my teenage daughter and I stopped in to purchase some tops for ourselves and a friend. The store is cute and it has a decent amount of inventory. We ended up buying over $150 worth of items but would have bought more If we had been greeted with a hello or even a smile . We were never asked if we needed help or had questions. I was recently visiting my sister and she took me here for my birthday. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I had only an hour to spend here before an appointment, and thank goodness I did because I would have maxed out every credit card. The clothes are adorable, the jewelry is exquisite and the local art is captivating. I honestly could not contain myself. As the saleswoman was ringing up my purchase, I tossed two more necklaces on the counter... All in the name of fashion, of course... Basically, I love this place. Soooo.. I was visiting from out of state and when we got in town we took a walk on the 24-hour pier and I used the bathroom in the little pier shop which is also open 24 hours which is awesome in itself, and I saw an advertisement for this place on the back of the bathroom stall and saw the prettiest dress and I just HAD to have it. So next day we checked out this shop and y'all!!!!! They have the cutest stuff that everyone would ask where you got it from kind of stuff. I showed the girl working there a photo of the dress I saw and she helped me find it but unfortunately they had none left in my size and it was on sale so y'all know everybody already snatched up that dress like cash at the strip club. I'm so sad they didn't have my size but I got another dress that was just as cute and also on sale. I can't wait to wear it!! The associate was very helpful and called their other store to see if they had the one i originally wanted but they didn't but I appreciated her effort. You've got to go here!!! This boutique is a true gem in the Wilmington community:-) I first visited a few years ago shortly after the opening and I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing selection of truly unique items. The walls are covered with the stunning work of local artists and shelves are adorned with beautiful baubles created by local hands. Over the years I have visited time and time again and I have never minded making the hour long drive to what has become my favorite fashion oasis. The girls that work there have always been patient with my indecisive nature and I always feel fabulous about my choices when I leave. This is a cute place but kind of expensive at least for the average person. To make matters worse, I live in Raleigh and purchased an item on June 23rd that I needed to return or exchange for store credit. Since I do not live in Wilmington I was going to take in the item on July 15th when I went to Wilmington again and was told there is no credit or refunds after 15 days. No exceptions. "Ripped Off" Lula Balou of Wilmington, North Carolina boasts their shop as a "unique boutique." They are indeed unique; unique from other boutiques in Wilmington due to their lack of regard for customers. Recently, I purchased a silk dress from this shop. I wore this dress to a major dining function in Raleigh, North Carolina. The seam began to unravel at this event. I spent the entire night seated! I made an effort, with the receipt, to exchange the dress. I did not ask for a refund. The clerk was very nice, but the manager (possibly owner) was absolutely horrid. She seemed angry at me rather than eager to help. She accused me of ripping the dress. Now, who would rip a dress and attend a party with 300 people. Really! I wore this dress, it fell apart, and they refused to acknowledge the low quality of their product. When I examined the dress up close, other parts of the seam were very weak. It appeared as though the manufacturer used a traditional needle instead of a silk needle. When I shared this experience with my friend, she said, "The dress I bought from Lula Balou ripped." Save your money ladies and find a better boutique. Unlike other boutiques in Wilmington, Lula Balou does not stand behind service. I literally felt, "ripped off." read more
