I was a patient at Luminous Smiles for over 3 years and kept returning despite the pressure to spend more money and get the veneers they kept encouraging to get. I have a beautiful smile and was slightly offended. After the initial discussion about veneers, they would ask me at every cleaning when I wanted to get veneers. Most recently I had to reschedule an appointment because my son ended up in the Emergency Room two times and also had surgery, which was all in one month. As a mother, I put my son's medical needs before my dental work. I simply needed to postpone cavity work by a couple of months. Lisa, the office manager, was extremely rude and laughed at me when I was honest with her that I wanted to delay my dental work due to the sudden medical expenses for my son. Lisa said "it's only $***, it's not a big deal" and was belittling me. I asked her why she was trying to make me feel bad. Lisa continued to be blatantly rude to me. As I read the consistent reviews about Lisa being rude, I'm sad for their practice that they continue to have Lisa be the first point of contact and represent Luminous Smiles. I have an appointment in 1 week, but just received a letter (picture attached) from my insurance that Luminous Smiles dropped me! I have always shown up on time, paid on time and I thought that I had a decent relationship with Dr. Desai. If you're not willing to be a large stream of revenue for their practice, I strongly suggest looking somewhere else. read more

Maybe it's just my vibe but the hardest part about visiting Doc Desai is the insatiable desire to carry an incredible conversation with her. Unfortunately, her hands are in your mouth 95% of the time and so you're basically stuck on mute. Regardless, her casual demeanor, sophisticated intelligence, congenial disposition, and sincere empathy is worn on her white sleeves. There should be a lounge in reception for post-appointment drinks! Not surprised at all that she's accomplished the '40 under 40' for her profession. There isn't tech in that office over two years of age. The staff is superb (Lisa calls and follows up on insurance claims, reaches out without prompt to better fit my schedule, etc.) The office is intensely covid-safe. All the hygienists are fast, professional, courteous. In addition to cleanings, I had Invisalign treatments done there too. My face is just... superb now. I visited Dr. Desai at Luminous Smiles today for the first time. When I first walked in, it felt as if I had stepped into a spa but instead of getting my nails done I was about to get my teeth done! From checking in with Manny the receptionist to having x-rays completed by Jennifer the hygienist to having an through exam with deep cleaning with Dr. Desai, everything was absolutely perfect. The environment is calming and relaxing. Not something you would expect at the dentist office. There was a moment I dosed off as I waited for my mouth to become numb from the anesthesia. In my previous visits to a dentist office I would have been sitting there tense and clutching onto the chair. Dr. Desai is thoughtful in her process, she explains everything clearly, she is gentle and diligent during the procedure and you can sense her passion for dentistry. Worth the drive and every penny. I had an issue with a crown that was a few years old and I was referred by a close friend to Dr. Desai. Being that the office just opened, it was obviously spotless but it was also the nicest dentist office I have ever been in. You can tell that they really care about a patient's first impression. Overall, Jennifer and Dr. Desai were extremely friendly and made sure that I understood everything that was happening. Even with a new crown and some minor gum surgery, the most challenging part of my visit was filling out the paperwork. My son, then 4, hated going to the Dentist until he start seeing Dr. Desai. She has the best bedside manner, she always informs my son of her next steps which makes it easier for him. Plus he gets to watch his favorite show on the tv while getting his teeth cleaned. Prior to coming to see her, I embarrassing hadn't been to the dentist is years. From the moment I walked in the office everything went so smooth! Everyone in the office is so sweet and very helpful. The X-ray tech was so very nice and very gentle during all of the x-rays. Dr. Desai is an amazing doctor & very knowledgeable. She gave me a full in depth look at my teeth & what we could do to make them even better with a really interesting 3D machine. My cleaning went well also. The hygienist was very sweet & took her time with my teeth. I think this was the best cleaning I have ever experienced. She snaps at them and makes demands of them in front of the clients particularly when she is irritated. (In appearance and behavior she is reminiscent of that coach on Dance Moms, I think her name is Abby.)Dr. Desai is absolutely aware as I talked to her about the concern yet she oddly seems to protect Lisa and to her own shame makes you the problem & tries to refer you out. My insurance company tried to talk to their office about it but Lisa kept hanging up on their calls. It's all very baffling behavior as it's so unprofessional. I lodged a formal complaint. read more

