We have been going to lurgan for over 30 years. I cannot imagine going anywhere else for all my gardening needs!!

This was my first visit. I only wish I had brought more cash as I was overwhelmed with the selection of all their healthy plants. Everyone there was so nice and helpful. I can't wait to go back again as I didn't have enough time to see all that they had. I could spend a whole day there. It's worth the visit, a must see place! I planted them right a way.

Lurgan Greenhouse is a very talked about place in the area. Now I know why. We went on a Saturday morning to check it out. It's huge. If you've never been here before and really want to look around, allow for 2-3 hours. This review is lengthy. Here are the highlights if you don't feel like reading the whole thing: 1. Huge selection. 2. Every plant/tree is lush and healthy, well cared for. No dried out and suffering plants. 3. Exceptionally reasonable prices. 4. They sell ample garden supplies also (including pond supplies). 5. Beautiful setting to walk around and look. It's not far down a rough road off of PA 997, pretty easy to find. Out in farm country. They have an amazing set-up. If you look beyond the beautiful, healthy plants, you see why they're so healthy. They use a great set-up to ensure proper watering, drainage, sunlight, and temperature controls. A great watering system is set up, and the employees are always working around the area keeping plants watered, neat, and cleaning up. ~~~Selection: If you can't find something you like here, I don't know what to tell you. Such a wide selection, different colors, and plenty to choose from. They even put up signs to give you little tidbits of information, suggestions, tips, and tricks to finding just what you want. If you want herbs, veggies, or berry bushes, take your pick. Mid-summer seems to be a great time for real bargains, with vegetable plants and herbs buy one get one free. Need gardening supplies? They've got it. Herbicides, pesticides, garden tools, landscaping equipment, garden decor... They have great trees, but bring a pick-up or open trailer because they sell some nice, tall trees. Again, great selection of bushes and shrubs. They also sell a small selection of patio/garden furniture. If you want or have a pond or water feature, you can likely get most or all of your supply here, even pond fish. ~~~Prices: This is where Lurgan Greenhouse gets even better. Their prices are amazing. Herbs were $1.29, many veggie plants were $1.49 or $1.99. We bought 2 different blueberry bushes, a blackberry bush, a black raspberry bush, and two small perennial decorative plants for $41 total. And they weren't tiny berry bushes either! I was amazed each time I looked at prices on something, they were incredible. ~~~More about the Place: Lurgan Greenhouse is run by (I believe) the Mennonite community. They do not accept any cards, so you must bring cash or checks. The place does have electricity but the indoor areas aren't air conditioned. So, if you're planning on going on a hot day, go early. Also, they are not open on Sundays. They do have a public restroom that I saw. Carts are plentiful out front for getting what you need, and they have forklifts for very large or heavy items. We weren't approached by anyone who worked there while we browsed. One gentleman said hello, but the staff keep to themselves. If you have a question, there's always someone nearby though. ~~~Overall Opinion: What a place. Exceptionally large selection, marvelously healthy plants, and more than reasonable prices. It really doesn't get any better. Beats out anywhere else in the area.

Smucker Gardens knows how to kick off fall in style! My first visit was for their 2025 Mum…read moreFestival, and let me tell you--it was everything I hoped for and then some. The Scene: Easy to find on GPS, well-signed from the road, and plenty of parking in the gravel lot. Their greenhouses are massive and overflowing with plants, and inside the main building you'll find home décor, gifts, and seasonal goodies galore. Prices lean a touch higher than some other local greenhouses, but given the location and setup, it felt fair. The Mum Festival: Perfectly organized. Food trucks up front (grab a bite first, wander later--smart!), vendor tents sprinkled throughout, live music filling the air, and kids' activities that looked like pure joy. It was a warm, sunny September Saturday--ideal fall fest weather. The Adventure: While mums and pumpkins were great for the vibe, my main goal was something a little...unexpected. The ad mentioned camel rides. Yes, CAMEL rides. At a mum fest. At 40 years old, I had never ridden a camel, and I wasn't about to miss my shot. I called ahead to confirm that the "kids activity" was indeed open to grown-ups, too. Fast forward to the fest--I see the sign: "Camel Rides $10 Per Person." Ten bucks for a once-in-a-Central-PA-lifetime adventure? SOLD. Nervous, excited, and slightly in disbelief, I climbed aboard. And it was everything I hoped it would be--totally worth the thrill (and the bragging rights). The Food: Yummy eats from food trucks and coffee from Brewboxx to keep the energy high. Perfect fuel for festival hopping. All in all: a fun, unique, and memorable event. Smucker Gardens is worth a visit on any regular day--but during Mum Fest? Add it to your fall bucket list.
