As with most places in Savannah, this had such a hip vibe to it, and depending on how 'hip' it is, depends on the type of experience I have had. Thankfully, it wasn't so hip that it took itself too seriously. After a longer than normal wait for someone to acknowledge us, we were warmly greeted and offered a table or a couple of seats at the bar. Since we were at a bar, after all, we bellied up and waited for someone... Okay, let's get to it: Service at the bar was super friendly and patient with our questions, and we strategically sat (by dumb luck) where we could watch the staff make the different orders, which was interesting to do. We each ordered their Lulu Martini - a chocolatey, boozy concoction I would describe as a cold version of a hot chocolate with alcohol in it. It was delicious. My cohort chose the Strawberry Suspension Cake, while I picked their Pecan Praline Pie (we were in Savannah, so when in Rome...) with a side of their homemade caramel ice cream. Both choices were delectable. I even asked about buying a whole pie, but it was prohibitive considering the cost - though I was told they have a store "nearby the mall" where I can buy them at half (or so) the cost than getting it at this location. That was nice of them to let me know. If you're looking for a unique place to drop in while in Savannah, this certainly fits the bill. Lulu's Chocolate Bar is another place in Savannah that I have been trying to get to for a while now. Lulu's definitely lived up to my expectation, I was very pleased with our dessert and drinks! The salted caramel martini came with a salted rim on the glass. The staff was wonderful -- friendly and polite. They gave me a chocolate dipped strawberry with a candle on a silver platter as it was my birthday. Lulu's is one of few establishments in Savannah who is actually taking Covid practices seriously. No mask, no entry. They will let you order to go or sit outside however. Customers are required to wear a mask while ordering and are encouraged to pull up the menu on their personal device. We were sat at a cozy table right in front of the window and started to take in all the choices of desserts and various cocktails. Chocolate martinis GALORE! Their seasonal cake was black forest and I simply couldn't resist- I paired it with a chocolate covered cherry martini and was blissfully happy. John went with the white chocolate coconut cheesecake (I think I got that right) and paired it with a chocolate macaroon martini. Ohhhh my!!! My cake was heaven but John's cheesecake- I am very picky about cheesecake, I make a delicious homemade one and I am usually disappointed- but not in this case! His cheesecake was simply amazing. Two of my friends said we had to go to Lulu's Chocolate Bar for Dinner so off we went. We were promptly greeted by by a gentleman with a beard and seated. The décor is great in here! I love the whole pin-up theme. The service was friendly but there was a call out and this server had a billion tables so service was slow. I am not knocking points for this. She was working hard! My husband had the 'Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie' with a black coffee with a touch of toffee nut syrup. He loved his whole dessert. I ordered the 'Strawberry Suspension Cake' which is states it's: "two layers of rum-brushed chocolate cake with a center of mascarpone cheese with strawberries suspended inside. A sleeve of chocolate holds the cake together on the outside." First of all, it is a beautiful cake and a beautiful slice. The strawberries were fresh and delicious but the cake itself was not good. It had a very sour taste to me and I tried to get past it, but just couldn't. I asked my husband to taste it and see if I was just crazy and he said, "It has no taste. period" I love desserts and I may have just gotten a bad piece or bad cake that day but it was just so disappointing. One of the waitresses says there are only 2 of them. That should make it harder to be confused about when a new customer comes in and waits to be seated and is seated at a table. I put a lot of effort to find this chocolate shop and a lot of effort to find a place to park and to walk to the kiosk to pay in the rain. What a great idea and a great execution of the idea. Lulu's beat my expectations. My wife came on a date night here while we were in Savannah. There wasn't really a wait when we came so we were seated at a small table at the back of the restaurant. It was a great view of all that was happening. We decided to go with a couple of drinks and a slice of praline pecan pie as we're from Los Angeles and we're told that pecan pie is at its finest in Georgia. We totally agree! Sometimes pecan pie can be overbearingly sweet, however I'm happy to say that this one was not. It came warm served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a little bit of whip cream and it was just perfect! I have no idea what is in the crust, but I wish I did so I could replicate it and use that as a crust at home. I got the sipping chocolate which tasted a lot like a chocolate fondue that my wife and I make it so I was in heaven. My wife had some sort of a coconut martini that was chocolatey and delicious! Talk about a great way to end an already wonderful day exploring Savannah. Our experience at Lulu's Chocolate Bar was quite a let down in April. There was almost zero customer service for a number of reasons. We were not greeted when we walked in, told if we could sit down considering the sign read to, "please wait to be seated," but were scoffed at when inquiring about getting a table or sitting at the bar. An individual was also consistently texting on their phone rather than paying attention to customers. The individual assisting at the bar counter made zero conversation requiring us to initiate to even ask how they were doing, and finally, only one person was apparently able to make beverages who was in the back office rather than helping which created quite a wait. I'm not sure if the staff was "green" or they were all having an "off night," but this felt highly unacceptable. It's too bad, too, because the espresso martinis we eventually received, our whole purpose of visiting in search of one in the area, were really good, and the ambience was pretty nice. If we ever make it back to Savannah, I hope for a much better experience. read more

There is one step up into this place, but so far, those with strollers or wheelchairs have no problem with it at all. Bathrooms could be updated just a bit. Wonderful art collection. I almost always get the gluten free chocolate torte. Once, I ate all of one those entire tortes... if you can imagine that, you know I like my desserts and that chocolate is at the top. They have a wide variety of drinks and if you can hit happy hour (4-6 pm, I think), you get $2 off the martinis. Their wide array of chocoholic martinis are ... the bomb! You should def take your inlaws and outlaws that "don't like to drink" to sip yours as that lil' story will che.. che.. Change! Service: always on spot! Quick, helpful, patient and polite! You can't go wrong here. Even if it's a to-go order, they are on it! I hate going downtown. And worse, finding/paying for parking. The folks working there act like they are put out that you are there and are rather unpleasant. Our last visit took us 45 minutes to get two martinis.
