Lumitone shot our wedding in Berkeley in June 2008. My wife found them online, and after visiting their office and meeting Alex the decision was between having our friends shoot the wedding with handheld camcorders or to go with Lumitone. (The other videographers we had looked at were out of our price range). We ended up going with Lumitone and chose their ~$3000 package with some modifications. Overall, we're pretty glad we did.
QUALITY OF FINAL PRODUCT:
In the end, this is all that really matters, and we're very pleased with the resulting DVDs. Our wedding day was really hectic for us, and it's awesome to be able to see all the action you missed. Lumitone had some great detail shots (e.g. reception placecards, closeups of bride's accessories, centerpieces and bouquets, etc.) that helped fill in some of what the photographers missed. They also provided some really creative scenic shots and camera angles, such as a floor-to-ceiling whirling shot of our wedding cake. The highlight video (~15 min. long) is generally well-edited. Alex did some very creative splicing to match certain scenes with the lyrics of the songs we chose. The highlight video definitely tells the story of our wedding day. The uncut ceremony is also very high quality. We especially appreciate Lumitone's efforts to provide quality audio. Our ceremony site did not allow their cameras to connect to the main sound system, but Lumitone was prepared and gave me a lapel mic to be able to pick up all of our vows, etc. Lastly, as mentioned by other reviewers, Lumitone provides Blu-Ray discs as part of their standard packages, which is plus. The only complaint we have about the final product is that the DVD covers aren't that spectacular... the image on the cover is somewhat low-res, and the fonts don't seem as professional as the rest of the product.
EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH ALEX:
Working with Lumitone had its pros and cons. Some PROS:
- Generally quick turnaround time. Product was delivered in a timely fashion, and Alex is also usually very quick to respond to emails.
- Very pleasant and easy to interact with on the wedding day
- Flexible. For instance, we needed the audio from part of our ceremony before the whole DVD was ready, and Alex posted the mp3 file online for us to download
The CONS of working with Lumitone really can be summed up as insufficient communication. Alex tends to be pretty laid back, and we had to initiate dialogue on numerous occasions. For instance, in the weeks leading up to our wedding, Lumitone never "checked in" on us. We ended up sending them the detailed timeline and specific instructions on our own initiative. Once we initiated the dialogue his responses were helpful and he was easy to work with. I would also add that although the final product is very well produced, the process of working with Lumitone doesn't always feel highly "professional." One-sentence email replies are the norm, for instance.
So... in summary: Lumitone is a solid choice if you're looking for a quality wedding video without totally breaking the bank. If you are prepared to take initiative in communicating with Alex throughout the process, you will be happily rewarded with a wedding video to be proud of. read more
