Kara did an amazing job with my professional headshot-style photo shoot…read more I wasn't even sure what I was looking for, so she took some time at the beginning to discus the traditional versus "new wave" style of business pictures. With LinkedIn and social media being such a big deal now a days, you better look profesh, and you better look good while you're doing it. She made everything stress free for me and guided me through the process. I'm not used to professional pictures, but she made me feel comfortable and confident during the shoot. Tried on some different outfits with some different backgrounds at her studio (which is lovely and nicely decorated) The day was painless and casual, she had a quick turnaround process and gave me a stunning final result, including a great editing process for some general blemish removal, etc. Would highly recommend Kara not just for her professional photography skills, but her personality and her ability to make you feel at ease. She handles family portraits, weddings and adorable baby shoots, too!

She cleared her schedule and was able to beautifully capture my increasingly huge and more active, less sleepy infant. The preparation that went into the shoot was top notch from the heat being turned up in the studio so my baby wasn't cold to the wide variety of outfits, props, sound machine, and she even had a camping/outdoorsy background that fit our nursery theme! We BOTH felt we were in the best of care; my baby is normally fussy in the hands of strangers but Kara had a way of calming him to get all the cutest poses effortlessly, and I as a new mom was able to finally relax for a few hours. She is also a mom to two littles and was incredibly easy to talk and relate to. It was apparent she truly loves her career and genuinely cares about her customers and their family.. which is increasingly hard to find these days! I recommend her services to anyone looking for family photos; you will treasure them for decades to come.

For starters, if it was possible to give BlackDog Studios less than one star, I would. Coming from…read moresomeone who knows the ins and outs of small business, such as the struggles that surface daily when owning your own small business, as well as the hardships that accompany the financial stress of having a small business, I can tell you quite positively that his business will implode very soon. And by this I mean that he will internally demolish what is left of his company as a result of his own actions and no one else's. To begin, when my fiancé (who is from out-of-state) and I met with the owner of this company, Jim Hamberg, he was less than pleasant to meet with. Although he agreed to meet with us, and said he put us in his calendar, when we showed up at his studio he was surprised to see us. He admitted he forgot about us, and that since he was in the middle of speaking to someone else, we would have to wait a minute (which was ultimately 25 minutes). Since my fiancé is from out-of-state and this was really the only opportunity we had, we waited. His studio was a total mess (to say the least) he had empty beer bottles and garbage all over the place, there was a dog in the studio that had chewed what looked like paper to complete bits that were scattered everywhere, the studio smelled of weed, and he was wearing no shoes, a grungy t-shirt, and shorts (it was a cooler day in October). When he finally finished his other meeting, he took us to his "back room" where we were supposed to meet and discuss wedding packages. He unfortunately didn't have chairs (apparently they were on order, which I find hard to believe) so he had us sit on a futon that had sheets and pillows on top of it. My fiancé and I agreed after the fact that it looked as though he lives there as well. Although we were already agitated that our appointment started 25 minutes late, and the environment of his studio was extremely unprofessional, we decided to give him a chance. After all, the work we had seen online was what brought us to the studio in the first place. He showed us a few albums and we really liked his work. When we returned home I looked at BlackDog Studio's reviews online, which all pointed to red flags I now am terribly upset I ignored. Jim Hamberg had a terrible rating with the Better Business Bureau (an F, with many complaints) and outstanding court cases. But, we loved his work and we hadn't found another photographer that compared so we decided to give him a chance regardless (again, I emphasize that our decision was based SOLELY on his work). We gave him a deposit the following week of $1,000. We were told we would get a free engagement session when we booked with him, so since my fiancé is from out-of-state we booked a session well in advance to accommodate him traveling to Wisconsin. Jim said our day was confirmed and agreed to meet us in Milwaukee for the shoot. Because we were going to travel from the airport to meet with him, we decided on a general time but agreed to call him if my fiancé's flight status changed. My fiancé's flight ended up arriving 20 minutes early, so I wanted to call him and let him know that we would be a little early but that it wasn't a problem at all to meet at the time we originally planned on. However, he didn't answer. The time we planned on meeting rolled around, then fifteen minutes later, then thirty minutes later, and there was no sign of Jim. I called him numerous times hoping nothing terrible happened, sent him multiple text messages, called his studio to see where he was: no response. Finally I got a text message from him (an hour later) saying: "Won't make it call later." I tried calling him immediately after I got the text and he didn't answer. I am appalled that someone would conduct a small business in this manor. More over, I'm appalled that someone would do something as unprofessional as this, and then not have so much as the decency to call and apologize, perhaps provide an explanation, to the customers he wronged. I see he was on Facebook the day he was suppose to be shooting our engagement photographs, so it is quite evident that an emergency did not occur like I initially thought. When I continued reading reviews online after our incident occurred, I saw that I am not alone. It is quite obvious from other's reviews, as well as my own experiences with BlackDog Studios, that he is in the process of sabotaging his own business. It is a shame that our experience, and his unwillingness to resolve it in a peaceful manner, has now caused us to take legal action to get our deposit back. At this point, all I can say is that if you are in the process of planning a wedding as we were, I would highly advise you to not select BlackDog Studios.

They are two genuine people who you can tell through their words and actions that care about capturing their customer's vision. Communication is flawless throughout from preparing for the day to the last photo taken on the day of. They are great interacting with all family and friends and creating a timeline that works while making the day feel fun, effortless, and not stressful. My morning hair/makeup team got behind and not once did I feel pressured or worried- Meredith adjusted our timeline without missing any shots we wanted. Our family and friends complimented to us after the wedding how much they loved our photographers because they were 'energetic' and could tell that they loved what they do because they were laughing with people, enjoying the event as if it was their own wedding, and just so kind. We received a sneak peak within 2 days of our wedding, received a FLAWLESS GORGEOUS album back within 60days, and we are obsessed with the pictures. This by far was the best vendor decision we made out of our entire wedding! 10 out of 10!! My husband and I plan to have Meredith and Mark help capture more future milestones in our life.
