Macia Condor - Hotel Macia Condor

    Macia Condor

Macia Condor is apparently rated a 4 star hotel. Not sure how old the star rating is because the…read morehotel, while charming, doesn't measure up to 4 star hotels I've been to around the world. From outside and the lobby, the hotel looks plenty nice. But once you go up the ancient elevator to your floor, you'll notice everything being faded and worn. The furniture, beds, bathroom, heating/cooling system are all very dated -- probably vestiges from the 70s or 80s. While the hotel accommodations weren't very modern, at least they were clean. My friend and I stayed overnight in Cordoba and chose the hotel for its proximity to the train station [about a 15 minute walk]. I actually had found this hotel randomly online through Google Maps as Macia Condor as I was searching for hotels near the train station. I was able to book a room on Orbitz with a 15% coupon, so my stay was pretty cheap ($57 for one night). So even though the hotel was more comparable to a 2 star hotel, I was still satisfied with my stay since my friend and I didn't shell a lot of money for the room. One of my biggest gripes about the room is that the air conditioning system doesn't seem to work very well -- it's not either turn ON or OFF, with no real way to adjust the coolness. Since my friend and I were visiting in the summer, the room got pretty hot. The Macia Condor is also close by the Plaza de Isabel, which is where you can catch the C3 Bus to the Alhambra. The walk from Macia Condor to Plaza de Isabel is about 10-15 minutes by foot along Gran Via (a great stroll with beautiful buildings, which is surprisingly temperature cool, even in the summer). And from Plaza de Isabel, it's about a 15-20 minute bus ride (depending on traffic/how many passengers to pick up, etc) to the Alhambra [fare = 1.20 euros]. The Macia Condor served our purposes by providing a cheap accommodation which was conveniently near the train station, Plaza de Isabel (and by corollary, the Alhambra). Similarly, like most other hotls, the Macia Condor was also able to hold our luggage while we were exploring the city/Alhambra in the day time too. Overall, the hotel is a solid 3 star budget hotel providing clean but dated rooms that is conveniently located to transportation that will connect you throughout the city and to the rest of Espana. Ole!

This was one of few options during Semana Santa, and I can see why it was left with available rooms when everywhere else was booked. I appreciate Spain's conservation efforts but the "nicer" the hotel we stayed at (in terms of their accredited stars), the worse they were about being stingy with towels and air conditioning. I missed getting a photo of it, but there was a conservation guilt-trip note in the bathroom here. I've seen this other places in the world over the past decade. It's really beat by now--I conserve a lot in my home life and while in vacation, I don't need guilt trips. As with many hotels, when you're in your room and insert your key to turn on electricity, only then will your AC activate. It would go for a while and then turn itself off, and stay off! By the middle of the night, our room was so uncomfortably hot i woke up over and over, and had a terrible night's sleep both nights of our stay. Additionally, there was construction nearby that woke us up at 8:45am despite needing to sleep in due to the horrible night's sleep from their stingy AC. Enjoy your knees banging against the wall to sit on the toilet. It is like 9" away from the wall crammed into a space smaller than a phone booth! I also had to crawl my hands up the wall like Spider-Man every time I stood up. The window opened completely allowing multiple adults to fall out at once. No screen nor guardrails nor device to limit how far open it goes. This is a huge safety concern with children and we were on the SIXTH FLOOR! There was also some weird way they made the beds so that the sheet and blanket didn't line up and you had to undo the entire bed to get access to covers, which then undid the non-fitted bottom sheet that would slide around and get caught up in a mess. Just thoroughly unpleasant. Sheets and rug were stained in multiple places. They'll probably say that's saving the planet. Pros? The hotel staff were friendly, it was in a central location, and the fridge was a decent temp. We didn't bother to ask for AC assistance because we wasted a lot of time getting nowhere at a similar hotel in Cordoba (it's a fixed system to do this), and even the Parador we stayed at in Cazorla was the same bs with AC going off in the middle of the night to cook you out of bed every unpleasant morning. Put your damn AC on all night and leave it on!!! It's hardly going to kill the planet if you add 4 more hours of AC! We couldn't wait to check out!

