I showed them a picture, and while my hair was still too short for the style they still helped me out. They trimmed my hair to prepare it to grow into the style as well as recommend me products and gave my advice on how to style it when my hair is long enough. A few weeks later and it was time for prom, my hair grew into the right length and was ready to be styled. After following the advice I was able to achieve the style I wanted perfectly and it was ready for prom. Since they helped me out on a special occasion, I will remember this place fondly even if I'm not able to regularly frequent it anymore.

The last place I went to overcharged me and only dyed the top 3/4 of my hair (not close to the roots). Gene was the exact opposite: he took his time on each strand of hair (a perfectionist), was incredibly attentive, and told me what he was doing each step of the way. The salon is run by a couple (Gene and Mariam) and they are such funny, kind, and patient people. They made the salon experience so much more comfortable, especially given that the balayage process took ~5 hours. The pricing is also really reasonable, compared to other places I've been. I clearly explained that I wanted an electric blue colour and even showed him multiple reference photos. He told me he understood my vision and said he could achieve it. The next day I had my appointment. He started bleaching my hair at 3:08 PM and didn't wash the bleach out until 6:57 PM. After the first round of bleach he told me he had reached the colour needed for the blue I wanted, and I was very happy. However, he then told me he was planning to do a blue-black colour. I immediately told him that if it was going to be blue-black, I wanted it lighter instead. He reassured me that he could still achieve the lighter blue. After the second round of bleach, he applied a very vibrant purple dye. I was extremely confused, and even the friends I was on the phone with at the time were confused because purple was never part of the plan. When I asked him about it, he told me to "trust him," which I did because he is supposed to be a specialist. When we were waiting, I asked about the price and he said it would be $450, which already seemed very high to me. Then when we went to wash my hair, he immediately started brushing it while it was wet. My hair stayed a bright purple and I started to panic. When I touched it, it felt like elastic and was extremely damaged. I started crying and told him I did not want him touching my hair anymore because it was clearly ruined. Despite completely damaging my hair, he still demanded payment and would not let me leave until I paid something. He even blocked the way and blamed the damage on me, saying I caused it myself. I have been dyeing my hair since I was 13 years old and I have NEVER experienced damage like this from any stylist until now. I did NOT want purple hair, and I definitely did not want hair that feels like elastic and is completely destroyed. This experience was incredibly upsetting and unprofessional. I ran into some of the women who work here at the women's show a few months ago and had gotten the curl keeper product from them- Janine to be specific (I didn't remember her name from the show) I was very impressed with Janine's professionalism, she wasn't pushy at all and took the time to explain the products to me. I took a business card but their location was a little far from where I used to work and where I live. I was googling top 10 curl hair salons, and this one popped up in my search and then I realized it was walking distance from where I now work so I decided to give them a try - I had called in and to my surprise they had an opening with a intermediate stylist so I decided to take it. When I got to the location I realized it was Janine and I was very happy! Janine was very patience with me, she took the time to not only understand what I wanted but also to explain to me what she was doing and why she was doing it. She took the time to teach me how to curl my hair properly so I could enhance my natural curls. She even promised me that my hair would look just as great straight as it does curly - and it absolutely does!!!! Not going to lie, I was very sceptical with that comment because my hair dresser before told me the same thing, reversed though- that my hair would look good naturally as it does when I straightened it - however it never did! overall - I will give Janine a 5 start because of the effort she put in with me. I heard about Studio Fontana on a Facebook group. The lady quoted me a price under $130 for dye, cut and style. When I arrived at the salon they were behind schedule. The lady met me and was really friendly. She then began to do my hair. After she washed out the dye I noticed my roots were still very dark and I asked her some questions about my hair. She then revealed, she used a temporary dye on my hair (what??? Are you kidding me!!) and she is going to charge me more to re-dye my hair because she will now have to use more dye and it will come out of her pocket. Okay, so now I'm being charged for her mistake?? If she did it right the first time, I wouldn't be in this situation. No salon has ever used temporary dye on my hair. Now, instead of leaving at a normal hour, I was stuck waiting for her to finish my hair until midnight. During the 6 hours I was stuck at this salon I was famished. I wanted to eat dinner but could not because I was sitting in the salon. I also didn't want to eat dinner at midnight since it was time for me to schlep home and go to bed. Any who, my hair looked good when I left the salon but the next day something glorious happened. After I went in the shower (the stylist said this was okay) the dye ran out of my hair and I had no more dye in my hair. My hair faded in one wash! Was this really permanent dye? I was called by my stylist and had my hair washed, that went fine. The issue was when he asked me what I would like done. I showed him a refrence image and told him I wanted shoulder-length layers. He verbally said "Layers?" and I went "Yes, layers". I specifically asked for layers becasue my hair tends to be flat so I need the volume. I ended up with my hair cut all one length, and significantly longer than shoulder length. I did notice that it didn't look right, but he had been cutting my hair for like an hour and a half at that point (which is way too long to cut hair one length) and I had prior engagments after my appointment so I decided to just leave it because I physically could not sit in that chair any longer. To be fair, the cut was done alright and he styled it really nicely, I am just really confused because he knew what I wanted done, we both acknowledged it verbally, and he gave me something that was literally the complete opposite of what I asked for, and took forever doing it.
