After thinking through various options, such as long term stay hotels, and renting an apartment and putting an air mattress in it, my husband suggested that I look into corporate apartments. (I.e. an apartment that is fully furnished with all utilities included.) For the record corporate apartments are few and far between in this area. One company I spoke with wanted 4000 a month which is still less than staying in a hotel, but no less expensive than staying in the Marriott Residence Inn, which has a kitchenette in it. I found Big Sky by googling corporate apartments. I immediately called the office to inquire. They had a 3 bedroom apartment available, but I only needed a 2 bedroom setup. They were willing to use the 3 bedroom and set it up for two. Yea! Staff are very friendly, both Lisa and Wanda in the office are very gracious and will answer lots of questions. And the price is exceptional! About 2400 for a three month lease, fully furnished, including linens, washer and dryer, kitchen needs, all utilities, cable, internet, and phone included! This has saved my company about $10,000 across the course of 3 months by staying in this apartment vs being in a hotel and having to reimburse for eating out expenses. As far as the apartments themselves, I really like them! And if I lived in the area I would definitely live here! the 3 bedroom has a large master bedroom, and two smaller bedrooms. It's about 1400 square feet and very spacious and well laid out. The views of the mountains are amazing. There is a pool available which is open until the end of September. There's also a small gym. Although the acoustics on the side of the mountain are very good and you can hear things far off, I personally have not had any experience with bad neighbors, yelling and screaming, or any disorderly conduct. Parking is at a premium, so be aware they do require parking stickers, and passes if anyone is staying overnight. Apartments do not have a standard lock and key. It is a key fob system, that is very unique. You tap the key on the door which gives you the ability to unlock and lock. It's nice because it's impossible to lock yourself out of the apartment. I can see how some of the apartments here might be at a disadvantage for the view the way they are built, however this 3 bedroom has two porches and two giant scenic windows on the front and faces the most fantastic mountain view. Initially I was trying to find an apartment in Harrisonburg however was very glad this one in Staunton worked out instead. The complex is conveniently located about a mile from the 81/64 split. Charlottesville is about 35 to 40 minutes to the east , Harrisonburg is about 25-30 minutes to the north, and Roanoke Virginia is about an hour and 20 minutes to the southwest. It's a great location to be able to jump on the interstate and go any of these places. Conveniently located right behind shopping, and only a few miles from the downtown area. This is also in the Shenandoah Valley area, so there's lots of beautiful drives, and hiking available! I'm a little sad that I will only be here for 3 months, as I love the mountains! but like I said earlier if I was staying here permanently this would definitely be on the top of my list of places I would consider living!

Even though they had a wait list of tenants wanting to move in, they charged us almost $3,000 for an early lease buy out. Most of our "deposit" when we moved in, was nonrefundable fees. Then because we had dogs, even though there were no stains on the carpet, they pulled the carpet up, and inspected the padding with a blue light. Because they detected that it had at some point, been peed on, they kept a large portion of what deposit we would have gotten back. They informed us that we were lucky we only had one bedroom containing carpet because if they detect that any room has had pee, they automatically replace the carpet in the entire unit. So most tenants end up owing them a couple thousand on top of loosing their deposit. Such a shame for people be taken advantage of this way. I could not recommend this place any less.

We had to beg them for one which is absurd. Because that's standard. Right? We did get one but were made to feel like a bother for asking for a door. Again. A door. 2) As others have mentioned, they will talk down to you and cut you short. If they respond at all. It's unfortunate. Not how I would treat paying tenants. Scratch that. It's not how I would treat any other human being. I think it's a big issue because they are the safety net if there is anything you ever need. But if they are not there for you, then you have no safety net. Prepare to fall. 3) We have major condensation leaking from the toilet sometimes based on temperatures. We called, they sent someone and he treated us rudely. He said he wasn't going to referee toilets. Why make comments like that? I asked him if leaving toilet water everyday on the floor could hurt the floor. He said no. I'm not a plumber but I know if water just sits on a bathroom floor constantly it would eventually be a bigger repair. I felt like this was a 'duh' moment based on how floors and water work. Not to mention who wants to walk on condensation toilet water. Again. Not a plumber. But I googled it and there are ways to fix it. And if he didn't know, why be rude? I think the landlords should appreciate these sort of phone calls and at the very least be interested in water damaged floors because of long term costs. Now we are hesitant to ask about more repairs because this was something out of the twilight zone. It just went total polar opposite of how a repair man should respond. 4) We had a noise issue with a neighbor. They seemed to work on it. Anymore occurrences, They won't help with. It's a one time deal potentially. Which, again, isn't fair and not anything I've experienced before with any landlord. Fair landlords look into it and Investigates. Or mediates. Finds out if the noise is legit/continuing. If negligent behavior is affecting the quality of life for the other tenants, it is better to rid the property of the problem rather than lose other respectful tenants. Kind of like with the repair issue mentioned above, I feel most landlords would appreciate these kind of reports and be approachable to keep up the good moral because creating standards that secure the safety and care of your property and your tenants, you will further target and attract responsible tenants. The lack of care is probably why so many bad tenants do even more so what they want. Obviously. Tenants are not equal to the landlord. They shouldn't be allowed to do what they want and should have rules(the lease). Without rules enforced, it ruins the sense of needed community structure and most of all, can negatively impact the ones actually following the rules. There is more but I think what I wanna get across is they seem motivated by money and reluctant to help otherwise. It upsets me because my wife and I are adults. We can deal with the negligence of all this. Or disregard them making comments that are uncalled for. What does make it personal, is instead of lending a helping hand, trying to be more pleasant, our child has to live in this type of environment because adults can't work together. She has to step on a puddle of toilet water accidentally because the maintenance man didn't wanna do maintenance. Or stay awake late when she has to get up early because neighbors are allowed to disregard the lease and make excessive noise that unreasonably interferes with her peace and comfort. This isn't right. Point blank. Bottom line. If somehow the landlords actually listen to our distresses, and work with us, I will change this review to reflect that change because everyone deserves an extra chance. If not, then I think everyone should have reviews as guidelines as to possibly expect for their own family and healthy living.

Maintenance is good till they need to finish another day and then forget about you. Forget about your security deposit because you will never get it back. Horrible communications with leasing staff who rarely return messages and close the office on random days with no explanation. They will send out emails notifying you of inspections or pest control sweeps and either postpone or never show. Do yourself a favor and move to a different community. This place is the very definition of what was once a decent place to live but has since fallen off a cliff into the dumpster.
