Here is the amount of time I spent on the phone trying to reach my insurance BECAUSE OF LUMINOUS DERMATOLOGY!
    Sheryl S.

DO NOT go here. I have been a patient at Luminous Dermatology for at least 10 years now. I've had numerous procedures due to a lifetime at the beach. I have no complaints about any of the doctors (I have seen Dr. Dill, Dr. Gammon and Dr. Kamalpur, they were all wonderful) until yesterday. I was coming in for a spot on my leg and I was told they didn't have any appointments until October (it was June when I was making this appointment) and I had to fight to get in earlier. You cannot mess around with skin cancer. I was scheduled with a new doctor I have never seen, and I said ok, because I just needed to get in there. He was young and haughty. He was didactic and condescending in his tone, as if he were speaking to someone who didn't have an education or couldn't understand him. I looked him in the eye and let him know that I was unequivocally following what he was saying. It didn't matter, he continued on in his attitude. Whatever, I can handle an annoying doctor who is full of himself, what I couldn't take was how the office messed up my insurance. My insurance had changed, which happens, so when I was making the appointment, I called ahead to set it all up and make sure everything was smooth sailing. I got my referral and gave them my new info, I should have been set. The day of the appointment they text me saying that my insurance was "inactive". So I panic and get on the phone with my insurance company and try to get through. I spent TWO AND A HALF HOURS ON HOLD, stressing out, wondering if I could be seen for what was probably cancer. I never got through. By the end of it, I was in tears, because I needed this appointment with my history of skin cancer! Turns out there was no problem at ALL with my insurance, but someone on their end dropped the ball! I was furious. Then they call me and ask me to change MY schedule and come in an hour earlier so the doctor could go to a personal appointment. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, Luminous Dermatology!! Your patients should NEVER have to endure what I did yesterday. I am officially searching for a new dermatologist after years of coming here. SHAMEFULLY BAD.

Because of this, I felt extremely embarrassed and insecure about my feet, scalp, and hands for my entire adult life (literally never even wore sandals to the beach). When I went to see Dr.Grossman, I did not expect to experience anything different, but instead I was met with the utmost professionalism and kindness. Not only did she diagnose me immediately, but she patiently answered my many questions and offered real tangible solutions. In 3 weeks I have seen massive changes and this morning Dr.Grossman told me that now, after years, my psoriasis is in remission. This afternoon I wore sandals to the beach for the first time in 10 years and I could not be more happy. A tremendous thank you to the whole team and I absolutely recommend Cal Dermatology.

Dr. Grossman put my mind at ease and gracefully biopsied it (I didn't even feel the sting of lidocaine), with the benign results back in about 48 hours. She also recommended I come back for a skin cancer screening given my age (mid-30s) and childhood spent in the south. I was nervous, but she was extremely thorough and reassuring, taking the time to explain my moles and spots. After the screening, she sat with me for about ten minutes going over even my smallest skin concerns (why do my lips break out after I kiss my cat? etc.) and recommending products to build a healthy skincare regimen. Dr. G doesn't rush through appointments and seems eager to make a personal connection with you. She's not happy until you're satisfied with your skin. Also, the office staff is great and I've never waited for more than five minutes or so. I highly recommend Cal Dermatology!

Bad billing practices, MD can't see the forest through the trees…read more Aug 2025, routine visit. Told I am OBLIGATED to have credit card in database otherwise MD REFUSED to see me. I have both Aetna and Blue Shield of CA insurances and I am an existing patient. Told MD that in 2024 I was overcharged and did not want to enter credit card in database. Again, MD REFUSED to see me until credit card was entered into database. MD stated he had over $100,000 in unpaid receipts from 2024...not my problem. I had credit card entered into database and also paid by credit card in person after the visit. I was told to submit receipt to insurances for cost recovery. Less than 3 days post visit: two separate charges for same visit appeared on credit card. MD office overcharged me, as they did in 2024. Visa verified August 2025 overcharges. Neither MD 3rd party billing nor MD office had a record of their overcharge. I have now spent over 1 hour 30 minutes to rectify their error from a 15 min visit. Regardless of quality or continuity of care, alienating immediately-paying well-insured clients is not a sound business practice.

