Once we checked-in, and found out there was no wi-fi, I went to my room to settle in only to find out the TV didn't work. I asked to switch rooms when they told me there were no other (clean) rooms available. I threatened to change motels if they couldn't fix the TV. Well, they couldn't fix the TV but then decided to offer me another room. As I was switching rooms the employee told me that it was hard to keep working TVs in the rooms as they kept getting stolen by customers. TMI. I went to the other room and discovered the TV did work, however, it only had 4 working channels; TCM, BYU (Brigham Young University), Freeform and Fox News (?). $80 a night? When checking in (at the gas station across the street), we were upgraded to the 'deluxe room' - two queen beds, baby! And free fountain drinks for hotel guests at gas station. Small discount at Ludlow's best (& only) diner... when we went, there was a public health notice about uranium in the water. After tasting the coffee, gave up & decided death by slow poisoning wasn't worth it for watered-down, week-old coffee grounds. Hubby asked why I took him to this 'hole'. Worked perfectly for us. We booked a stay as we were attending a neon sign lighting event in Chambless, just a few towns down Route 66 from Ludlow. The motel is older and yes, you check in at the gas station across the street. The restaurant next-door offers you a 10% discount if you stay at the motel. No, there aren't any bells and whistles or fancy accommodations. And the room cost less than $100 for the night. If you are traveling Route 66 and need a stopover for the night I recommend the Ludlow motel. read more

In its "class"...which in this case includes being located out in the middle of nowhere AND $52 for one bed...this place is a GEM! Super clean! NO WIFI but I have a Sprint signal in the room. And there appears to be cable TV. No phone in the room. This is A very old hotel that the owner is in the process of upgrading slowly. Clean paint good carpet, etc. But this place is not a remodeled doll house. I just love it ANYWAY! We are in ROOM 5. I should probably give this room 4 stars because the hot water is VERY SLOW to the sink and the toilet is VERY SLOW flushing and the you must hold the flush handle down a LONG TIME. The flushing can be fixed easily...the slow hot water probably not. Just be prepared...turn it on and let it run! We're here because it's near a location we need to be at early in the morning. However I would definitely stay here if I was just driving by. Here's the scoop! You check in across the street at the Chevron where they actually had my reservation and DID find it...even though weeks had passed! They let me check out the room first. VERY CLEAN. The whole exterior looks like it has fresh paint. It's nice when the outside is clean too! And in this vintage type motel...very rare. Room SMELLS FRESH and CLEAN. No perfume deodorant smells here! This is a huge plus for us personally. Microwave + Refrigerator has a larger freezer than usual. We are told the whole town is owned by one person. So when you stay at the hotel you get 10% off your meal at the cafe next door AND FREE DRINKS...and oatmeal...basically anything that comes in a cup, from the Chevron mini mart store where you check in. KEEP YOUR HOTEL RECEIPT! This is very generous because they have a LOT of selections! I'm very impressed and looking forward to hitting the specialty coffee and hot chocolate machines in the morning. I'm including pics. The promise of the 1800's cemetery in walking distance didn't work for us because it's posted private property and further away than we wanted to walk. However Shawn, who cooks at the cafe, is a wealth of information about the town. He says there are a couple little spirits haunting the cafe...he catches glimpses of them out the corner of his eye. And sometimes he smells very strong sulfur...never good, according to Shawn! But he's been there 19 months and drives almost an hour to work there...so hopefully he will stay and continue to be a great source of Ludlow history. YES THERE ARE TRAINS. And yes I can hear them in the room. However Shawn claims they don't blow their horns and really the tracks are not super close. Oops, I just heard...they BARELY blow their horn in daylight. Probably not at all during the night? If it's a problem I'll update! But I don't think it will keep me awake. We'll see! I'm laying here listening to the train and it's actually a little romantic. I'm remembering my Amtrak trip. I think it's fine. Update...Trains were NOT any problem for US. I realize it's different for everyone. NORMALLY I'm critical of too few electrical outlets...such is the case here...however I'm still jazzed to have landed here tonight! Maybe because it DOESN'T smell of chemicals!!! How did this motel receive so many stats? Admittedly this town is interesting to check out for its historic place in the American west story...but... unless you're living a life below the overtly line, you may miss the luxuries of a muddle-class existence. Recent visit driving across country, it was 116 degrees on 7/15/23 and we felt blessed that they had a two bed room available that allowed our dogs. They did everything to accommodate us in the hot Mohave desert. We had dinner at the cafe and our room was cool overnight. So grateful for the friendly staff and the drinks and breakfast offered. This is a motel and we paid under $100 but it was an oasis in the middle of nowhere. Many thanks to the team running this fine motel! read more

