Interesting historic library right by the lake. A good place to use the restroom and get WiFi if you're charging at the nearby Tesla supercharger. Can walk here in under 5 minutes.

I do think the wireless internet speed needs some serious improvement to be helpful or effective, since cell phone 5G is actually faster than the library WiFi. Lots of encouragement to attend local program events. Programming leans toward mostly children's and family programming options, and some look like very fun programs. Copying and printing is 10¢ per page, and the default print mode when wirelessly printing is double sided, so you can get six pages onto 3 paid pages. The staff didn't think wireless printing was possible, but when I attempted to print from my laptop on the wireless network to the network printer, it went through without issue, which was helpful for a document that I needed print from my laptop and not email to another computer. There's a collection of books, magazines, sometimes audio books and DVDs for sale for only $0.25 at the front if you want to pick up something to take to the beach that might get a little sandy or watery, or because you aren't a local library member. One of the surprising collection pieces are a set of cake pans and recipes for creative party celebrations.

I had to ask for help looking up a subject category because it seemed that you needed a library card number to use the computers. That's understandable, especially in a tourist town. The librarian helped us find what we need and our kids got to color a picture, play with a wooden train (quietly), and read some books while we waited out the rain. There was one very noisy little kiddo who was with us and the librarian did ask his mother to try to keep him a bit quieter, I assume from a patron complaint. I thought she handled it well and politely (she said "I can tell he's having fun!" in a friendly way), and to be fair, the kid was being VERY shriek-y while enjoying the train table. They also gave us a pen and a piece of paper to use for note-taking from one of the books, which I thought was nice. Thank you PCBPL for helping our kids have a wonderful day of reading and rescuing our trip.

I called and requested that a book be sent over from another Okaloosa library. The staff member said that she would place the request, but never did. I needed the book for a class and ended up having to order it to get in it time. They closed the childrens' section down during the summer to remodel (a poor management decision). I made a special trip to the library with my children and was turned away. They do not offer many summer programs for children at this location. Space is being wasted here. Bring in new talent or reallocated the money going to the FWB location to the Mary Esther, Destin, and Niceville library.

If it isn't in this library the staff finds it at another library and has if for you, if available, in a few days. The wonderful new children's area of the library is just lovely for parents and children. The construction was efficient and well managed and took very little time. I can't wait to take my grandchildren to see the improvements this November! Hope 'Elmo' is available then too!! The Children Section librarian staff goes to great lengths to encourage children to read. The head of this section, Nancy, even dresses up as Elmo for special reading days and the children and parents love it! We love this library!

It isn't as large, bright, and airy as the Niceville branch, but it is well-staffed and well-stocked with selections. And it is local to us. Best of all, if something is at one of the sister branches, they'll have it transferred for us, which is always nice! I recently went in to the library to return some books, and came across the friendliest librarian I'd met at the Crestview branch in the three years I have lived here. I was in a hurry - my best friend was in the car with 10 children, waiting on me - but now I wish I had thought to get her name. Many of the other staff I have encountered here seem to be worn out, tired of dealing with people. That's not the attitude I want to encounter when I'm coming to find materials to promote relaxation and happiness for me, or education and learning in my daughter. We do love the story hour and arts/crafts mornings. My best friend's daycare looks forward to the days we promise to take them. The changes they made in the layout for the Teen section are nice - nothing overwhelming, but definitely more welcoming. All in all .. we appreciate the Library, the services they provide, and the people who continue to work hard to make it a great experience for everyone.
