Server finally arrived with an excuse of not being told we were i his section. We ordered drinks and an app, when the app was delivered with no side plates we should have realized the waiter was not well schooled in hospitality. My meal was delicious and once they finally brought the Lobster ( not battered fish) my wife ordered it was good as well. No follow up from the waiter to ask if everything was ok or if we wanted any additional drinks or desert. We waited for at least 10 minutes without an offer of desert or a refresh of our drinks. Had to visit the bar to request our check. Summary, meal was fine service was not! Hard to see past the poor service to rate it anything but a 2 star.

The Algonquin Clubhouse NOT The Smokehouse BBQ & Bar…read more We stopped in recently with a group of six, thinking we were going to The Smokehouse BBQ & Bar, but it turns out it's now called The Clubhouse. The name has changed on the hotel's pages, but most places online still show the old name, so we had no idea the menu was completely different. We found out the smokehouse setup broke, so they removed the outdoor smoker and have no intention to replace it. The service was great -- our waitress was super friendly and kept checking in on us, which we really appreciated. But the food was hit or miss. Three of our meals were decent, the other three... not so much for what we paid. The fish and chips came with one big piece of fish, the lobster roll was more of a minced mix instead of nice chunks like you'd expect, and the burger was pretty basic. On the flip side, the chicken burger was really good, but the nachos were tough and hard to eat. The French Fries were very good, which came with every meal except the nachos. Overall, the staff did a great job, but we were disappointed that the smokehouse menu we were looking forward to is gone -- and we've heard from others that they felt the same way. Not sure we'd go back unless things change, but hopefully management takes the feedback to heart.

Ambience was pretty non existent as it is a gold club unless you like rich guys yammering about their strokes but that wouldn't be annoying if the food was good.
