A list of turnover duties was agreed to, and even printed up (in Portuguese!) for the weekly crew to review. NOTHING was done on the list, almost as if it had been deliberately ignored - things like fresh toiletries put out, bed covers rotated, fresh soaps, TP, paper towels etc. put out from the supply we had laid in before the summer. We returned after the final cleaning to find the floors filthy, as if there had been no mopping ever. We spent two days doing remedial housecleaning - vacuuming the carpet in just one room filled the vacuum canister. Cookware was disgusting and scattered helter-skelter. Furniture and decor was misplaced, despite our leaving photographs of each room as it should be and asking them to refer to them weekly. In several years of summer renting, this was the third service we tried, and by far the worst.

I was renting a co-op sort of house where we all get two weeks in the summer and are responsible for arranging our own cleaning before we leave. The people who rent the weeks before us are both cheap ... and slobs. They 'semi' clean the house themselves to save money vs. hiring someone and do a poor job. So, we never trust them to clean well. This year, more than ever, we wanted a top to bottom cleaning of the house to ensure all was good from a pandemic perspective given the slobs that rent the weeks before us, so I did a little research and called Cape Cod Cleaning Collaborative because they seemed to have the most trustworthy reviews. I spoke to the owner who returned my message promptly and asked me several questions about my needs. She mentioned that unfortunately, she isn't taking new clients this season due to a reduced work force and also, they can't clean houses as a one-off. They will do a 'deep clean' of a house at the beginning of the season and then come in for 'touch ups' but don't really do the whole 'I have the house for this week and would like it cleaned when I arrive' type of thing. If you rent a house, the home owner would likely have to have this deep clean done at the beginning of the season and then schedule subsequent cleanings for when guests leave. This wasn't our situation. I see that some reviews get a little pissy about this protocol but I have to respect it because it means they do a great job, are thorough, and don't go through the motions. If I owned a house on Cape Cod, I'd certainly use no other company but this one to clean it based on this interaction. However, the owner was great about passing on the name of the company she uses to sanitize and clean carpets in the homes she deep-cleans when she heard of my concerns about covid. She sent an email to that company's owner referring me to his business and he ended up coming in and doing a fantastic job of sanitizing the house and carpets for a great price. She didn't have to make that referral for me and did not benefit from it financially ... she was just trying to be helpful. Another reason why I would choose this business over any other business on Cape Cod, if I owned a house. Based on our initial conversation, it seems like the business owner really takes into account the needs of the customer and doesn't cut corners. I passed her name along to the person who owns the house we all split weeks at during the summer and I can only hope he will call her to arrange for cleaning going forward vs. everyone doing their own thing. Like I said, even when things didn't work out in terms of doing business together, the owner went out of her way for us and we were grateful for that. If I do end up buying a house on Cape Cod one day, this is the only company I'd call to set up cleaning.
