I've used this cab company for over a decade. Always polite, professional and on time.... Even on several 3a pickup needs for early travel times. I've called Luxor for business travel prep, personal transport needs and I'm never disappointed. I appreciate their service and sticking with it even through Uber, Lyft, etc.... Do NOT use there services the driver in car 60 picked up a resident from the hospital to drop her off to our senior living facility and i asked him to wait while the care staff gets her walker from her room cause resident was weak and tired this man tells the resident he has togo and she has to get out when i ask him to please wait while the care staff runs to the 6th floor to grab her walker hes pulling her out of the back seat this is so foul the resident is 92 years old its 6:09am so rude i told him ill report him to his employer he said he cant wait he hasnt even been here 2 minutes and throwing our resident out his cab! read more

Luxor Cab used to be a proud company with good people as drivers. My family and I used them for 25 years for local transport and rides to/from SFO. HOW THINGS CHANGE. Now Luxor Cab is a merged company with a cesspool of low quality angry drivers. I made the mistake of hiring cab 236 from SFO. Guy had a lousy attitude and blamed me for his crappy credit card swiper not working. I didn't tip him as a result of fumbling around with my credit card, then he says "thanks for nothing." I asked him what he said and he proceeded to say "I didn't do anything ..F**k you!" I told him to leave and he yelled "F**K YOU" again. He is lucky I am not myself of 20 years ago or he would've got his head beat in. When I called Luxor dispatch to report it then gargled over their words and were clueless. I asked that their Operations Manager Marty call me the next day which he did not. Instead I called him. He seemed bothered and said all Luxor drivers were contractors and that there was little he could do. I asked for a call back, again he didn't call. When I called him again he seemed annoyed again and mumbled something about being busy with insurance. He told me he would follow up with me the following day, and of course he did not. Luxor Cab is a shell of the company they once were. They do not care about their customers and have low quality drivers and cabs. Do yourself a favor ....take Lyft or Uber! After seeing all the bad reviews of this company, I thought I'd give my own review. I've used this cab company since 2012, mostly for trips to and from SFO airport. In all that time, I have never had a bad experience with any of their drivers. They have all been unfailingly polite, pleasant, and most important of all, on time. With one exception, I haven't ridden with the same driver on any of those trips, so I think that says about the general quality of their drivers. It's worth nothing that there are *two* Luxor Cab companies; one in San Mateo and the other in San Francisco. This review is for the one in San Mateo. You can identify their cabs by the fact that they only have 2-digit cab numbers with the full 10-digit phone number, unlike the San Francisco ones where they have 3 digits and a 7-digit phone number that doesn't include the area code. read more

I was fortunate enough to travel to Spain last week with my wife, her sister, my sister in-law's husband and one of my friends. It was an odd, but good mix of people and all made for excellent travel partners. On one of our first nights out to dinner, the topic of how my sister in-law and her husband met. As it turned out, she actually saw him at a convention and picked up on him. That then led to the topic of being hit or picked up on. My wife chimed in about the 100's of times guys have hit on her arghhhhhh. Then her sister, her husband and my friend told countless stories of being in bars, clubs etc and how at times it could be really "annoying". Then the discussion turned towards me, "Rene, do you have any stories to share?" Here it comes, the confession of shame. I have NEVER had a girl ever attempt to pick up or hit on me. Not a single time EVER. Not in a bar, a club, a restaurant, the supermarket, a bowling ally or brothel. The most humiliating part of this is when I admitted this, no one at the table seemed at all surprised and they simply just continued to chat away. Well, I may never have had a pick up line thrown my way, but Luxor Cabs always picks up on time. read more

I have had horrible experiences with SF taxis. They are always pissed off because I'm a "short fare" from SFO to San Mateo. They drive 90mph to dump me off as quick as they can so they can get back to the airport for another fare. I've called to complain and get brushed off by their dispatchers who could care less. With Luxor Cab (Peninsula, not SF Luxor) I call them a day before my pick-up to schedule it and they are always courteous when they answer the phone (even at 3am). They have always been on time and their drivers are always friendly. Upon returning to SFO from my travels, I call them from the gate as I'm walking off the plane and they will meet me at the front of the taxi line that's filled with those aforementioned SF Taxi cabs. Luxor will meet you there within 10 minutes of your call and help you with any bags. Luxor has been on time, every time and that's why I tip them very well. I've traveled extensively and Luxor is a cut above the rest on the peninsula. I recommend Luxor Cab to anyone and everyone on the peninsula. read more

Luxor Cab is still very much in business and still providing the same excellent service. There are some new faces, but one thing is for sure, I will always pick a cab company that drug tests their drivers(like Luxor does) and always ride in a cab for which the cab driver has a "taxi licence". That means that the drivers have had a background check by the police department. I tend to ask a lot of questions while on the way to the airport and the drivers always are courteous and polite. Oh yeah, if you call them when you land they will also come and pick you up at SFO. Pretty cool. I found that out by calling. Just a personal preference, I like to keep it local. I tried both uber and lyft and found that the drivers seem very tired and the times that I have taken them, the drivers have been from areas like Sacramento and beyond. Keep up the great work Luxor. You have been a San Mateo favorite for many many years and hopefully more to come. read more

