Most musical instrument retailers have floor samples of the big three: Roland, Yamaha, Casio. All of those I tried didn't satisfy for various and personally important reasons. Mostly like the keyboard didn't feel like an acoustic piano or the simulated piano sounds were too fake electronic. Was motivated to visit as Stanroy is a Kawai digital piano authorized seller which no other local sellers carry. I've been an occasional Stanroy customer since 1973. In the dark distant past I have purchased guitars, amplifiers, percussion instruments, even a few real German made pear wood recorders. But it's been decades since my last purchase. Was always satisfied with the shopping and purchasing process. Today, played the Kawai KDP-120 digital piano. Keyboard action feels like a "real" piano. The sound models are remarkably pleasing. Close your eyes and you'd be hard pressed to hear that it's digital. The construction is solid. Industry reputation for reliability is excellent. MSRP for the piano is $1599. Stanroy price = $1199. Sold! Nice folks. Stanroy is a real musical instrument store in that they sell and service orchestral instruments. Only place in Sonoma County you can buy a trombone, trumpet, piccolo or French horn. All the other shops (which I also love) are basically electric guitar stores with amps, a few synthesizer keyboards , DJ tables, PA systems, one drum set, and the panoply of electronic gizmos for rock n' rollers. Stanroy, it's been too long since my previous visit until today. I promise not to stay away too long again. Highest recommendation.

I know negative about guitars. I have a nephew graduating from high school this spring and I…read morewanted to get him something meaningful and useful. He plays bass in one of those School of Rock type places and is passionate about it. I called my sister to see if there was anything he could use and she sent me a blurry photo of some kind of board he uses and told me he needs a carrying case. I went to Bananas at Large because of their reputation for being kind and knowledgeable. Their reputation is well deserved. I was greeted right when I walked in, I decided to look around a bit before asking for help because while I don't know anything about guitars, some of the instruments they had on the wall were works of art and I enjoy looking at art. When I was ready, I found the first employee, showed him the photo and explained the situation. He knew exactly what it was and where to find what I was looking for. He then took the case over to where they had the exact thing in the photo to show me how well it fit and other features of the case. He explained the 14-day return policy if it turned out to be the wrong thing and let me decide what I wanted to do. I wound up purchasing the case. I loved that I was nicely greeted when I walked in but left alone to browse. I loved that I didn't have to hunt down someone to help me when I was ready. I loved the general vibe of the place. I loved that they had what I needed and clearly a ton of things I might need if I ever decide to get into playing. I loved that parking was easy. I loved that they were excited to help someone who had no idea what they were doing in a guitar shop, were in no hurry to get me out of the store and patient enough to answer all my questions. I even loved that they accept Venmo for payments. Great place to go if you don't know anything about guitars but love someone who does.

True stories of what they've done for me even in just the last month: My guitar needed some repairs before a gig, and they fast tracked the service and ordered an uber to bring the guitar to my house! I wanted a tuner pedal that was out of stock basically everywhere in the country, and they took their last one from Santa Rosa and shipped it to San Rafael store for free for me to pick up the next day. Best of all, I was unhappy with my guitar tone and Dan spent nearly 2 hours sitting with me trying different pedals and setups, before settling on showing me some different settings on my own amp, some different plectrums and swapping a pedal I'd bought recently for only a $10 difference! It would have been so easy to have sold me another pedal or 2 that I didn't really need, but the fact he didn't builds complete trust and makes me a customer for life!

What can I say, I fell in love with this place the first moment I walked through the door. Sarina,…read moreBilly, and KK are some of the most down to earth folks you'll meet. They are not there to coerce you into parting with your hard earned remuneration; they are there simply to brighten your day. Should you ultimately decide you are there to purchase an instrument or piece of equipment, they will guide and advise you accordingly in making the ideal choice, based on YOUR needs, not theirs. The layout of this shop is systematized in such a manner that is easy on the eyes, a ubiquitous immaculacy, rarely found in a guitar shop. A complimentary coffee bar and hangout nook is such a welcome and beguiling feature. It's not difficult to imagine spending more time in this shop than one has budgeted for; and that's the point, you'll never feel anything but welcome to lounge about, test out some amazing gear, and enjoy all the store and its owners have to offer... Speaking of the owners, Billy's proficient skill with guitar repair has left me in awe. The first two guitars (Ibanez and Fender) I brought in were in need of some serious love. When I picked them up, I plugged them in and found they played better than what I had first purchased them or at any point after. The level of skill and care applied is immeasurable. He treats every instrument as if it were his own. This shop and its owners are a true treasure and a most welcome addition to the town of Petaluma. Do yourself a favor and stop by, you won't regret it. \m/
