So the labs and the radiology check in processed and procedures are handled very well and very professionally. They generally run on time and observe privacy. The waiting areas are clean. Now let's talk about the ER. I came in by ambulance with an intestinal blockage. They put me SITTING UP in the waiting room (which has no security and smelled like cigarette smoke and marijuana). The sitting up position caused already terribly pain to become much worse. Finally, I was taken to the ER and given a comfortable clean room. The nurses were quite professional and kind (OK, the nurses get 5 stars), so I guess I would give the ER 1 star for that. It's diverticulitis and I know this because it's happened before but they run all of the tests needed to make sure. That's fine and good. Before that the doctor has them put morphine into my IV line even though I specifically asked for no opioid pain medication. So, ended up all woozy from that and then she gives me an antibiotic called Cipro (after the tests come back) without talking to me about any of the possible side effects or anything. She prescribed me more pain killers and more Cipro and send me home. My husband got all of the prescriptions and dropped the pain killers in the bin at Walmart. The Cipro gave me terrible hives and tinnitus. So, the diverticulitis is now cleared. The hives have cleared but I'm left hearing what sounds like peeps constantly. I should have been warned. I should have asked, but I should have been warned. I won't let my guard down again. One more thing. There are safer alternatives and medical guidelines now emphasize avoiding fluoroquinolones when safer alternatives exist. I guess the doctor didn't go to that class.

July 7th he was having trouble breathing and went to the emergency room for help via the ambulance. Was there 6.5 hours. Many tests administered, no treatment for his breathing. Wanted to admit him to have his gall bladder out, we declined. Left with a list of diagnosis, again no treatment. He just had heart surgery the day before. His gall bladder was not hurting. Returned home July 8th and attempted to see his regular cardiologist, was unable, kept the appointment he had for July 10th. We called the nurses at Portsmouth and demanded Dr. Arkonac call us July 8th, she did and took no ownership for why my husband was not feeling well. He then went to the emergency room at Exeter hospital, arrived at 1:40pm and more tests, again no treatment for the breathing. At 10pm he was admitted for observation. Thursday, July 9th Dr. Goodkin, partner to Dr. Porter saw him at 10 am, administered a plan, not any surgery, and by 2:30 we were headed home. Kept the appointment with Dr. Porter for the next day out of precaution. So hours in two emergency rooms with no treatment for why he came. Dr. Derya Arkonac would not help him, he felt fine on Sunday and the day after surgery was having difficulty breathing. Both emergency rooms saw x-rays etc.. that told them he had fluid in his lungs yet did not treat him for it. Dr. Porter's office is in Exeter Hospital, yet when the emergency room couldn't help him no call was made or visit from said cardiologist office, which he is a patient of.
