It introduces myself and my family to different foods available throughout Montana. We enjoy cooking our family favorites with locally grown foods. In the two years we have been coming, we have come to love so many wonderful products that keeps us coming back for more each week. We love alfalfa honey (only honey I absolutely love) from Drange Apiary in Laurel, MT. We love us some Flathead Cherries. We love the jalapeno cheddar and Hawaiian brats, meat sticks and summer sausages from Ranch House Meat Market. We like jalapeno & herb tortillas from Trevino's Tortillas, Inc. We love the zucchini and chokecherry lemonade from Burnt Bean Ranch. We like creamed honey from Becky's Berries. We enjoy Japanese garlic from Garlic Montana. Donuts from Heiko Bakery. We've enjoyed asian food from Boardwok, Khantalys and Oriental Express. We love the Nut Shack products! So addictive! We've tried tamales from Montana Tamales. We've tried a variety of teas from Tea City. We enjoy kettle corn from Don's Kettle Corn. Yummy chocolate covered strawberries and chocolates from Brockel's Chocolates. Salsa from Kenny's DD Salsa. Fresh produce from Martindale Colony. Each week we look forward to trying something new. Thank you to all the vendors for coming together to offer all of this Montana goodness!

I first came across Swanky Roots at the Farmers Market on the West End. After seeing all the…read moredifferent kinds of lettuce, and being impressed with how good it was, I decided to visit their greenhouse and see what else might be there. While social distancing rules have suspended the in-person tours, you can still peek through the window from the main shop and see the rows of hydroponics. Inside the shop are coolers with various types of lettuce or herbs, and the availability depends on what is ready for harvest. It won't be the same thing every visit. In addition, Swanky Roots carries product and general knickknacks from local places. I've tried two of the different types of lettuce, the Butter and the Oakleaf, and some of the tomatoes. I can see why the Butter lettuce is popular -- the name suits it, for being a very smooth lettuce, almost like spinach, but without that slight bitterness. The tomatoes -- perhaps it wasn't a fair comparison -- but I had some tomatoes from the market and some from Swanky Roots. Aw geez, there was simply no comparison. I could make the argument they were two different kinds of tomato and that's why the taste was so different, but realistically, I don't think that would even explain it. The Swanky roots tomato actually had some flavor. If you see any Swanky Roots produce, take a chance and give them a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

This family owned operation is an amazing resource for the Billings community. You can pick up fresh greens at their storefront, or you can also get their greens at Lucky's Market and the Billings Produce Depot. The owner is super kind and knowledgeable. Maybe you don't love eating your greens, but you will once you try Swanky Roots!!!

The more I stop here, the better I like it. Or I thought I did. My experiences have been all…read moreover the place: sometimes good, sometimes bleechh. This is not a store for one on a strict budget, but if you follow their ads and can shop their sales you can do well enough for a splurge or two. I agree with some of the other reviewers about the produce. It's hit or miss. The last few times, it's been good, at least early on the weekend. As the week goes on, the quality gets less. Shopping here is a matter of timing I've come to learn. With all that said, though, there are some good organic options in nearly every category, including the vitamin section. What has impressed me are the employees, with a few exceptions, they are friendly and helpful when I'm looking for something particular. I've tried a few of the store branded things, most of them are just as good as similar branded items. The natural cleaning products for instance, the glass cleaner, is good and doesn't have that vinegar or ammonia smell. That stuff makes up for some of the other less than stellar products. The store-branded non-GMO, organic, nuts and alternative flours are also winners. Natural Grocers has an impressive library/catalog or whatever you want to call it, in the back corner with information available on supplements, minerals, food and ingredient guides, and the like with a cross references. It's like having a compendium without having to buy multiple books to get the same information. From time to time they offer classes on healthy eating in their test kitchen in the back. Although Covid has put a halt to the test kitchen food preparation classes, according to the employees, those classes will be coming back at some point.
