They were good and then they started making them in a factory, freezing them and shipping them to stores, and they are now terrible. I have been to a lot of specialty donut shops and it always seems like they make crazy flavours with tons of toppings to justify the super high prices. At Zehrs, you can get old school donuts at amazing old school prices! $1 a donut when you buy 6! You can also buy single donuts from the self serve case. I have tried the glazed (think Krispy Kreme original), Chocolate Eclair/Long John (yeast donut with "whipped cream" and chocolate glaze), Glazed Persian (This Thunder Bay remake has no pink icing, just a tasty cinnamon donut), Old Fashioned Cake (needs some nutmeg and a bit more moisture to be perfect), Apple Fritter (decent but San Remo still makes the best Apple Fritter) and hands down the best donut Zehr's offer: the Raspberry jelly filled donut - a super soft yeast donut filled with raspberry jelly (and I mean FILLED) and topped with powdered sugar... my only complaint is it has a lot of powdered sugar, but I just brush it off before eating, so I don't end up wearing it all! Because I don't live in Bradford, I actually order in advance and they are always happy to accommodate! The store itself is a nice store, part of the Loblaws brand, and they are the only store near me that sell PC Caramelized Onion and Balsamic Kettle Chips, which is one of hubby's faves.
