I stumble on a window, with the best jacket in the world. I enter. The jacket didn't fit, but the owner, Elise's warm personality and skilled eye did. She pushed me to try on things I would normally avoid. I walked out with a jacket, two seaters, some pants, a creative scarf that was unlike anything I'd seen, and even a pair of sunglasses whose accents complimented my nose piercings. Instead she produced a dress of extremely low quality with both low quality fabric and construction, that was no where near what we originally discussed. For my mom's dress, she said she would make the one my mom tried on in a different colour, but when my mom received it, it was so big it was falling off her and had weird gaping fabric because of how badly it was sewed (another seamstress said she couldn't even fix it). Claudette refused to acknowledge any of this and forced us to pay in full. Unfortunately Claudette does not have the best interest of her clients in mind - do not trust her.

Rush specializes in handmade bespoke dresses. There are many samples to try on in the front room, but the real magic happens when you speak with the designer to start customizing your gown. The price is also relatively affordable, ranging from $400-800, as far as I saw. Still a lot, but considering what wedding dresses go for these days, I was pleasantly surprised. Whether you're looking for a wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses or evening wear, Rush offers some beautiful, handmade and locally designed gowns.

I ordered the dress on a Thursday morning, paid for standard shipping and assumed it would arrive sometime next week since I live in Alberta. Imagine my shock when it arrived the NEXT DAY. Opened it up and everything was beautifully wrapped in ribbon with a beautiful note to boot. The dress is gorgeous - it will definitely need some hemming but I could not be more thrilled. I 100% will be buying from here again.

I had my dress shipped from Miami to Montreal and trusted her with all my heart. It was THE BEST decision I could have made. She helped turn my dress which I hated and looked old, in the vision I had from the start. She and Lily cared so profoundly about me, my mother in law and even my mother who tuned in through Facetime. They took the time to listen to them (and we know it's not easy to listen to two moms chatting about a wedding dress...) Most importantly, she listened to me. She kept me calm throughout the process, every seam was perfect. She was an absolute angel. In fact I loved her work so much that I ended up asking her to change up another dress of mine made of delicate organza. She sowed in flowers perfectly, turning a simple dress into a couture dress for me to change into while still looking like a princess. To say she goes above and beyond is an understatement... She literally came to my four-person wedding to make sure I had someone to fluff my dress right, put me in the dress, close each button carefully, if she had the chance to be there with me (but covid kept my mom away in NYC.) She is an expert in her field. Having worked in fashion and production, I can't speak too highly of how perfect each seam, each advice, each word was. I will never go to another seamstress and I can't wait to continue to build unique dresses I am COMPLETELY in love with.

They don't care about you or your dress, they care about your money. They finished my dress late and didn't even bother to contact me. While chatting during the fitting my tailor clearly didnt listen to a word a was saying. She also used a kitchen cleaning product to get a stain off my dress. Obviously it didn't work but made it worse. I can't get over what a half assed job they did on tailoring my dress. There is so much that I am frustrated about. I chose this place because it had a good reviews. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I finally let myself go explore this week, and now all I can think about is going back and giving them all my money. This lovely bright shop, all windows, is tucked just off of Beaubien on Henri Julien and has a ground floor full of beautiful local clothing design and lovely accessories and a few natural, small batch soaps. Aside from Betina Lou and Marmier, their men's wear line, they also carry pieces from Odeyalo and Amanda Moss who will make you look so chic and professional while you are secretly so goddamn comfortable it's like you're getting away with something.
