My husband was attracted by the Michelin Bib Gourmand signs displayed outside, although I noticed they were for 2022-2024, not 2025 or 2026. I also checked Yelp and saw that they had a 4.3-star rating, so we decided to give it a try. It turns out Tortello only accepts walk-ins and does not take reservations. You order from the menu board behind the cashier and pay at the counter, including the tip, before your food is served. You are then given a number to place on any available table. Drinks are picked up from the counter, while the servers bring the cooked food to your table. Staff were friendly and patient. We were not familiar with the menu and it took us a while to decide what to order. It is a rather small pasta place with a row of small tables with banquette and chair seating indoors. We found a table on the outdoor patio in the front which was nice. I had a Zero Proof Hugo Spritz ($10), which was more like a soda. My husband had a glass of House White Wine ($10), and my daughter ordered an Aperol Spritz ($15). For food, my husband and I each ordered a Squid Ink Bucatini ($32 x 2) - Prawns, roasted tomato butter, cherry tomatoes, and garlic scrapes. It was also recommended by the cashier. The flavors were good, but each plate had only 3 prawns, with the detached heads included, which made the plate look a little more filled. My husband felt that the prawns weren't particularly fresh and said that 1 of his 3 seemed close to being stale. Portions were not large, it was enough for me though. For this price point, it was just okay. My daughter did not complain about her Cacio e Pepe ($24) - Spaghetti alla chitarra, imported aged pecorino and pepper. I shared a couple of bites, although the pasta was tasty, it was too al dente and hard to chew. Although we enjoyed the ambiance and service, the food of the night was a bit disappointing. A casual meal that cost $140 before tip was a bit on the pricier side. It included a 3% "Wellness Surcharge". With tips the meal came to $160. We had desserts from the Original Rainbow Cone right next door, which was a nice way to finish the evening. .

Luigi's Pizza & Pasta: Authentic Italy Spreads to the Burbs of Chicago. From the excellent service, to the handmade pasta and pizza, Luigi's offers a little taste of Italy in a big way. Location Location Location After moving to Plainfield over 7 years ago, I was always looking for a restaurant that could become a special date night location. In other words, I wanted to find a local place where my fiancé and I could enjoy a special night out with consistently good food, and even better customer service. Luigi's opened just over a year and a half ago, but we only recently discovered this little gem in the heart of Plainfield IL, right off of US Route 30 and Lily Cache. Downtown Plainfield is located a few minutes west on Route 30, which makes it a convenient place for anyone to come in and enjoy a delicious meal. First Impressions Although Luigi's Pizza and Pasta is located in a strip mall (which I usually have a hard time finding), we were able to find it quite easily as it is off of a main road. The restaurant is tucked into the corner of the shopping center, found easily when scouting for the decorative lighting around the windows. The main dining area is well decorated and gives patrons a warm/cozy feeling, as if visiting a friend's house for dinner. My fiancé and I were lucky enough to sit at the table with the picture of Mr. Luigi himself, and we were treated with tales of how the restaurant came to be, from our lovely hostess and manager, Carla. Food We originally went to Luigi's Pizza and Pasta after we came across a Groupon while we were looking for some local places to dine at. When we sat down we noticed a small stand on the table which detailed how fresh and made-to-order all of the food at Luigi's is. My fiancé and I were at first skeptical of this loosely used promise other restaurants have given and never seem to deliver upon, but this fortunately was not the case at Luigi's. The food was fresh, it came out hot, and tasted incredible. Carla, our friendly hostess for the evening (and one of the reasons we keep coming back), encouraged us to try the deep dish pizza. The small 10" cheese pizza more than filled us up, and for not being a deep dish pizza fan, I was surprised by how much I liked - no loved it. In addition to pizza, we had the breaded ravioli for an appetizer which came out fresh and crispy in texture with perfectly melted cheese in the center, served with a side of marinara sauce. We were warned that the pizza would take 20-25 minutes, which after having tasted it, we were glad to have waited. While waiting for our pizza, we enjoyed a few "adult beverages" as they serve wine and beer. Admittedly, it would be nice if they had a full bar, but the selection is works since we all know that beer and pizza go together like Oreos and milk. Speaking of dessert food, don't pass it up at Luigi's. Their homemade canoli's are perfectly made to order, and delicious! After receiving the bill, I was impressed that for 5 beers, a pizza, and an appetizer, it was only around $30. If you are looking for over-priced Italian food, look elsewhere, because Luigi's has some of the fairest prices I've seen at an authentic Italian eatery...period. Service So food and atmosphere aside, the reason we keep coming back to Luigi's is for the outstanding customer service. Anytime I go to a restaurant I think about how I was treated, not just the quality of the food. Service can make or break the desire and overall experience for myself when dining at a new restaurant. I think most people want to feel that they are not only welcome because they are spending money, but genuinely welcome because of who they are. Luigi's overextends that welcoming attitude upwards of 100%. Our server was good, but I was most impressed by how the manager and part owner, Carla, ran the restaurant. She was on the floor watching, directing, helping (wiping tables, busing, etc.), but most importantly being a part of the dining experience. When Carla came over she greeted us with a smile, asked how everything was, and made sure we had an ample supply of "adult beverages." To my surprise, she was doing this with ALL the tables that were currently dining at Luigi's Pizza and Pasta. Because of Carla's hospitality, we have made Luigi's our "Date Night" eatery of choice from here on out. Overall Recommendation I love Italian food, and tend to be a harsh critic because I am Italian. I would not recommend a restaurant that does not meet the standard of quality I expect from Italian eateries. Luigi's Pizza and Pasta in Plainfield IL delivers just that, great authentic Italian cuisine with welcoming service and comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend coming in for some delicious pasta, or at least ordering a Chicago style deep dish to-go for your next, "What the heck are we doing for dinner," night. read more
