We lost our water service late last night. We have well water and Lukas seems like one of the few plumbing service that's totally knowledgeable about how to identify a problem with well pumps etc. I called them this morning and they were out in a few hours. Then immediately identified the problem, explained to us what the problem was and preceded to fix it. It's such a relief to have a real professional outfit to handle a problem like this. I've had Lukas come out probably at least four times. And all four times we received excellent service, their friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend them. technician 1 came out to troubleshoot a slow shower drain and toilet cloggage in the same bathroom. Instead of snaking the toilet away from the toilet either from the toilet itself or the clean out underneath it, he chose to snake the toilet via a front yard clean out, Snaking towards the house And subject bathroom. He claimed to clear the blockage but never checked the shower. He offered no photographs or video during the visit. The charge was $418, and on the invoice/receipt it said "sneak outs are guaranteed for 30 days." Within 30 days, the toilet clogged again and the shower drain was still slow. A second tech came out and accessed the obvious clean out underneath the toilet and shower and discovered a sheer break in the main drain and noted some problematic drainage plumbing for the shower. he claimed to have augured through the cloggage In the main drain, at approximately 15 lateral feet from the shower and toilet. The clogged area was approximately 60 feet from the front yard clean out. He advised to call the office for an estimate regarding the sheer break as well as the shower plumbing. He provided no photographs or video and the charge was $580. Joe the owner was contacted afterwards but could provide no particulars about the sheer break, the displacement of the break, whether it resulted in a step down or a step up towards the front yard clean out, etc. He admitted that tech 1 was much less senior than 2 and could not explain why 1 did not try to clear the toilet and/or the shower from underneath those appliances, Or why 1 did not check the shower drainage after he did his snaking. He further admitted that had 1 done what 2 did, 1 would have seen this sheer break and would have presumably Effectively Snaked the clog. Nonetheless, Joe would not refund 1's charge Pursuant to the 30 day snake out guarantee, Or for any other reason. Instead, he said that if his company did further work at the location, there would be a credit for 1's charge. He said he would talk to 2 as to the particulars of the sheer break And said to call back. A week later Joe was called about those particulars and rudely asked why the questions were being asked, As if he couldn't be bothered. Joe was reminded as to the obvious reasons for the questions but did not want to answer. He then rudely provided some information. It was shocking to endure Joe's attitude towards a customer who had already paid almost $1000 and still had plumbing issues to be rectified. It was also shocking that Lucas did not honor their snake out guarantee, when said snake out was clearly ineffective. Upon what 2 diagnosed on his visit, the 86 year old customer should have been refunded the fee resulting from 1's visit. Instead, it was clear that Lucas placed much higher priority on trying to go back to the property for more money. Lastly, at this point in plumbing the gold standard is to provide visuals for the customers, whether still or video, so the customer does not have to rely on Or struggle to comprehend what the plumber is saying. read more

