Pleasantly surprised while stumbling into this place. The staff outside grilling up the tacos were friendly. They shared about their $3 street taco special on this day. We tried the Al pastor, the carnitas, and Al pastor tacos--all three were tasty and all 3 salsas I tried were delicious: habanero, chipotle, and the green one. I had the shrimp ceviche which was delicious and beautifully presented with tostados and fresh chips on a separate plate. I love that they serve draft beer-- just what I was looking for and margaritas were $5 this day (reg $8). What a deal!!! Both were perfecto. Son sampled a couple of their drinks & opted for the Jamaica which comes with free refills (unheard of in my experience for juices). The ambiance is pretty and music is on point with the Mexican cuisine. All staff we encountered were genuinely kind and friendly. They hit all the points. A+ Lupe's! Stopped by for dinner with my son. It's a great casual place. They have good food, some vegan friendly options, great guacamole (a little spicy). The staff is friendly. Went here for taco Tuesday for the first time and probably my last time. The lady taking orders (Michelle) didn't disclose to me that the street tacos were different than the tacos on the menu. I ordered the food and asked if I got it from outside, then she said "Oh you wanted street tacos" and I said yes, and she said "Oh then just go get it.". I said is there a price difference and she said yes and mumbled a price. I told her ok then can I just get a refund of the difference and she was like you want chips instead and I said no thanks. Then when she went to go give me a refund she was like oh no you actually owe me money. I said how is it that now you're changing things on me. She really needed to be upfront from the beginning and ask me which tacos I wanted to begin with. She spoke in her native language to her fellow coworkers while in front of me, little did she know that I speak and understand Spanish and her rude words and attitude was unreal! This place seems to be going downhill. I used to LOVE Lupe's and recommend it to everyone, but these last few times have been lacking value and quality. After a long week at work, I spent $18 for 1 nachos and paid $3 for extra nacho cheese, I wanted some delicious Mexican food as a pick me up. Came here with family as we were in the area and craving Mexican food. FOOD: I had the Two taco plate and I really liked it. I got the Surf and Turf taco which was sooooo delicious! Also got the Fried fish taco which was very good as well! The only feedback is that they are not too flexible with making things vegetarian as my family is vegetarian. There is a limited amount of things they can do. DECOR/AMBIANCE: Decor was simple and nice. There is a bar area with seats on the side which was cool. I really wanted to love this place and was so excited to learn that they opened one in the area. We've tried the fries, tacos, hot Cheeto burrito, and here are my honest thoughts. Fries are a big portion, but still pretty overpriced. I think our fries were close to $19! Which is pretty pricey for some dressed up carne asada fries. Hot Cheeto burrito was underwhelming, not the combo I was imagining and the Cheetos were pretty stale. The tacos were decent, nothing mind blowing and priced pretty high too. I love this place! The bf and I stopped in for a quick week night dinner and loved it - portions were amazing for the price and the food came out so hot and fresh. Service was so friendly and the entire restaurant had such a fun vibe. Very clean and well organized. The parking lot is chaotic after 5 pm because of Trader Joe's next door but there are still plenty of spots. I loved my spicy shrimp and beer battered fish tacos. This is not the first Lupes I've eaten at, but I think it is my favorite! Located in an increasingly popular mini-mall style area that has a Trader Joe's, a Eureka! Grill, as well as a new 99 Ranch Market, it is in prime real estate in Aliso Viejo, and has ample parking in a large parking lot nearby. This Lupe's has a full bar set up towards the back of the restaurant, an OK amount of indoor seating with booths as well as tables that can accommodate various group sizes, and a beautiful little patio. Food is mostly fast food style where you have a walk up counter to order and for to-go orders, but if you are eating in, the food will be delivered to your table. As per all Lupe's, there are lots of options including: tacos, ceviche, bowls, burritos, Kids meals, and various other Mexican California style items. The flavors are excellent, there are vegetarian as well as seafood and meat options, and everything is tasty. This Lupe's also has a coffee bar, which makes a pretty fantastic iced Horchata coffee. I love the vibe, the customer service has always been pleasant, and this location makes the best chicken bowl that I've had at almost any Mexican eatery in a while. I recently moved away from this area, but it is good enough that I think I will be coming every once in a while just for a coffee and a bowl. read more

