Luck Kee Hair could be the Burg's best-kept secret. Only been open for a few weeks (5? 7?), and I count myself as one of the lucky early clients. Four days ago I stumled across LKH while conducting other commerce in The Triangle. I made a mental note, and today I was a pre-meditated walk-in, having gone without cut or style for ~ 6 months. I showed Ms. Hockett a 1 1/2-year-old selfie I took after a cut/style. Not only did Kee recreate the style, she improved on it markedly, and gave me a passing semblance to Maggie Peterson! So my wife and I went here this past Sunday, I was needing a haircut and my wife saw this place so I said why not. When we entered the store we were immediately greeted by Mrs Kee, she was very happy and had two young boys that were next. She said it may be a few and if we would like to come back in around an hour, so we agreed and came back later. Mrs kee was very kind and took her time and did a excellent job on my hair, I highly recommend her and will be going back in the future! First of all: if you are an intolerant @$$hole, don't care to understand cultural differences, or have no patience in communicating w someone whose first language isn't English, do not go here! With that said, Luck Kee salon is the best around - all three males in our household have had their hair cut perfectly here. My teenage son showed her a pic of the cut he wanted, but she was honest in letting him know that he doesn't have the correct natural texture, which I very much appreciated. First and foremost, hella of a time trying to communicate with the lady, spoiler alert, she doesn't really speak English. Second and most important, the back of my neck was LITERALLY CUT AND INJURED BY HER! Like no bs, my neck started to bleed when I got home and it hurts. Amazing job on my boyfriend, myself, and our daughters hair. Their attention to detail and the end results were exactly what we were looking for. My boyfriend was in need of a cut after his hair and grown out, and it looked like they transformed him. As for myself, I needed a fix. I had someone I thought was a licensed hair dresser cut my hair and she cut a Bob into A mullet. After sitting down with these ladies my whole family walked out like a million bucks. read more

Kee is so wonderful and friendly! We understood she had appointments, but my boyfriend was able to get squeezed in between a couple, with no rush from her and still gave him a great haircut. It was so nice talking to her and made us feel so welcomed and comfortable. He plans on coming back as a regular now! She says her sister comes in on Fridays and Saturdays as it gets a little busier on the weekends. With her business being just a little over a year old, she's doing great! As a local, I definitely recommend getting your haircuts here. She also has two well behaved little doggos, who are so sweet and just keep to their own. Was on vacation and couldn't stand my hair a moment longer (no professional haircut in 1.5 years due to covid). Asked the resort staff for the name of a good salon. Chose Luck Kee out of the three names they gave me. So happy with my haircut. She took her time and gave me a new style based on the requirements/parameters I told her. I love it! New to the area and saw the reviews so I figured to give this place a try. Biggest mistake ever! I have long silky hair and wanted a trim and long layers (I wanted to keep my length). I showed the hairstylist the picture I wanted. It was a simple haircut! She ruined my hair by using a feather razor to cut my hair. She didn't even wet my hair... it was completely dry!!! I am so furious! She took off a lot too... maybe 3 inches instead of a trim (I didn't have lots of dead hair either as I keep it natural) and she just kept razoring away. My long natural silky hair now feels like I have split ends (worse than before I got it cut by her). She probably realized that I wasn't happy and she kept saying "your hair is dry"... I was confused because before she started razoring she complimented my hair on how healthy and silky it was! I'm so disappointed! I told her I didn't like the razor but she said it gave more volume! I don't care about volume! I told her that razoring makes MY hair feel thin and it's like I have split ends for days! But she continued doing it and said it would look nice! It was too late. I'm so incredibely disappointed... never going here again. Idk why this place has 5 stars. The price maybe and she's nice? But she starts cutting before she assesses your hair and what you want. This is a great place to get your hair cut--especially if you're a student at William & Mary. It's close to campus, and the quality of the cut is insanely good, especially when considering it's only $13. The lady really cares about how your hair looks, and is one of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met. She is REALLY good at cutting hair, and knows what exactly what she's doing. She just opened the business, so not many people know that it's here! She also has two adorable dogs that customers can play with. I came for just a bang trim on the basis of pretty much all 5 star review. I asked for just a TRIM. I offered her a picture, but she didn't seem interested. She immediately implied that my bangs had been cut all wrong. I was interested in understanding her better and for her to get them right, but the language barrier coupled with her indignation at my even asking a question prevented that from happening. I had no problem with what she might have been doing, but the way she started cutting seemed completely different than what I had asked for (I asked for them not to to be too short or thin). I kept talking with her in order to better to clarify what I wanted, but she shut me down. She said that she was the one with the scissors, that it was too hard for me to understand, and that there was a thing called TRUST. She said that they were thick and should be thin. Seeing as that I did not want thin bangs as someone with wavy hair, I told her that I did not want them too thin. She immediately just said "I'm done," walked away, and left me sitting in the chair. My hair is just that. UNDONE. UNFINISHED. The hairs are completely different lengths. Some are thinned out and others are not. Only pushing it to that side makes it presentable. The experience was surreal. Never have I been this shocked about a hair cut. Never has a hair cut been truly unpresentable. It was literally unfinished, and she let me walk out like this and pay her. She didn't even ask me if I liked it or not. I am not implying that she does not know how to cut hair. She certainly does, but she did not care to give me what I wanted, or even help me understand why she might not be able to. I noticed that she did not reply to the one other bad review. I hope she makes good on this. I'm a college student and cannot waste even 10 dollars and what she thought was a laughable tip (10%) for something as bad as this. read more

Warning: do NOT come here for color. I'm not one to leave reviews, but my experience was so bad, I felt the need to warn others before trusting Kee with coloring your hair. I came in for an ombré and had my hair completely ruined. The color was nowhere near the cool, ashy blonde color I wanted and was more of a shocking platinum blonde. Kee assured me it would turn out fine. She also wanted to add highlights which I stopped her from doing after noticing the damaged state of my hair. I ended up going to another salon to TRY to get it fixed, and the hair dresser told me my hair was severely over-processed. Long story short, I ended up having to chop off all my hair over how damaged it was. It was literally snapping off. Worst of all, when it came to pay, Kee tried charging me for services she didn't even do (e.g., the highlights). At the end of the day, I ended up extremely overpaying for what ended up ruining my hair. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. read more