He didn't seem to have the least amount of interest in seeing me. For the follow up, he looked at my finger, which was the reason for my appointment. He said he didn't have any idea about my issue and told me to go to another doctor, then left the room. Usually when doctors can't help patients, they give you a referral to another doctor. He did not. Seemed to care less. Very disappointing. I'm not going back to him ever again. Also, there are no confirmations for any appointments, which is very unusual and disappointing.

Do WHATEVER IT TAKES to have this amazing woman be your dermatologist! As most of us know,…read moredermatological appointments generally need to be at least one month out, often two. New to the area, my daughter was graduating high school the Friday before Memorial Day. She had noticed a blemish on her skin several days earlier and we managed an appt elsewhere for early July. Then the blemish turned into a rash all over her chest and back. While I knew it wasn't life threatening, she was clearly upset and worried and anxious. Worse it was the morning of her special day, one she'd worked towards her whole life. A wonderful counselor at UCSB (where my daughter is now a rising freshman) recommended this place and I left a detailed message imploring them to make room for her same day, but I was not hopeful. And then a lovely young man (Kyle if I recall correctly) called me back and said we could come in! Wow!!! The facility is gorgeous, beautifully decorated in a clean, modern-meets-farmhouse style. We felt so welcomed and then met Dr. Klemperer and fell head over heels in love. She instantly put my daughter at ease and simultaneously made a nervous mother feel validated in some minor hovering and we left a half hour later happy campers. On to watching our calm daughter graduate with Honors!! And how exciting to have found our forever dermatologist! Thank you Dr. Klemperer...

First of all, Novatt had some of the worst bedside manner I've ever experienced with a doctor. Really impressively poor. I remember when I switched to Frucht, it was night and day. Frucht was so warm, so kind, so patient, and super respectful. If it weren't for Frucht, I'd have left the practice. Let me say first, I believe, wholeheartedly, that Dr. Frucht is a great doctor. He knows his stuff, he's incredibly intelligent, and I really can't say a single bad thing about his ability to treat skin effectively. Unfortunately, his personality as a doctor has really changed since I first began seeing him. He's still very respectful, however I get the sense that he's become a bit jaded. I used to feel like I had his full attention and all the time in the world. I used to feel like he really, truly cared about me as an individual. As the years have passed though, I've felt less and less like I matter. I've noticed myself feeling more and more like a number on a page -- he's in and out, totally rushed. If I have a question he's almost literally one foot out the door while I'm talking. There's no warmth anymore. He's still friendly, but it feels less intimate and genuine. Like he's a bit detached. I don't know, maybe he's just burned out. It does seem like they have a pretty substantial patient load. I agree with many of the other reviewers here regarding the front desk. They're awful. Unfriendly, short, no sympathy for patients. I called once to let them know I was stuck in traffic and would be 5 minutes late. They said 5 was okay, but anymore and they'd have to cancel my appointment. I got to the office exactly 5 minutes late but the person at the desk was on the phone. By the time they hung up it was 7 minutes late and they said they would have to cancel because it was 7 past. Insane. Also, good luck getting an appointment if it wasn't booked out months in advance...even if it's an urgent reason. They don't care at all. Between the horrible office staff and Dr. Frucht becoming more and more jaded, I've made the decision to find care elsewhere. I'm truly grateful to Dr. Frucht for the care he's given me over the years -- there's no doubt he's a good doctor and i think a good person. I really hope he finds his way back to how he was.

We drove 45 mins to get there and we were 4 minutes late in which we called to let them know. We were placed on hold for a very long time. I said ok we are within that time . They said no sorry. I said we drove 45 minutes to be here and my daughter is going back to school out of state in a few days. I was very disappointed and not once when I scheduled the appointment did they say arrive extra early . Never in my life have I been rejected from an appointment for 4 minutes late I would not recommend this establishment