Lupe's Mexican Eatery started in San Diego and now has multiple locations across the Southern California area. This location is in Aliso Viejo next to Trader Joe's in a plaza with ample parking. We ordered the California burrito ($16) and the campechana fries ($18). The burrito was really good and creamy and my only complaint is I wish it was bigger. The fries came with half al pastor and half steak which were both good and portioned well. The fries were also crispy and well-seasoned, and the food was packed pretty full to the box. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and the inside has tables, booths, and TVs. There was also a salsa station on the side with three good salsas. It wasn't busy when I went and the food came out in five minutes which was cool. read more

I've given this place plenty of chances -- I've been there at least ten times -- and every single time they've gotten my burrito order wrong. Even after double-checking with the cashier A female manager abd a male manager, clearly explaining how I wanted it, they still don't get it right. All I ever order is the steak congo burrito. Added sour cream. Add guacamole. Every time, I get home and find no sour cream, no guac, and barely any steak. It's incredibly frustrating that they can't follow such SIMPLE instructions. After so many chances, I'm officially done with Lupe's. I won't be going back. LA PERLAS is way better and they follow instructions. read more

First time trying this place and it was so good. I love going to a place that is nice, clean and the customer service such a delight. They have a nice cute little patio and that is where we decided to have lunch. I ordered the three rolled tacos and made it a combo with a side of Mexican Rice and a drink. The hubby ordered the spicy shrimp burrito with a side of spicy Serrano peppers and a drink. I absolutely loved the rolled tacos and the rice was so delicious. I have not had rolled tacos this good since I left Texas. The hubby really enjoyed his burrito and said it was nice to eat a burrito that you can hold that did not fall apart. This is too expensive for what it is. I spent nearly $20 on two tacos and a Coke. Obviously I misunderstood the menu when it said "cheesey" Birria tacos. The menu states all signature tacos come with grilled mozzarella cheese. Wasn't sure where the cheese was supposed to be, inside or outside of the tacos. I didn't see cheese anywhere on these tacos; very disappointing. I should've stuck with my original plan to go to Baja Fish taco where they actually put cheese in their food. I only had a pork taco and although it was a little dry, it was decent. It was the pricey food and the subpar customer service that earned this 1 star review. I paid $13 for a small taco and tortilla chips (inc a 15% tip). They charged $2 for cheese (didn't come with) and it was a scant teaspoon's worth. If I'm paying $2 extra for cheese, don't skimp on the cheese. The first time I was at this venue, I asked if I could get a pork taco on a crispy taco shell and was told no. You can only order a beef taco that way! Ridiculous. When I went back today, I asked if I could get a dollar's worth of tortilla chips (3-5) so I had some crunch while I ate my $8 soft taco. Also no so I had to buy a full order of tortilla chips. The kicker? They didn't bother telling me either time I was there that if I 'asked' for the early bird special, it's two tacos for $7 vs $5 for one. I only learned about the early bird special when I got to the booth but you place your order before you go to the booth. Feeling duped, I asked to speak to the manager (which I inherently knew was a mistake) and when I asked him how I was supposed to know about the early bird special when it's not posted where you place your order (or anywhere visible) and the staff don't tell you, he said: "Everybody knows!" I felt like I was back in Mexico at a (disgusting) hotel off the beaten path where they were masters at flashing a pearly white smile while ripping you off blind, and this place is in that category. After making that statement, he laughably gave the impression that he didn't speak English or he wanted me to think he didn't speak English so it was Mexico 2.0 for me except this time I was California.
