Even after showing the receptionist the e-mail and her confirmation of us having the appointment they thought that it was just a big laughing matter and told us that we could see a different person but after waiting an hour. No apologies were made and an arrogant attitude was give. to us after we asked about the wait from another individual that never even introduced himself. The receptionist was very unprofessional with very poor oral and personal igiene. Never going to this location again

I see you my fellow Yelper's and reviews are duly noted…read more Even though my appointment was only 15 minutes long, and without filing service, my experience was very good. I made my appointment online for some quick insight as I've been with my Accountant for over 20 years. However, I wanted to get some knowledge in state as he is out of state. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted, and asked to have a seat and that someone would be right with me. A few minutes later, I was greeted by Peter and taken back to his cubicle. I shared with him my inquiries, and the advertisements that I saw on TV, and he explained everything to me. Additionally, he did some internet due diligence to provide some extra 411 & cost comparisons...I got all of my answers. I decided not to utilize their services and will continue with my Accountant, I appreciate the time Peter took out to make sure I understood everything. Especially when it came down to the dollar making cents. :-) I appreciate the candor and the transparency of their services and fees, which too assisted me in deciding to stay with my current Tax Preparer. The office is a a small suite on the 1st floor of the shopping center, right below Traders Joe's. Besides one other employee, the office was empty. If the opportunity arises for me try this franchise service, or even their online filing services, I would definitely give them a try. Franchise is the key word, where you can choose a locations, especially if a speciality tax filing is necessary.

I was thoroughly underwhelmed. After being with a very bright, super-quick, superstar CPA for over…read more10 years in NYC, we moved to DC and were looking for a replacement. The good reviews led us to Jim Alley, but I must say they did not equal our experience. He MISSED our first teleconference appointment (great first impression), just literally did not show up. When I called him, it was clear he was out and he had forgotten, he said he'd reschedule. I've never had a business miss a call, especially without it being an emergency, and I've never seen such nonchalance for a paying customer. Unfortunately, the trend continued, with Jim taking days to respond to email, forgetting to send a Zoom link for our next appointment, sending an email to all customers the week before April 15 to say he has a family obligation and he might need to ask for tax prep extensions, etc. Good businesses have contingency plans. Also, lovely message to send paying customers - "hey, you're not my first priority". Had I known this was his philosophy, I wouldn't have picked him. No one contests the importance of family, but professionals (ourselves included) don't hide behind their personal commitments if they can't fulfill professional ones. Also decided to have an out-of-office during the holidays very late in the game (e.g. after we had already emailed him with questions) - if you know you're going to be unavailable, signal that promptly. Messages were often written with mistakes and lack of clarity, obviously put together in a very hurried manner or written on a phone, and required extra clarification, meetings were not efficient, he often forgot to answer questions we had sent, and quotes cited sometimes didn't make sense (e.g. he said it would take a few hours and cost $500 - $700 to research the tax obligations for green card holders for a specific country - I declined, and did that myself in a matter of minutes, and our previous CPA was able to answer such questions without any additional research). We had to mail checks with our tax payments ourselves, which we have NEVER had to do - our previous accountant would have the payments directly drawn from our bank account. Another nice touch of "here's the instructions, go pay your taxes". Thanks, but I'm paying you so that I don't have to do anything. By early July, we were still not done with taxes, and we had to message him repeatedly to check if we still needed to sign anything or if all necessary paperwork had been filed. The returns were finalized in mid-July (albeit with updates he kept making to them), and in December, we were still emailing him about our state tax refund, as we had not yet received it. We do not intend to use him again and will seek better options in the area (there are plenty). If a small operation run by someone who clearly has other priorities, takes his time and is not a very efficient communicator are not things that bother you, then go ahead, but just know what you're getting.

My needs are minimal but IMO, need a certain amount of finesse to get the job done. With filing state taxes in IL,VA and having a rental property in IL, I searched around for several CPAs to assist with my taxes. I found Jim after consulting several CPAs and he seemed to meet my needs at a market price. His marketing seems to be focused on SMB and dentists offices. I like that he is responsive through his mobile app/desktop portal for questions throughout the year. I like to be able to scan/upload photos of various tax documents and tag them for organization purposes. I also like the tax documents he produces for tax season and that he uses proprietary software for accounting (QuickBooks is bad!). I also use free software for accounting and gave him access, which has been helpful in situations. Perhaps this was due to a miscommunication, but I might have been initially overcharged at first for both tax preparation and accounting, when all I needed was tax prep. After clarifying with Jim, the annual amount was spread throughout the remaining months of the year. When I renewed my contract, my monthly payment adjusted for tax prep only. Highly recommended!

We met with the tax preparer and we walked through the standard tax forms. It was all a straight-forward process -- or so I thought. I later met with another tax preparation service on an unrelated matter and learned that Block Advisors had omitted a required form (related to the sale of real estate) off of my return. My partner called the office, thinking this would be a relatively quick fix and we were grateful that Block Advisors offers a free "second look" service to their clients. After repeated attempts to explain the problem to tax preparers who seem to have little to no actual knowledge of IRS forms and policy, several unreturned calls to the office manager, and months of radio silence, I've still not received a satisfactory answer to my questions. At this point we will most likely spend more time completing an amended tax return rather than continue wasting our time with Block Advisors. I could not in good conscience recommend Block Advisors to anyone.