I don't understand the poor review. Luxor Cabs shows up in my phone Contacts like this: "Taxi - RELIABLE" because it's 100% reliable. I have never had a bad experience. Never had a late or no-show experience. The dispatcher is polite, the drivers are on-time and very professional. Obviously, most of us use Lyft, Uber or any other ride-sharing app for most transportation needs. HOWEVER, there are occasions when you need a car to show up on time. You never know how long the wait is going to be when you're using Lyft. So if you need to get to the airport, or a meeting, at a specific time, and you don't want to waste time, you call Luxor Cabs and they will show up on time and get you there on time. In other words (yes, I'm going to do it!) "I don't always use taxis, but when I do, I call Luxor." read more

Re: Luxor (San Mateo). My family has used this firm for the past 15+ years. This is an old school gem of a cab company. The current owner is a former driver for the previous owner. The loyalty of the drivers is extraordinary. Most of the drivers I encounter have been with the firm for a decade or so. This is not a limo service but good bread and butter, reliable taxi service. They show up on time (you have to call to schedule). Drivers are polite. Cars/minivans are decent. Fares are good. And they will pick you up from the airport. They have a lot of older regular clients who use them to go to and from the grocery store, etc. Solid analog alternative to Uber/Lyft. read more

Is it my fault that I live so close to SFO? Apparently it is and it seems that the majority of time I hop into a cab and ask the drive to drive me to Burlingame I immediately get an attitude. They whip around to the cab station and yell out "SHORT!". Which I believe is code for "I am dropping this loser off two minutes from here and will be back in 10 minutes and wait for an hour for my next fare". I realize that making a living driving a cab is hard and picking up us "short fares" does not help. But because of this, I always tip extra. But I realize that you have no way of knowing this and drive me home at 95 miles per hour to get rid of my butt as as fast as you can. The exception however is Luxor. Their drivers are always friendly and never do I get the "meanie face" when I tell them my address. It's a welcome surprise when a Luxor is next in the taxi passenger pick up line. After 5 or 6 rings, finally someone picked up, a man with a somewhat rude attitude and bad English. He asked me if I was in Richmond. When I said Yes, he told me I needed to call a Richmond cab company. OK. Contrast that to calling Merit Taxi, who picked up after 1 ring, and explained in perfect English that taxi companies tend to work in small regions, they can't really take calls from cities across the bay, and I'd have to find a company in Richmond. read more

EEK! is right when it comes to Luxor Cabs. There are several other cab companies out there, and I'd recommend you'd use them instead. Btw, this is my first ever yelp review. I came out of hiding because the horrible service I experienced with Luxor motivated me. Here's my story. I booked a Luxor Cab Thursday evening for an 8am Friday pickup. I used the booking service through my iPhone app, Taxi Magic, and I was able to track my cab as well. I became worried that the cab wasn't dispatched yet about 15 minutes before pickup but I decided to wait until 8 incase it wasn't working. (my bad, I know). At 8am, I called Luxor and a very VERY awful lady took my call. She didn't even say hello, instead she asked for my address and once I gave it to her, she said a cab would be there shortly. I told her to hang on and asked about the cab I booked last night. Her reply was that I was to be clearer when I called next time so she knew what I wanted and now she'd have to cancel that cab order. (Hello mother, a scolding much?) It was 8:15 by this point so I asked why the cab wasn't on time or even on the way prior to my call. She took on this nasty, arrogant and awful tone and told me that is how they work and if someone wasn't in the area, that I'd just have to wait. When I questioned what kind of services they were running (to my knowledge, if you book a cab, they come and pick you up and make time), she again very rudely told me to "deal with it." I told her she sucked, she thanked me, then I told her she was poopy and hung up. Yup, I called her poopy. I'm so bad. Two minutes later, the cab driver called me to say he was outside. Nice try, Bub! I told him I no longer needed his service. He was also very rude and said "well that is just fantastic!" and hung up. I wasn't about to give my money to that company (over $40 for that trip was planned) nor was I about to get in the car with someone who probably heard an earful about me. Once upon a time, I used to book Luxor cab to get to the airport. Then one day, they didn't send anyone to pick me up. I waited for 10 minutes and called them, and they casually noted ' oh... We have a delay, your car will be there in 15 mins. ' I was surprised that they were delayed by 25 mins and had not bothered to inform me, so I could make alternate arrangements to catch my flight. They went on to educate me that I hadn't provisioned enough time cushion for my flight. I found this app called Uber on my phone, they sent a car to me in 3 minutes, I reached the airport with enough time to catch my flight, and Uber charged me half the price of Luxor. During my flight I quietly reflected on how stupid I was to use Luxor in the first place. One day, the Luxor cab dispatch was replaced by an app, and everybody lived happily ever after. PS: I had only used Luxor in the first place because I could schedule a cab in advance, rather than wait till the morning! read more