I tried Lucas for the first time for a dishwasher install. Used another plumber previously for a water heater, but didn't want to have to patch holes in my wall again. The plumber was scheduled between 9-10 and they arrived around 9:10. Prompt service, respectful employees and reasonable pricing. Called Lucas Plumbing to come out for a few small jobs in our house - they scheduled me for the next day. I was told they would come prepared with shoe coverings and most importantly - masks. When they arrived, they both had useless cloth masks around their necks and one did not have shoe coverings. I first gave him shoe coverings and he looks at them with an attitude, saying "they're not going to fit". Then I asked him about masking up. The one did, the one with the attitude reluctantly did as well, but only putting it half on. I was getting a really strong d***khead vibe off this guy right off the bat. I went and got two disposable medical grade masks and told them to use them rather than what they were wearing. The man rolls his eyes, shakes his head and asks "Do I really have to?". I pointed out that I CLEARLY had two small children in the immediate area he could visibly see - one being a newborn - and we'd like to take precautions. He snaps back "I have asthma", to which I reply "All the more reason to wear one, then." At this point he saunters over to me like I'm asking him to suit-up in a clown outfit and dance for me - I say: "You know what? Leave. Get the f*** out of here." He huffs and saunters out like "your loss". The complete lack of respect when entering someone else's home is absolutely astounding. We recently called Lucas to fix a leak in our fridge water line. Never thought I'd have to call them 2 days later for emergency service. But yeah, our water heater decided to implode at 5 pm today, leaving us without hot water. With kids to wash, dishes to do and laundry to run, this was not good news. Two hours later Lucas was in there removing the old unit and installing the new one. By 930 pm we were all set. They literally left the competition in the dust. Companies that I called at 5pm still hadn't returned my calls just as Lucas was wrapping up. Pricing wasnt cheap, but it was fair, and the speed at which they did everything was impressive. They say good things are worth waiting for. Perhaps that wise person had plumbers in mind when he wrote this. Perhaps, not. But, even with waiting a long time past the original window promised by the scheduler, ultimately, it was the quality of the work that counted most in the service industry. Lucas had arranged with me to have someone at the house to fix a broken toilet between 8 and 10. There was no way to know in advance that a one hour job would become a four hour slog. They were courteous enough to call me twice to alert me to the circumstances, and offer to reschedule for next week. The thought of going through the long weekend down a flusher with guests in the house was an unpleasant image. I opted to wait it out. Brandon arrived with apologies and explanations, and a positive demeanor. He got right to work diagnosing the problem and prescribing the cure. He had the necessary parts, and even had to change one when the first did not satisfy him. Soup to nuts, he was finished in just under an hour. He had to replace all the parts inside the tank to make the system work properly. Plumbers aren't cheap. This job came in just under two bills. But, after I tried and failed to fix the problem last week, I considered the money well spent. I've seen their red trucks all over town and decided to give them a call the morning after discovering the cold pipe to our hot water heater was leaking pretty badly. A friendly voice answered the phone at 7:30am and said they could send somebody right over. (They also said on their after-hours vmail that they'll return emergency phone calls 24/7 within 20 minutes - WOW!) Ours wasn't a true emergency since I was able to shut the water off further upstream to stop the leaking. Alex, the tech from Lucas was on site by 8am and sized up the situation. He was very friendly, very informative, neat and quick to work. We both knew our old water heater was 21+ years old and I suspected it had finally met its demise, but Alex from Lucas Ltd assured me they don't try to sell unnecessary parts when not needed. He suggested trying to fix the leaking valve first and sweated a new valve in place and refilled the tank. Unfortunately, as I feared, the tank had indeed failed and continued to leak. By noon he had a brand new (and larger! w00t!) tank installed and humming along perfectly. There was absolutely no sign that he was there - no mess, no footprints, no water - he left the area absolutely pristine, the heater looks like it has always been there and the new joins and valves look super clean with no bubblegum welds. We were charged $650 to replace a garbage disposal. Amazon's price and other sellers charge around $300 for the disposal we got. Labor then would be $350 for an hour's work on the disposal. There were no complications. It was not a weekend, after hours or a holiday. Other work done in the house was a separate charge. Receptionists and plumber were nice. The owner was not. Reasonable requests on our part were not received well. He said it was his flat rate that he charges for this disposal and his plumber. He refused a breakdown of the bill. TheBad: If you are looking for things like updating your bathroom or getting toilets or faucets installed I would schedule the work with another plumbing company. They are at very expensive with their job pricing and on top of that will nickel and dime the heck out of you. I live just down the road from Lucas in Newtown, so I've use them a number of times. Simple jobs, and their work has been fine. Courteous efficient office staff and prompt work.. More recently, I had a devil of a problem. A cake of soap really gummed up my old toilet. I probably worsened the situation with a plunger before calling Lucas. The soap could only be removed in sticky segments. The initial service got the toilet up and running, but I had to ask for for additional work two weeks later when it began acting up again. Jorge (a different plumber) was particularly diligient and a bit o a plumbing detective regarding how this could have happened. A few weeks later, still works great. I called Lucas on Sunday 25, 2017 because I had low water pressure and I thought no hot water. Steve was in my home for an hour and a half to find out what the problem was. It was found that I had a well problem and I subsequently called my well company to fix the problem. Steve had to rewrap my hot water heater with insulation, but did no repairs other than that. He charged me $390.00 for the above service. I checked the charge with a friend in the business and was told that I paid TWICE the amount which should have been charged. I was given a yellow carbon copy of the bill which was illegible because of the hand writing. I called the owner, Joseph Lucas, explained that I could not read the bill and requested a legible itemized bill with what was done and the charge for each service provided. He was unable to do that and refused to comply with my request. I am a VERY long time customer, but now would NEVER recommend this company to others. They practice OUTRAGEOUS overcharging as has been described by others on this site! Don't be robbed, stay away! There are plenty of good and honest Plumbers locally. read more

Unprofessional company. Contacted Lucas to come out and fix our toilet, they told us they could squeeze us in the next day. I said I was unsure, but to book us anyway and we would call them back if we did not need them. The woman on the phone assured us we had that time slot and said we would see them the next day. After they never showed up, we called them and asked them what the issue was. They said that we told them we were fixing the problem ourselves. We never told the woman on the phone that, and you would think they would be more understanding and offer up a remedy to make up for the miscommunication on their end. When we told the associate on the phone that wasn't the case, he said he wasn't coming and we didn't have an appointment. He did not attempt to resolve this issue or was even TRYING to be accomodating. He was extremely rude and unprofessional. You lost a customer who was willing to pay whatever(including your sky high prices) for this job and I told the woman on the phone we were going to inquire with the man who was supposed to come, for a remodel in our bathroom. Ridiculous. Small pinhole pipe repair.. I asked them to replace three valves in the same area. A very small amount of pipe, three ball valves, and a few Ts and 90 deg elbows. $124 for the parts that at a local home store would have cost $35. labor, 2 man hours, 2 guys to replace the pipe, $370, for a calculated value of $92/hour. $500 for pipe repair and valve replacement. read more

They installed a tankless hot water heater in 2010. Last week no hot water and called them at 7:30 AM on Friday to ask if they service that appliance. They said yes and would send tech in afternoon. Tech arrived at 4 PM on Friday to say not sure why they sent him - they don't service that unit. Hard to get a hold of someone else at 4 PM on Friday - wasted a whole day. In addition, equipment manufacturer informs us that descaling needs to be done each year - Lucas never mentioned it at the installation - and part not under warranty because we don't do the yearly maintenance. I called the owner at Lucas to complain - no apology, no help. read more
