Absolutely no option to reserve a time for appointment. What if other people have a habit to plan ahead. Not on a fly-by, how day going to be in the morning, or how the groomer is feeling in the morning. This is business. Please have a business approach to the customers. My westie desperately needed her nails trimmed and I booked an appointment at my vet. When they told me it would be $26 I decided to look elsewhere. I called Especially for Pets and they had me come right over. The assistant manager was very helpful and trimmed the nails himself. My westie and I both enjoyed the experience! Terrible customer service...unfriendly and rude. 1st Changed my dogs grooming appointment the night before from 10am to 2pm...wasn't happy about that. 2nd The groomer commented on how much "hair" my dog had....he's a Cotton Du Tulear...they have a lot of hair, that's the breed and this was why I was here, to get him groomed. 3rd She said he was "very matted" and it would take her a long time to comb it out. He was matted around his collar where his harness is worn... not as bad as she made it out to be... she literally did not want to do her job. 4th. She suggested that she would have to "shave his whole coat" and proceeded to show me a picture of the same breed, from her iPhone and said that this is how short it would have to be...the dog looked completely bald..I left with my puppy ungroomed and shall never return. read more

We have been to a half-dozen Loyal Companion locations in the metro west area, but the Acton one has the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff of the bunch. Great job on clipping the nails on our nervous Chihuahuas and the groomer lady was caring and careful. The people at check out were upbeat and helpful. Other staff guided us to sensible purchases (neither the most expensive the least). We now prefer to come to this location rather than the one closer to our house. read more

Can I give this place no stars? The Acton store has the rudest staff and I will not go back. I went to the counter to purchase my items and the cashier ignored me. The other woman (Mocha's owner?) was sitting at the window and ignored me too! Another customer came over and Mocha's owner immediately said, "Can I help you"? Am I invisible? I told the cashier that I wanted to purchase my items. She said there was another customer ahead of me - where? Well she said, she is still shopping. The cashier finally took my two items and rang them up without any apology for ignoring me, the customer; no thank-you, no good-bye, no happy holiday. This is not the first time I have had a bad experience there. About a year ago I had an appointment to have my dog groomed. When I saw the state of the grooming area and the foul smell I immediately refused to have them touch my dog. The Wayland store is totally opposite to the Acton store. I really like Acton. Driving through it, I found this pet store which is a chain with about 5/6 other stores mainly in the Boston area. The selection here is great and the prices are pretty good - cheapest place I've found Solid Gold at $7.50 for a 5 lb bag! I also found organic toys for my dog... ridiculous? Yes. Cute? Definitely. Unnecessary? Ask my boyfriend. I ran into a few other very friendly customers, also spoiling their pets (one who talked me into buying aforementioned organic toy. Turns out every dog needs at least one.) They also offer obedience training, which seem fairly popular. read more

This place is really nice. The staff is friendly and helpful and pets are welcome. They have a wide variety of dry and wet foods for cats and dogs including organic foods! We were able to call them too and ask about where we could get one of our cats shaved they were able to point us to another of their stores. Our Maine Coon got a lion cut and was happy as a clam. The Staff at Loyal Companion is outstanding. I went there and asked for advice on switching dog food. The Store Manager Kim explained several brands that would work well for my Golden Retrievers. I ended up with Fromm Lamb Recipe. My dogs are thriving. Each time I go in the store the staff members take the time to answer my questions and they truly care giving great service. This is where I do most of my shopping for my two pooches. Most of the staff is nice, and I appreciate that they give me room to look around on my own with out harping over me. Really expensive. Wanted $50 for a KMart-grade plastic cat hammock. 50% of the stock is dog chewies. A little weird. Tried to buy a dog crate there once. Needed a larger size than was on display. Was ready to just get the item down from the high shelf, pay and go. Took time to get rude teenage cashier off the phone. When I explained what I wanted, she said, "but ... it's up on that shelf..." Took an absurd amount of time to get her to actually ask the person in the stock room to come out and help us get the crate down. Absolutely annoyed to be forced to take my money. Very put-upon for not being allowed to talk to her friend on the phone. And this was a-OK with the manager, too. Awful. read more

The price for each bag, especially with the rewards card, is slightly cheaper than the store I used to shop at in Somerville (which I thought was very reasonably priced). I've been shopping at this store since they opened, many years ago. The staff at the register come and go -- some are great, some not so much. The owner is terrific and when she's in, she's very hands on and helpful. The staff who are good are excellent and the staff who aren't so great are pretty bad. The products are very reasonably priced and the selection of high quality dog and cat foods is about the best you'll find anywhere. Just spoke with Matt -- very nice - came up with suggestions on where to get a cat groomed - I guess our cat pets pose some trying moments for groomers. If there is a hurricane coming and you're desperate for an item you might want to shop here...and only then. Items cost about twice what they would at other pet stores. There really was a hurricane coming, we really needed an item, and didn't feel like driving to Chelmsford to the PetSmart. That was a mistake. We paid $22 for an item that costs us half that at PetSmart. I called the Especially for Pets where we had bought the item, thinking it must have been mis-priced. Silly me. So iv been to this store a few times and i must say i am not impressed at ALL. The prices are way to high, from what i hear the staff changes all the time (which tells me the owner isnt a good one otherwise he would treat his employees better) and the staff is either rude or talks your ear off. They really dont seem to know what they are talking about there. The managers dog interacts more with you then she does herself which is totally unprofessional. I nor my friends will never go there again,the sudbury store is much better,maybe the owner needs to work on the acton store a bit, from what im seeing all the negative comments are the same and i guess nothings getting done about it because its still the same service ..HORRIBLE. I have been taking my german shepherd to especially for pets for his grooming. He loves the place as I do. the staff is wonderful and very helpful. he groomers are so nice and friendly and care about my dog. people who write bad reviews I feel want the world to cater to them and this place does all it can to provide for your pets. I am very very fussy about my dog and how he looks and after the grooming he gets he looks wonderful and I never have a complaint. For years we searched for a groomer we were consistently happy with, and this is THE place! The services are well performed, and we were especially impressed as to how the fur artist bent over backwards on our first visit to make certain we were all on the same page before the haircuts were done. I love that the grooming area is relatively small and calm compared to many. My dogs are definitely less stressed there than with previous groomers. The store itself does have some interesting things that the large chains don't offer. Here and there I find they sometimes get in special items made somewhat locally of quality far exceeding what you would normally expect, such as the best "long johns" for warmth I've ever seen (very well designed and wear like steel) and once a washable fleece dog mat/ bed that has lasted forever. Prices on pet food are typical to a little pricey, but they do have lots of special treat items that make terrific gifts. read more
