Lyppens is a shop I came to know from one of my favorite vintage jewelry websites, so when the Mr & I knew we'd be coming to Amsterdam for the weekend, I marked this as a destination stop, so I could check out their offerings in person
Well, I think I'd built it up in my mind to be much more than it was in real life because it did not meet my expectations at all
There is a man-trap to get into the place so I assumed we'd be looking at high-end pieces. ( There were no signed high-end pieces that I could see )
The shop was extremely small but there is a lot of jewelry to behold. Unfortunately, the displays are jumbled together & the pieces seemed to be thrown on the tray ( no presentation ) & as a result, everything just seemed old & unpolished & unloved.
A specific ring I had seen online was not out for display but when I inquired about it, they went to the back & got it out for me. But after I tried it on, I felt like I was surrounded by their staff on the off-chance I might try to run off with it.......which would have been impossible since A - I'm not that kind of person & B - please see above reference to man-trap
Prices are extremely high & while they will negotiate the cost, we never got to that point. I had advised the person helping me that I wanted to go think about the ring - which turned out to be antique-style & not a true antique. She advised me we could discuss price when I got back
But how will I know if I even want to come back if I don't know what your best price is - it would have helped me in the thinking process if I had had a firm figure in mind
And with the info I was presented, I did not feel the need to return.....so yeah, I've experienced better read more
