What Myri does well: 1. She has experience with kid's parties. There were definitely things that she thought of that I didn't. For example, there was a certain playdough favor set that I wanted to purchase for the kids, but she recommended against it due to the choking hazard for kids my son's age. That was very, very appreciated. 2. The event went smoothly. Myri left her assistant with us, and Kat made sure everything ran on schedule and that the food/drink station was constantly refilled. It was also great to be able to show up at our event and not have to worry about set-up or break-down. This peace-of-mind alone made hiring Myri worth it. Things that I expected more of given the price of her services: 1. I expected Myri to be more responsive to correspondence and to provide more updates on the status of the planning. I did appreciate that she was cognizant of this and apologized for her slower follow-up during her busy holiday months. Still, I would have appreciated this being communicated to me upfront or perhaps receiving even just an automated email response stating that things were busy and that she would get back to emails as soon as she could. 2. While I appreciated Myri doing walkthroughs of venues on my behalf when I was not available, something happened at the first walkthrough that resulted in the host canceling on us stating that his space was 'not appropriate' for the type of event we wanted to host, despite previously having been on board with a kids' birthday party. While I think there was some sort of misunderstanding, this put me back to square one in terms of finding a suitable venue and forced me to forgo an affordable venue that I had already spent a significant amount of time vetting. The venue I ended up booking was almost two times the cost of the first venue. In hindsight, I - as a client - may not have been suited to work with an event planner like Myri. I feel like the ideal client for Myri is someone who is very hands-off, has a large budget, wants only to make a few decisions here or there, and show up on the day of the event. I personally wanted to be more involved with the planning and know when things were getting done/next steps/to-dos, so for me it was stressful working with Myri and not knowing what to expect, particularly in the days leading up to the event.

Not my type of venue for a wedding as I got more the 'spooky house' feeling from it, but definitively for some classic concert (I read they do that) and costume parties, etc. The gardens are not huge but really nicely tended and there is a labyrinth and roses of several types. Communication was great leading up to our event and on the actual day of my party, Lisa was on time and worked efficiently to get the balloons setup for the birthday before our scheduled start time. Lisa and her partner were very kind and pleasant to work with. When they came to pick up the balloons after the event, she made take down look so easy and there was no mess since all balloons were popped into a garbage bag. Lisa even gave some of he balloons away to kids who were asking for them. Lisa showed up on time the day of, and she got the balloons setup in under an hour. She set them up on Saturday, May 27 and I just now took them down on Monday, June 5! Toast came back mid range on pricing but by far the best in terms of what they included and also what wasn't included. What they were able to include was coordination and delivery of rentals (plates, flatware, chairs, tables, etc.) and what they didn't include is a ton of unnecessary and frankly extremely expensive fees that other companies did. Another "right off the bat" win was how communicative and professional Alicia was. When we started going back-and-forth on email, she called me to clarify my needs and understand my vision. That allowed her to give me a much more customized quote that included all the foods that I liked instead of a cookie cutter version of a menu that was suited to somebody else's tastes. Most other companies were giving me menus with shellfish and prime rib, neither of which I wanted on my menu. After settling on the menu, the rest of the process with Toast was so easy. They took care of all the coordination with my venue directly, organizing all the load in and load out details. Day of, I showed up to staff who was prepared, competent, and went above and beyond to make sure my guests were taken care of. I wish I knew the name of one of the servers who was hands-down the best server I've ever worked with. He somehow knew my brother was the vegan, and brought him his plate right when everyone else was going through the buffet. He also had noticed a guest was not drinking and brought them a cup of the alcohol free drink to their place. One guest asked for a wine that was not on the table and he made an effort to go to the bar and get that for them. Just fantastic! Quality of food was also impressive. He didn't forget what the wedding couple wanted. He didn't let our family members steamroll over him. Come wedding day, I was hiding in a room somewhere w my husband away from the crowd and Chris secretly fed us signature cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. During reception, he had plates assembled for us so that we wouldn't go hungry. At the end of the night, his team packed us food to go!! Chris and his designer shoes were a godsend. The Chef too was absolutely amazing and gracious with the multiple changes our family made to the menu. Groom and I wanted an elevated Asian fusion menu that went beyond stereotypical panda express type of affair. We not only wanted to incorporate Chinese, Vietnamese, Burmese cuisines, we also threw in vegan, vegetarian, and rare spices that had to be procured from certain vendors. This, for a party of almost 300 people. Yes, we were THAT annoying. But Chris and Chef never gave up on us. We had 2 tastings including dessert/cake.