When in doubt with shitty lyft or Uber drivers out there. Call Luxor cab. They got out here to Belmont fast and they don't care if I have dog. Unlike the Uber driver that left me stranded for over an hour. Found out why when he passed by he saw I have a dog which I notified them before. Luxor didn't give me any problem at all and why should they? My dog is less than 15 Ib. The driver was friendly and very nice to me. So I am thankful that I can called them and relied on them. I wish I would have heard the bad reviews... I called the day before asking for a cab at 4:30am to pick up my friend and drop him off at the San Francisco airport. Around 4:45am we called them and they said it would take 10 or 15 more minutes. By that time my friend would have lost his flight. I picked up my car to drive him and called the cab company again to complain and cancel the cab. At that time they said they were actually out of my building looking for my friend for a while... Totally BS. I drove by the cab right before I left my apartment building... My friend then moved all his stuff to the cab and they hurried up to the airport. If you will be late, please call and ask for further directions. Even better than that, show up few minutes earlier so you can make sure you will be on time. More importantly, please DO CALL YOUR CUSTOMERS to let them know you are late. You don't know how big the headache can be and how expensive a missing flight can be. I have used Luxor around a dozen times over the last year mostly to get dropped off and picked up at the airport. They have been on time, friendly and professional each time I've used them. I usually call the day before giving them the time, and they show up five to ten minutes early. I have even used them for 5:00am departures without issue. On the flight back to SFO, I call when I land and they have a Taxi at the very front of the cab line to pick me up. The reason I use Luxor and not SF Cab is, I live in Burlingame which is only about 10 min away from SFO and every time I've taken the airport taxis they get annoyed that it's such a short trip (as if I have a choice). read more

I wouldn't have used Luxor, but there aren't many options when you need a cab at 5am on a Saturday, to the airport. (Probably should have used Lyft, in hindsight.) Cab driver seemed impatient after he had to wait a couple of minutes for us to come downstairs from our apartment. Car reeked of marijuana and once we got close to our exit, he appeared to be falling asleep (passing out?). When we feared he had, he kind of jolted awake, then had to cut off a lane of airport shuttles to not miss the exit for SFO. He was civil. Nothing remarkable. Most likely will not use Luxor again. read more

Luxor is great for getting to and from Peninisula cities and SFO. No more nasty city cabbies speeding through the streets to make a "short" for me. Just call Luxor when you get your bags from baggage claim and they will come pick you up and take you where you need to go peacefully. The dispatch is great, they are always prompt, and most drivers are quite friendly, an added bonus! read more

I can't believe I have something good to say about a cab company.... I'm definitely the guy that will pay a few extra to take a car service so I know when and where I going to end up. And it looks and smells better, it's just the truth. But - I had an early flight to LA today and I booked a cab on Luxors website last night. The cab was early. Early. And they waited patiently. And they txt'd me to tell when it was dispatched and called when it arrived. Cab was clean, driver was friendly. And he was so fast, and i got out of the cab for under $30. Maybe it's cause the sun is shining so beautifully into the airport terminal window as it comes up this morning that I am feeling this way. I think Luxor has something to do with it though. I'm giving them five stars in comparison with Yellow Cab. Luxor was on time and the driver was friendly. He drove at normal speed and got me there for 9 dollars. I had taken a Yellow Cab previously and he was suspiciously driving very slow and charged me 12 dollars! I am taking Luxor cab from now on. We have been using them for almost 20 years and have no trouble, but recently we heard our young lady friend from out of town hired them go to San Francisco from San Mateo. The male driver harassed her in the car!!!!! He harassed her by commenting to her on a building they passed by. Luxor cab is my default cab going to and from SFO. I took them many 30 times in the last 4/5 years. They have been late exactly once and they called me to tell me the cab was 10min late due to a huge traffic jam on 101. The good news is that day we used 280 to get the airport. They are very trustworthy, once I was paying at the airport and I drop a $20 bill in the cab (it was 5am and I could not see and was not sure I actually dropped it). So I took my plane. Once at my destination I had a voicemail from the Luxor cab dispatcher saying that the driver found my $20 at the end of his shift and It would be waiting for me at their office in San Mateo to pick it up. read more

Their claim for good service is misleading. Good service begins from the call you make for a taxi. The guy who answered my call, was quite rude. I needed to ask whether they can handle my large suitcases + 2 passengers to the airport. While explaining further about my needs, the guy said, "I'm missing out on all these other calls because you're wasting my time with all these questions..." Even if they could handle my trip, is this the proper way of handling a customer's call?!!! I would recommend using a different service in San Mateo. M___ Taxi. I even planned for them to come 15 minutes ahead of time. Awful....just awful dealing with a lying cabbie and a dispatcher who backed him up. I gave them a big enough window to deliver a patient from the hospital to the airport, but I had to call them 5 times before the dispatcher finally called on another cab to pick her up.