I have never liked dentists, I get anxiety thinking about it and it's even worse when I actually have to go in and see one. Because of this, I've been extremely picky when it comes to choosing a dentist. Before signing up for my dental insurance, I looked around for the best dentist in Newport Beach and then looked at their websites, social media pages, and most importantly, their credentials. The only dentist that I found in a 50 mile radius that had amazing reviews, a modern office and graduated from a prestigious school was DR. Desai. Upon walking into the office, I was immediately impressed with the decore, you could tell that a lot of time and energy was spent to give the place the vibe it does. I immediately felt st home. The check in process was a breeze (they use an iPad for this and paperwork). When I was called back I was immediately greeted by Dr Desai. She was warm and welcoming which is a feeling I've never had from a Dentist. I was seated and talked to like a human being. She wanted to know about me before my teeth. Once we were done the assistant took my X-rays and did a fantastic job being gently. He took his time, was energetic, and you could tell he truly loved his job and where he worked. Upon the x rays being completed Dr Desai and I discussed next steps. The only feedback I have is to make sure you have a lot of time the first appointment. I had set aside two 1/2 hours and was still in a rush to get out of there. The treatment plan was rushed through because I had a doctor appointment I needed to go through. I also don't love that they want you to sign off on a treatment plan before you can take time to absorb it and ask to changes to the plan on timeline etc. then again this part was rushed so maybe it's done differently had I had more time. I look forward to coming back and having Dr Desai perform work to get my teeth to where I want them to be. read more

I've came here only three times for cleanings in the past year, and she always has a horrible attitude! I witnessed her rolling her eyes at one of the other workers just today - then was practically forcing me to sign a document for invisalign even though she was very clear about how my insurance may not cover this - why will I sign something authorizing you to begin treatment if that's not what I want? She made me feel so uncomfortable and kept saying she'll need me to sign the document due to company policy - not once have I ever been put on the spot to sign a document like this if it's just an estimate - she was smirking as I walked out. I didn't want to come back this year but due to COVID I didn't want to look around for another dentist. Horrible - may not come back here unless they fire Lisa - she ruins the entire atmosphere - and this company doesn't deserve that! read more

I don't know anyone who LIKES going to the dentist, but Dr. Desai makes the process as good as possible. She takes infinite care throughout, from the initial examination to the execution of the work. She is the first dentist that has developed a long-range plan and who took the time to explain how some things, like the movement of teeth over time, can impact the thinning of the enamel. I had heard about this office from a friend and how great it is but me but me being my skeptical self had reservations. So... I call and the lady Lisa that answered was patient with all my questions, she was so helpful and knowledgeable about my insurance she made me feel welcomed so I scheduled my first appointment. I gotta say I made the right choice. The first experience was amazing. You walk up to the door where Lisa greets you and takes your temperature (COVID-19!) and walks you in. Your then handed to the assistant who walks you into the room. Then Dr Desai comes in and right away I knew for sure I definitely went to the right place. Dr Desai was sooooo nice! During the exam I felt comfortable and at ease. Dr Desai explained what I needed and did not mind any of my questions. The office is super clean, bright and beautiful. It's been a few years that my family & I have been patients of this office. With the COVID pandemic, I'm sure many are fearful of going back to the dentist. Your fears should be allayed at Luminous Smiles. Dr. Desai has all the appropriate protocols in place to maintain a sanitary environment to treat your dental needs! The number of patients/people in the office are minimized to only those w/appointments. Temperature scans and health questionnaires are required at each visit. Dr. Desai even mentioned she purchased a few new air evacuation systems to decrease the amount of aerosols produced during treatment. Hate having impressions taken? No worries here! She has a cool dental instrument that scans your teeth without that gag-producing impression material! So easy. So simple!