This place is worthy of 5 stars simply for being what it is. The room was comfortable and very clean. Equipped with a microwave and a mini fridge + a nice flat screen Our room was non smoking which we appreciated and the heater worked, the staff at the gas station was friendly. Perks: * Ludlow Cafe right next door * abandoned graveyard from the 1800's within walking distance * 24/7 gas stations across the street * Dairy Queen * Historic Route 66 * Amboy Crater * Mojave Lava Tubes Will definitely stay at this real life version (minus the serial killer) of the Bates Motel again. I'm pretty sure these offerings are to help you pass the night in comfort while enjoying the trains rumbling past every 3 minutes. Don't plan on getting any sleep here. If the trains don't keep you from catching those z's the sketchy goings-on in the motel parking lot all night surely will. At least the air conditioner worked and the room was reasonably clean. I stay here once a year, sometimes more. I don't know what it is about this place, but I love it! So peaceful. So quaint. Amazing views of the night skies. The haunting sounds of distant trains, idling semis, and coyote songs help me drift to sleep. Check in is at the gas station, and your stay gives you free access to their soda fountain and slushees, as well as a coupon to the Ludlow Cafe. The rooms are cheap, pet-friendly, the toilets/showers function well, and it is relatively clean and bug-free. read more

Better than what I expected for $55/night for a room with 2 queen beds. Our room was super clean, smelled good, AC worked great. It was peaceful and quiet with very friendly staff and the perfect stop during our road trip. Our room had a small fridge with a freezer and a microwave too. There are only 10 rooms so I imagine it gets booked up pretty easily. No shower head, weird. Seems easy to remedy. Free water, coffee and fountain drinks at the Chevron across the street. read more

Nice to find a place at all in the area, and as establishments go this wasn't bad-I didn't even mind checking in via the gas station (and the free drinks and ice are a nice touch). BUT, I have to say the overwhelmingly pungent odor of cigarettes in the room throughout the night was a buzzkill. Plus we had some junebugs or some other aerial bugaboos pelting us and our lamp in the early evening. Ok so your options are limited out here, especially if you are riding Route 66 by bike in which case you pretty much have to stay here. Party of 5. We got a room with two queen beds and a twin for $71 dollars. It was adequate: clean and comfortable. There is no refrigerator, which was not so good for our fruit salad. After driving for 12 hrs we just needed a safe place to sleep. Despite the fact that this motel is right off the hwy, it's a safe place to stay also seeing as how it is also the only one in the area within about 45 min. $50 a night for a 2 bed. It has a refrigerator and AC. The beds are decent and clean. Only downside was the shower, it had no shower head. Overall its a good place and the owner is a nice guy. My sister-in-law made reservations for 2 rooms/5 nights about 2 months ago. She called the day before we were going to be there and she was told that they gave one of our rooms away. They suggested she call back and talk to the supervisor, which she did. She got someone different this time who told her that her reservations were good ( 2 rooms 5 nights). She called back a third time and indeed they had given away one of our rooms. So we cancelled our reservations. They didn't notify her. If my sister-in-law had not called we would not have known until we got there. We needed two rooms in the Ludlow area so we could not look anywhere else for a motel. Apparently there is a harvest festival in the area and someone needed a bunch of rooms for the workers. In the future I would not trust them. Have a plan B just in case when you get there you find out they have give away your room and you have not place to stay. read more

No it's not a five-star hotel but it does get five stars from me for exceeding expectations and being a very comfortable place to spend a night. Any of the people that I encountered at the Chevron station which also acts as the lobby for the motel were all very friendly and helpful. You can walk in with a little swagger knowing that you can show your hotel key as you walk out with free coffee, soft drinks pretty much anything that goes in to a cup. The front porch of the motel rooms area is clean. The bathrooms are clean. The walls are clean. The bed linens are clean. read more
