It is small, and sometimes I feel like the elevator is going to break down while I'm in it (also the elevator door opens before it touches the ground) but overall it's a cute.. small town library. They have most of the popular books, and a nice study area. They do community events, and always have some kind of raffle. The library card is free. They have a book drop box for when they aren't open. It's in the middle of down town enterprises and it's a convenient and beautiful establishment for the area. I go there quite often to find books.

So if you are working on your laptop be sure it is fully charged. But even if it isn't there usually aren't too many people here so you can get a table near an outlet. They have several tables that are "designated laptop tables" due to the limited number of outlets available. Although, it's one of the smaller libraries in the area, the friendly staff and homey ambiance make it worth the visit. The hours of operation need to be updated on the Yelp page because it says they close at five but it doesn't. It would be strange that they would close at five when story time for kids after school doesn't start until four. The children's area is well-stocked with lots of toys and 3 computers for kids games. In the early evening around 3 o'clock to four it's not too busy after school. But once 5 o'clock hits that's when it starts getting a little bit busier and they only have eight adult computer stations so if you need one I would get there a little bit earlier. They have a self checkout station, which is really nice because it teaches kids to be responsible with their books. They do have some fun things lined up for the summer, so check out the public library website or stop by to see their schedule. We were asked if we wanted to see the originally scheduled one but some people wanted to continue watching the one they started so I didn't say anything. However, this movie was full of filthy language, repeatedly satin the F word and GD word and there were young people in the theater. This was an R rated movie and it was way too Inappropriate for youngsters but their decision,to,show it with an underage audience has really made me lose a lot of respect for them. This was not ok. I got up and left because I was pretty disgusted. Please do better library staff. Thank you

We visited Troy University's Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery, AL on Jan 7, 2026 as part of Road…read moreScholar's "The Civil Rights Movement - Atlanta, Montgomery, Selma, Birmingham" program. As the name indicates, this museum is entirely about the titular civil rights icon. Tickets were covered by our program. We spent less than an hour here, in part because we got two other sites to visit in our day's itinerary. Our tour guide informed us that photography was not allowed inside the exhibition rooms. (Judging by the content on this business listing, that didn't stop other visitors from taking photos.) In the first room, we saw a short film that summarizes the segregation in Montgomery prior to Parks' historic act. After that, we went another room and were standing in front of a bus modeled after the one that Parks boarded and refused to give up her seat. The bus's windows serves as screens for another short film that re-enacted the historic moment. The dialogue is boosted by surround sound all over the room so that visitors could feel what it was like at that moment. After that, we went into the third and final room of exhibits showing what happened after Parks' arrest and its impact on the Civil Rights Movement. I recalled life-size figures, a model of a 1950s car and dimmed lighting. (Many thanks to Lulu Wang and her article "Rosa Parks Museum: Take You Back to 1955, Montgomery, AL" in medium.com for helping with my recollections.) The museum is clearly focused on Rosa Parks the civil rights icon, but not Rosa Parks the person, family member and human being. To my recollection, there was little mention about her life before and after the bus boycott (and the larger Civil Rights Movement). Nor was there a mention of the asteroid named after her: 284996 Rosaparks. I learnt about that from a "Doctor Who" episode (series 11, episode 3, titled "Rosa"). I don't recall if the exhibits mention of Parks' prior encounter with the bus driver James Blake 12 years earlier. After paying her fare at the front entrance, she tried to enter through the back entrance. But Blake drove off without her. Some accounts claimed that she refused to board. It'd be nice to know what's the museum's take on that incident. Of the three Montgomery mini-sites about the Civil Rights movement - the other two being the Civil Rights Memorial Center and the Freedom Rides Museum - the Rosa Parks museum is the smallest in space and content, and the only one that does not allow photography. I was the least happy with it. It's certainly worth the visit if done in conjunction with the Civil Rights Memorial Center and the Freedom Rides Museum, both of which are within walking distance. In addition to that, go see the Rosa Parks statue at the Rosa Parks Bus Stop on Court Square, which is also within walking distance.

There are also others from the Orient, as well as Kentucky muskets from the 18th century. Although librarians don't normally accept it, legend has it that Alice Fellows the library's first paid librarian has haunted this library since her death in 1926. So I wandered inside a haunted library in Defuniak Springs. They told me to take any book I wanted for free. So, I did. I got a lot of free books. P.S. I didn't see a ghost.

My daughter and I are avid readers, as are my best friend and her children. We don't always get out…read moreto the library, but when we do, we head to the Crestview branch. It isn't as large, bright, and airy as the Niceville branch, but it is well-staffed and well-stocked with selections. And it is local to us. Best of all, if something is at one of the sister branches, they'll have it transferred for us, which is always nice! I recently went in to the library to return some books, and came across the friendliest librarian I'd met at the Crestview branch in the three years I have lived here. I was in a hurry - my best friend was in the car with 10 children, waiting on me - but now I wish I had thought to get her name. Many of the other staff I have encountered here seem to be worn out, tired of dealing with people. That's not the attitude I want to encounter when I'm coming to find materials to promote relaxation and happiness for me, or education and learning in my daughter. We do love the story hour and arts/crafts mornings. My best friend's daycare looks forward to the days we promise to take them. The changes they made in the layout for the Teen section are nice - nothing overwhelming, but definitely more welcoming. All in all .. we appreciate the Library, the services they provide, and the people who continue to work hard to make it a great experience for everyone.
