the carpet installed, the bathroom floor, sink and vanity installed, and the drywall completed. Clearly it seems that our business was not important to them, however we are very thankful to the companies that cared enough to help us complete our project.

I had been a customer for over 7 years. Last week I tried starting my sprinkler system. There…read morewere parts lying on the ground and a cracked plastic top by the system shut offs. The system was not working. Everything was working fine until Best Irrigation winterized my system last fall. I called the company and they told me there must be damage from the freeze that had happened. This damage was not communicated to me, noted in the service techs notes, nor anything said about any damage that could have happened because of the freeze. The parts were lying on the ground and parts were obviously broken. The service tech told me everything went fine. If parts were lying on the ground and cracked parts, then there was obvious damage and it should have been communicated. If I knew there was damage I would have scheduled an appointment. The lack of communication is unacceptable and I will be finding a new irrigation company. I spoke to Best Irrigation and they did not want to remedy or help fix the problem.

This added $606 to the bill. They were prompt and professional. The system works great now. It only took them (2 men) 3 hours to do everything! they make it impossible to separate their labor rate from parts and supplies. my $1650 invoice for 3 hours work was difficult to take, But they were very good at their work and very efficient also. My system works like it should again, proving the adage You get what you pay for!
