I answered an ad Owen had on Facebook for his business B&H Welding out of Muskogee Okla. He builds…read morecustom commercial awnings. I told him what I needed and how I wanted them done. There were 7 awnings in total. He gave me a bid for $4,666.66 to build them and install them on my building. He said he would have them all completed in 3-4 weeks and installed on the building. I told him to make it for 60 days just in case he needed a little more time. He included the 60 day due date in the contract. He sent me the contract, and he wanted $2k down in cash for material sent to him via "Cash app". I hired Owen on 5/3/23 to build the awnings and sent him $2k in cash as requested. On 7/27/23 he texted me from his phone and requested an additional $406.66 to help pay for materials to cover the outside of the awnings with sheet metal. Also, at this point he is almost 30 days past his job completion date. I told him I had already paid for the materials up front with the $2k on 5/23/23. He explained that his material guy screwed him over and he needs the extra money to get the last of the materials needed to finish the job. He said once the material comes in, he will pick it up and come install the awnings on my building ASAP. I sent him the extra $406.66 and he confirmed he got it. He said he would find out when the last bit of material would be delivered and let me know when he was coming to install the awnings. Owen never called or messaged me back. Finally on 8/29/23 "30 days later" I called Owen again and he said the material came in and it was next on the list to be cut to size and the material will be ready by the end of the week. I didn't receive any call back from Owen, so I called again on 9/7/23 to inquire on any possible progress. He said the material is cut and ready to install and he will be there at the building early on 9/22/23 to finish the job. He called me on 9/19/23 and told me he had some bad news. His welding rig had broke down and he is without transportation. Furthermore, He called the parts house and they didn't have his part in stock and they didn't know if they were ever going to be able to get it. He said he can't bring my awnings because he has to have the welder on his truck to be able to use the generator so he can power his electric drill to make the holes for the masonry anchors used to bolt the awnings to my building. I told him to rent a pick up for 1 day and load the awnings on his trailer and bring the awnings. I have electric at my building, he doesn't need a generator to make power for his hand drill. He said that was fine and he would be there to install them and finish the job on 9/27/23. I messaged Owen on 9/26/23 to make sure he was still coming on the 27th. He said yes and asked for the address again and I gave it to him. That's the moment that he caved in! He told me on the phone that he hadn't purchased any extra material and that the awning frames were complete minus the sheet metal to cover them. He said he would deliver the awnings to my building along with whatever material he had for them. He said that since he never actually paid for the extra material that he had me pay him for, that he would give me back the $406.66 extra cash I sent him when he brings the awning frames. He was supposed to meet me today 9/29/23 to deliver my 7 awnings at 10 am. I got to the building at 9 am. There were 6 awnings dumped off in my parking lot when I got there with NO material. One awning frame was missing and the rest were just a few pieces welded in a couple of spots not completed at all... They were all badly rusted and bent up as well. I took a lot of pictures. I never received any of the $406.66 either. I talked to an attorney this morning and handed over all the texts and contracts from Owen at B&H Welding. I will be seeing him again it looks like. This all went on for almost 6 months... Remember folks.... Buyer BEWARE !!!!
