Well, no.
Frankly,…read moreI was lured into this clinic a few short months ago for a few reasons. I like the funky spine on the outside. It looks...quirky. It is close to where I live. So when I rang up to schedule a pregnancy massage to deal with a knot in my shoulder that won't quit, I had high hopes.
Most of which, were dashed. This was likely one of the most unrewarding massage experiences I've ever had. In my life, not just in London.
I should've known when I first called that this place was a little subpar in terms of customer service. The lady acted annoyed at my request, put me on hold for several minutes, sighed when she came back to the line and acted as if she was doing me a favor by allowing me to come in to pay for a treatment. Fine, ok. Sometimes receptionists can be a little cranky in the morning, I persisted and made the appointment.
I showed up (on time) -- and the receptionist (no idea if it was the same one) proceeded to complain about how sick she was, and how she shouldn't be expected to work in her condition. I could feel the germs trying to get me. This is not what you want to experience upon first walking through the door at a "healing center." Especially not while pregnant. Also, the place is outdated, full of furniture, papers stacked everywhere, etc. It doesn't exactly scream "relax." It's an old building and it feels old.
However, that knot was burning bright in my back and I still held out hope for a good rubdown to ease the tension. I've had some of the best massages in my life at places that look a little rundown, so hey...I'm in.
Unfortunately, as you already know...this was not the case. The room was small, cramped and cold. Facing Old Street...also LOUD. Not a relaxing atmosphere. My massage therapist kept commenting on how "HUGE" I was for being 7 months pregnant, even going so far as to ask if I was having twins. I mean, really? When you are lying there unclothed, not feeling terribly well in the first place, do you really want someone commenting on your size? No. You don't. It's inappropriate and downright rude. I should've probably just left but at this point, I was on the table. She did not have good people skills.
The massage was weak and limp, didn't seem particularly skilled....and the therapist droned on about her personal problems for the ENTIRE HOUR. I wanted to leave the entire time.
This is the place I learned that you can actually leave a massage appointment LESS relaxed than when you arrived. And pay 60+ quid for the pleasure.
Needless to say, I will not return based on this experience. From start to finish. For anything. I was really looking for a place I could come for chiropractic, acupuncture and massage, but this one is NOT going to be it.