David, a front desk attendant, was super friendly and gave us super helpful recommendations for modes of transportation, restaurants, and other activities. And he was just always warm, kind, and patient with our many requests. Juan, one of the waiters during breakfast time, was always so patient and timely with our requests. We kind of felt we established relationships with the staff at the end. The hotel is beautiful. You feel like you are in Spain in the hotel. The plaza is so peaceful to have a meal or just to relax. The are several beautiful rooms and the hotel has a interesting history. The rooms are comfortable. I liked the bathroom because it's spacious and the bed was super comfortable. The only thing to consider is that only one hotel room has an outdoor space. We had dinner and breakfast. The dinner was good. Food was somewhat flavorful but again, the ambiance is fantastic and relaxing. Service was warm, patient, and timely. This is one of the few breakfast places nearby that provides comprehensive choices and an American style breakfast. The breakfast is tasty. The price includes both a buffet and menu choices. The only slight concern is the breakfast is approximately $30 per person which is very expensive compared to other options in the area and outside the area. I strongly recommend for any visitor to Granada to consider this hotel.

How many can say they stayed at such a historic place? Loved our room overlooking the courtyard. Was quiet even though we were on the main thoroughfare. We would definitely stay here again!

The location is very close to a lot of restaurants and Cathedral. One of the bus stops for the Airport is also a couple minutes away. We arrived before our room was ready, so we were able to leave our luggage and come back. Before we left, the lady at the front desk went over the map with us in great detail, pointing things out, showing us where to catch the bus, and so on. She also showed us to the 'living room' on the fifth floor, which has some couches, tables and magazines. But the highlight is the patio, which has a view over the city facing the Alhambra. There are also a few tables and chairs outside, so it would be a great place to read or catch up on writing in your travel journal, or just to relax. Our room was big, our bed was big, and our bathroom was big. We both had a good sleep that night. We paid in advance when we booked and got 15% off the room. We had to leave early in the morning before breakfast started, but they do offer it for 6,95 EUR per person. Like I said, we were only in Granada for one night, but the location seemed great and quite it would be quite easy to get anywhere you wanted to, or there is lots to do in that area as well. The reception staff also ordered a cab for us in the evening to take us to the airport the next morning. The only negative about that was, as she was telling us our options, she said the aiport bus took 45 minutes, and a cab also took 45 minutes. In reality the cab only took 15 minutes, so we could have gotten that little bit of extra sleep in the morning!

Situated on a sprawling lot amid a bustling avenue lined with shops and office buildings, Hospes…read morePalacio de los Patos is a beautiful hotel reminiscent of a historic 19th-century building...because it is! A careful renovation of an old palace has crafted a charming estate with picturesque balconies, stately fountains, and elegant furnishings, though its amenities are modern, sleek, and state-of-the-art. We checked into Hospes Palacio de Los Patos on a Thursday afternoon for our one-night stay - the lobby was quiet, and we were immediately greeted by the hotel's concierge, who spoke fluent English as well as Spanish. She pointed out some of the city's popular tourist attractions (namely la Alhambra and the Albaicín neighborhood), and then guided us to our rooms, which were located in a separate building. You can either take an elevator down and walk underground through a tunnel beneath the two buildings, or walk through an outdoor plaza with a bar to access the hotel's restaurant and elevators to the rooms. We had booked two rooms - one with a queen-sized bed, and another with two full-sized beds. The rooms are bright with natural light and have large windows overlooking the plaza area between the buildings. Everything is very modern, but we found that some of the room's amenities prioritized style over substance - for example, the showers were beautiful, but didn't drain well, as there's no slope for the water to drain into, the bathtubs were oddly shaped and not very functional, and the state-of-the-art door locking system didn't always work, leaving us locked out of our rooms on multiple occasions. However, the complimentary white wine, chocolates, and mixed nuts we were provided were a plus! We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, but it looks like an upscale option with a wide variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as room service. You also receive a complimentary hour's use of their spa/sauna - I didn't take advantage of this, though the rest of my family members said that it was quite luxurious! Additionally, when our flight to Barcelona was canceled before we checked out, we were very impressed with how our concierge booked us on a train to Barcelona within fifteen minutes. We were impressed with how efficient and professional she was! Apart from the minor technical difficulties and the fact that it's definitely on the pricier side, we really enjoyed our stay at Hospes Palacio de Los Patos - the building is beautiful and in a great location, service is absolutely stellar, and I would say that it's worth the splurge if you're looking for an upscale hotel in the area.
