Lucia Falls - Lucia Falls

Lucia Falls is tucked along the East Fork of the Lewis River. I stopped by on a spontaneous…read moreafternoon, and it felt like stepping into a sanctuary, untouched corner of nature. The walk in is easy, about a 1‑mile loop with gentle gravel paths, enough shade to feel cool but also patches where sunlight filters through the trees in the most beautiful way. I saw a woman with her stroller here, but had leave it half way through because there is an upward path. When I reached the waterfall, I was struck by how graceful it was, the river cascades over a basalt-rock ledge, wide and steady. One of the most magical things..the park is a front-row seat for steelhead trout leaping upstream. There are picnic tables nearby, so I ended up opening up my book and just reading, listening to the water, hearing frogs, and feeling completely grounded. And honestly sometimes running away from bees! Oh the great outdoors! But a very important heads-up: no swimming allowed. The area near the falls is a sensitive fish spawning ground, and the park strictly protects it. Parking is easy enough and the park is open from 7a.m. to dusk. If you're looking for a peaceful afternoon where you can unwind, enjoy a modest but lovely waterfall, go visit Lucia Falls.

There were a lot of people enjoying picnics at the abundant picnic tables that are on the site. The waterfalls were really great. I enjoyed watching the people walk down by the Falls and the children. There is no fee to come and visit this waterfall. I recommend it if you are looking for relaxing afternoon in a great view.

I already knew the Portland Japanese Garden was a must-see, and it definitely didn't disappoint!…read moreThis place is beautiful, peaceful, and full of gorgeous scenery. When you first enter, you make your way up a pretty steep hill surrounded by tall trees and lush greenery. Along the way, you cross a glass bridge and climb some stairs that take you past the Umami Café, Japanese Arts Learning Center, gift shop, and a few other buildings before you enter the actual garden. The garden opened to the public in 1967 and covers 12.5 acres, so there's plenty to explore. Be prepared for some winding paths, a few super narrow walkways, and some steep inclines and descents. Some of my favorite spots were the Sand and Stone Garden, Zigzag Bridge, koi pond, Moon Bridge, and Natural Garden. Everywhere you turn, there's something beautiful to see. I highly recommend you put the Japanese Garden on your 'must see' list. It's well worth the visit!

Hubs & I love visiting Japanese Gardens whenever we get the chance. Portland Japanese Garden is…read morequite unique in that it can take advantage of its location within Washington Park and all its trees add to its beauty. I also love looking at bonsai trees, and the collection here did not disappoint. Loved the sand garden. The entire layout was a bit smaller than I imagined from the guide. There are a few steeper / hilly climbs, so I would recommend wearing good walking shoes. I wouldn't say this is the most handicap/wheelchair friendly, though they do have a shuttle that can take you up from the ticketing area to the main garden entrance...but inside the garden there are some spots that have a lot of stairs and some paths & walkways are quite narrow. They have their own designated parking lot that seems to fill up fast. We found parking near the Rose Garden and walked over. It's incredible to think that this garden is just a mile or so away from the city! They also have a tea house and a cute gift shop. A couple of restrooms available located throughout the garden.

Amazing time!!! One of the best days ever! Truly made my Summer!…read more Pay to park all day. We got the adult unlimited rides wristbands which we found worth it. We loved the Cosmic Crash bumper cars, the Ferris Wheel which had an amazing view of the park, the Go Karts of course, the fast Rock & Roll ride with great music, and the Carousel. Our favorites were the rollercoaster which we did twice, I did the Zero Gravity ride twice which was fun and surprisingly relaxing too, and we loved the adrenaline rush of the AtmosFear ride. We chose the 180 option. Definitely will try the 360 option next time. Great they have those two choices. We stayed for hours. Clean park. Bathrooms were clean. Plenty of food and beverage options available. Merch for sale. Kiddie rides, family rides, adult rides. Great for groups, family, kids, teens, adults, couples. Soooo fun! Such a relaxing time but a super fun day and a great date activity. Waits for rides were not long, people were respectful, and staff were efficient. Can't say anything about the food as we ate before coming to the park so we didn't try anything but next time I would love to give the classic elephant ears a try! My day spent here definitely felt like an escape. A place to leave your worries behind and just have a good time. Such a thrill! Highly recommend Oaks Amusement Park. I would love to come back, I had an amazing time!

It was not great. My best friend grew up in Portland and said she'd been here many times growing…read moreup, but had never taken her own kids even though they live less than an hour away. I guess that should have been a clue. You can buy a bracelet, or individual tickets for rides. If you're accompanying a child under a certain age, you are able to buy a bracelet for a lower price. There's a handful of kid rides that kids can go on if they meet the height requirement. There's also a game area, with carnival-like games. But they're freaking expensive; we played the pond one since it was a guaranteed win and the odds of a 3 year old playing any of the other games successfully are pretty low. But it was 6 bucks. There were 3-4 other games in that area. It wasn't a very extensive park. And when we went on a Friday in August, there only seemed to be one of the food trucks open--the boba truck. So that was disappointing. But luckily they had other food, and that food wasn't too bad. Parking isn't bad. There's lots of it and it's cheap, I think it was $2. Check out their website for their BOGO (or discounted?) bracelet days.
